I play bass for this high school music director when she puts on her yearly spring musical. Her students give her music from itunes that they want to sing in the musical and sometimes she can't find the piano/guitar/bass sheet music to play along with the style that is on the itunes. Well, me being a BB user, I told her that I would use BB's audio cord wizard to figure out the cords needed for the songs that she needed music for. She gave me 5 titles and a cd with all 5 songs on them. I did my thing in BB, printed them out, and gave them to her to edit. She was very impressed with the software and now wants to buy BB so she can do the same thing. Cutos for BB.
Question: Is the Auto Cord Wizard in BB the only software out there that will do this, and if not, is it the best, for this function only? The reason why I'm asking this is because she just wants to do that function only. If there are other pieces of software that will do this, what are they called and how much would she expect to pay for it? For first time buyers BB is $139 for pro and $199 for Megapak. She is on a tight budget, being a shool teacher and such. Thanks for your help in advance.

It seems to me that if she is a MUSIC DIRECTOR she could probably figure out more uses for BIAB than just using ACW... maybe you could direct her to the PG Music web site and let her read a little about the product. If she doesn't end up salivating over the musical possibilities, then she might be in the wrong profession.

I took my little bb everything box over to her house, demoed the ACW, and now she will purchase the product. I also showed her a few more functions of BB which impressed her greatly. Happy ending.

I agree with Pat. Like all of us, once she starts playing with BIAB, she's going to see endless possibilities; much more than simply using the ACW.

"Chord"

I hope this music teacher knows there is an 'h' in there...

Use the Audio Cord by tying it around your boxes of Audio Equipment to hold them together.

*smirk*

Just another of my musical pet peeves.

Others favorites in this genre include,

"Base Clef" -- Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

"Treble Cleft" -- Who cleaved it, and more importantly, why?

"Sound Interface" -- Um, *hardware* is NOT an interface!

"What's the best?" -- Best for *what*?

"The Staffs" -- Er, the plural is "Staves"...

"Volume Slider" -- Now we're back in the baseball park. Or do you mean, "Fader?"

"midi" -- It is not a word, it is an abbreviation, for "Musical Instrument Digital Interface" and therefore should be caps. MIDI

"Vocal Chords" -- This guy can apparently sing harmonies with himself, no machine required.

"Can I apply a Retard at a bar?" -- Why would you want to affix a mentally retarded person to a bar of music? Ritard. As in Ritardondodo!

I've collected a million of 'em, but you'll havta wait and buy the book...

Ritardondodo!

In keeping with the spirit of the subject, I presume this was a completely intentional mangling of ritardando.

Of course, as appears to be the case with much musical notation and convention these days, the Dodo Bird has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century.

Mac, & the rest.
So I can't spell Chord, I spell as I talk, "cord" and I'm to old to change! If you want me to change the way I spell things, put a spell check on the forum! It doesn't matter how I spelled it, I sold her on BB and she bought a copy. By the way, she is a very good music director and she will discover how powerful it is and the help it will be to her.
Boy, are you guys a tough crowd or what?

Our bark is way worse than our bite, and we usually bark pretty softly. We don't curse here, we don't flame people (well, not much), we discuss, debate, we help each other (even with the obvious stuff - we were all newbies once), we support each other, we pray for folks that are hurting, and sometimes we hit a raw nerve (usually unintentionally - something about the absence of body language in a text posting), we even apologize on occasion. But it's all in the familial nature of the folks on this forum.

I hope your music teacher comes to the forum and posts questions. We are always happy to help.

I don't use smileys much when I make jokes.

I think that the reader should be able to decipher a bit of humor and wit from the writing itself.

Sometimes I fail, sometimes I make a hit.

So sue me.

I'm a retardondodo.

First of all, you should not put down that which you do not know. The music director in question is not my music teacher, she is a music director. She had nothing to do with my spelling of "Cord", Chord for Mac. Second, I am the one who made the mistake, she knows nothing about it. I simply was stating in plain words, that BB is a great program and it sells itself. By the way, I enjoy reading these posts and helping out when I can, but I never, never put anyone down or in their place because of the way they spell things. Believe me, I've seen a lot of post with tons of mis-spelled words. I've been a member since rev 06.

So who put you down?

Look, if you spell 'em like you say 'em, why didn't you spell it, "Kord" then?

See, now that was a put down.

I already explained that it was all in jest, man.

Take it light,

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
