Hi fellow musicians, After the nice comments I received lately in this forum on my song Maybe, I thought I had to raise my bar a little with this song called Change The Road. The song is dealing with the way we live our lives (generally spoken). I did something I normally don't do; talking in a song. But somewhat later I start singing. So don't get worried too much ;-) It felt a bit uncomfortable to make a song like this. Not because of the language, but more because of the talking in that language in a song. Although I hesitated for some time, I knew I had to make it. It's my mind that demanded this from me. So now it's up to you if, and how much, I will regret this... It's mainly a song made in BiaB Style: Breath, tempo 90, setting Am Bas: 1759 Piano: 2870 Drums: NashvilleEven Guitar: 1814 Ac, FP Violin: 2337 El. gutar: 833 Solo: 3321 Guitar, ac. And in the DAW I used a synth from Native instruments: Reactor Blocks, All four The voice(s): Me Thanks in advance, Hans https://soundcloud.com/user-296497130/change-the-road

I think your combination of recitation & singing came across quite nicely... All the parts seemed to fit very well... I enjoyed listening to it.

Nice work on this, Hans Nicely catchy, and the instrumentation sounds really full and lush. It may have been outside your comfort range but I think you nailed it. You should be proud - thanks for sharing!
Cheers, Deryk

Thanks all for your reviews. I'm flattered. Like Derryk said, this song was a bit out of my comfortzone, although I liked it the more I worked on it. Not my younger son. He disliked that talking (but he normally dislike my songs) Is this talking generally called 'recitation', as Jim said? I thought the whole song is called that way.
So I am relieved by your compliments, thanks for that, Hans

Well thanks Torrey!
I'm pleased to read that, because -as I wrote- I never before spoke in my songs. So in a way it was a try-out. But it turned out good, so to hear.
Nice day, Hans

Hello Hans,
Nice to "Meet" you. Torrey pretty much said what I was thinking. And yes, spoken words in a song with sung lyrics is called recitation. An entire song with a spoken lyric are called, in English, "Spoken Word".
Loved the variation in the instruments. Enjoyed the song and the message. best to you ...
Alan

I think the talking works well as it helps the tune to build and leads into the song perfectly. I enjoyed listening to the varied and well balance parts, right to the end with that great synth sound just fading... Very well done.
It's only my madness that stops me from going insane.

Hi Alan and mr Jones,
Like to learn technical terms in another language. Thanks for that. Also thanks for your compliments. And it's nice to meet you too, althought I prefer a good talk together and enjoying a good glas of wine. But that will be a little problem concerning our distance. but who knows?
And mr Jones; let your madness don't prefend you to make nice songs!
Hans

I think the mix of spoken word and singing works well here. I like your instrumentation tracks.

Thanks very much, Scott. This song took me some time for the different layers to match with what I had in mind. And beside the backtrack and the drums, especially the spoken words. You probably don't know how many times I had to record that part. Not only the pronunciation, but I had to change the words many times before they fit and got the right message.

Nicely done Hans!! I think the way you put it together works very well! Vocal processing reminded me a bit of John Lennon. A well done and interesting song!! Take care. Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
