Same song for the same project I posted a few months back, but with a different singer (this one from Nigeria), a different arrangement (Funkier rhythm section and not-as-thick band), and a different take from my Spanish Sax player.

All real tracks save the Saxophone, but I've misplaced the .sgu for this "version".

CLOUDY DAY

V1 Cloudy day...Relax, the wind will blow the dust away
The wet will come , won't let the tourists play
Cloudy day, cloudy day.

V2 Cloudy day...A steady splash makes such a fine display
A farmer needs it, did some good to pray
Cloudy day, cloudy day

C1 Soon the sky will rumble
And the rain will come
Then the dry will tumble
It's time that we got some.

V3 Cloudy day...Papaya tree will surely bend and sway
Come sit beside me and we'll be okay
Cloudy day, cloudy day.

V4 Cloudy day...It's good the clouds will keep the heat at bay
but things will warm up when you look my way
Cloudy day, cloudy day

C2 Soon the sky will rumble
And the rain will come
Then the dry will tumble
It's time that we got some.

Bridge: (bar 53)
If there's a big clap of thunder, under the sheets we'll hide
moving...so if the kid comes in scared she won't think we have died

Instrumental verses and chorus V5, V6, C3

C4 Soon the sky will rumble
And the rain will come
Then the dry will tumble
It's time we were gettin' some.

V7 Cloudy day...It holds the prospect we'll be washed away
but brings the promise of a greener May
Cloudy day, cloudy day.

Here's a link to the "original" version if anyone is interested.

I remember this one. Very good song!

I had a listen to the new version and also the original to refresh my memory. Not sure which I prefer, they are both very good but very different "feel" wise.

I did not "go back to the original" - so as to not "make comparisons"...just wanted to take in the new version...

Love the funkiness of it! And your new singer fits that nicely.

It's a "big, happy sounding song" like a don't-worry-be-happy thing. An enjoyable listen. Everything works. Your sax guy did a great job!

It would be nice to have a big sing-along chorus group towards the end joining in on the "cloudy day"s (and clapping, maybe?)...

It is quite catchy. I'm still singing it in my head...

Nicely done! I enjoyed this rendition, and agree with Dave in that I really can't determine which is better since they just have different vibes to them. This version is definitely formidable - very warm to listen to, and attention grabbing from the get go.

Great work and thanks for sharing smile

Oh yeah, this is a genuine feel good sound. The finale floyd mentioned would be cool indeed.

Your hired hands did a good job smile

We listened to both. If we have to pick I suppose we'd go with the
funkier version but we like the way the singer in the first version holds his notes.

Bottom line is these are both excellent productions and it's fun to compare them.

A great song, a fabulous groove and a simply outstanding vocal - so relaxed, so full of expression.

Missed the original and loved this so much that I didn't want to "cloud" things by going back.

Oh, and a super-funky sax as well.

Great stuff guys.

The guest vocalist has some sweet phrasing - really suits the happy-go-lucky feel of the song... which is very good.
Nice sax too. Hard to pick a preference - vocals on this one vs funky backing on `tother.
Where are you finding your fine collaborators?

Thanks, Dave. I didn't really post the link to the "first" version for "comparison", but I'm pleased you took the time. I like them both, too. It was just a matter of what fit best.

Floyd, I passed on your suggestion to the "Producer" of the play. He laughed. NOT because he thought it was a bad idea. We both love the idea. NOT because it would be difficult to pull-off, though it might be. He laughed because he "envisioned" a live hand-clapping choir appearing at this moment of the play. It could really be funny. It is a comedy, after all. Hearing his interpretation pretty much cracked me up too. Thanks. I can't afford a Fiverr choir, but...who knows.

Thanks, Deryk. I guess we succeeded then.

Thanks, Janice and Bud. Those are pretty much my thoughts too--at least today.

Thanks, ROG. We had to work a bit on pronunciation, but I like the quality of his voice and his modern phrasing.

Robert, if I were to play with this again, I'd give him a more hip-hop backing, though I don't really know how to do it full-on. Both my singers and the sax player were found on fiverr.com

Thanks, TuneMonger.

Hi Tangmo,

listened to both versions, because I didn't know the 'old' one. Well, no doubt about that: They're both remarkably good, and once again it shows what a difference a singer can make.

I really dig your voice and singing a lot (think I mentiones that before), so I like the first version a bit better. Which doesn't mean that I don't like the 'new' singer - he's great, too.

The new arrangement is good, and I really, really enjoyed the sax parts.

Cheers,

Stefan

Although I like the original, this is MUCH sweeter!! This singer just feels the song a lot more! I like the arrangement/mix better too.....more lively! Everything about this works really well! Great job!!! Take care. Greg

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
