I was testing out a new overdrive pedal design for a friend that builds custom guitar effects. BIAB is great for quickly getting a variety of different musical contexts in which you can try out ideas.
You can see the bare-bones version of the pedal in the included picture (yup, no interface; just twirl knobs and go...)
The signal path is a Strat through the green pedal, into a Strymon TimeLine played through a Fender Super Reverb amp. Yes, of course the amp is miked with an SM57. Recorded and mixed in Studio One Pro on a Mac. There are about 8 different guitar parts, some doubled, but all played through different settings with that same pedal. Extra delays and reverb added in Studio One with some Waves plugins.

First of all, I am in awe of any musician who has taken the time, and applied the discipline necessary to learn how to play an instrument well. I liken the effort to learning how to speak, only through another, different voice.
Listening to Green Dragon was a 'higher ground' kind of experience for me, mostly because of the way you changed the voice of your electric guitar via the effects available through the overdrive pedal. The music has what was called a 'trippy sound' back in the 60's, not way-way-out in your case, but more mellow and serene, even. It was as though you were traveling through different realms of your musical soul. It's a sweet sound, too, suitable for the expression of romantic feelings. Your fluidity of musical expression through your instrument caused me to feel as though you were listening closely to what your guitar was saying to you...
The Real Tracks were the ideal accompaniment for the journey you took me on. I listened to it four times and heard something subtly, not overtly, different in it on each rewind.

Hi Ray Very listenable. A bit of a 'wander' through feelings and tones but of course that is the purpose of a Demo. Sounds like a quality class pedal. Ian

That's an expensive signal chain! You show off the pedal's versatility in a way that only excellent chops can/will do. What stands out most, however, is the very tidy mix. COOOL

Great job. I love the tone, and melodic choices you made. You also hit the rhythms with feeling. Gotta love that. Overall, I'm a big fan of atmospheric guitar tracks. There is something a little reminiscent of Vai's work in this for me.

TEMPO TANTRUM: What a lead singer has when they can't stay in time.
I agree with all those before me... this is really pleasant listening. You have a terrific tone and your sense of melody is excellent. I was engaged from start to end.
From the And Now For Something Completely Different Department, I can't post the link here because it's a cover version, but if you go to my SoundCloud page and find "Au Private" in the Tracks section, that's another example of a guitar song made with BIAB.
It's a 1950's Charlie Parker be-bop song updated and done as a samba with one of the newest RealTracks, .CUIBABA.STY. It's at 185bpm, a nice adult tempo. ;-)
It was recorded using the BIAB VST plugin in Studio One. Extra piano parts to double the melodies are pulled from my guitar parts, extracted using Melodyne software and then assigned to a piano sound.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
