Hi there,
I have now finally got the hang of Powertracks and am LOVING it.

There are only two small things that I would like to add to the package.

1. A way to lock a track if I can consider it final. The system must now prevent me to record over it unless the "Lock" is switched off. This weekend I recorded over some perfect tracks that I thought I would never get as perfect again and those take are now "lost"

2. Some way to show that I am in fact recording. Maybe some Flashing Icon somewhere (so that even my wife can see I am in the middle of a recording and must not TALK!). I have played my heart out a couple of time and got the take perfect but found that I have not hit "Record"

Once again, I want to congratulate PG for a way to let amateurs like myself live their dreams of doing home recordings that many does not believe was made at home .....

If you look in the Power Tracks Folder you should find a back up folder

For example I have PT in G:\pt and mine is:

G:\pt\PTBackup

Here you will find back up copies of your projects. Depending on your backup setting you may have an older copy of your project that can be renamed and saved.

I like this idea. I have inadvertently selected the wrong track before and lost what was there. It would be nice to just right click and select "lock" (or "unlock" if it's already locked and you decide you want to make some changes). A little padlock icon would visually let you know the status.

I also like the idea of a "Recording" indicator. I have also inadvertently hit the "play" button, instead of record. Thought I was recording until I played it back. Stuff happens.

I like the idea also. Recording indicator should be a setting available in options - enable it to not show. Perhaps you are recording and your screen is visible from the audience. Very distracting to have a "Recording...." flashing on the screen.

Heck, make an enable to show even if you're NOT recording!! Even better... For times when listening is critical and you don't want to hear "...honey, can you get the mail..." or "...I just love this new hair conditioner..."

I usually just turn on the vertical VU meters,
and stretch them out nice and tall to make them more "visible".

To sort out the family I now have a bedside lamp with a red-light and a foot switch to tell THEM I am recording and please not to interrupt. Still does not help with hitting record though!

The VU meters does not do the trick for me as I rehearse the song first and check out and adjust the levels before I start recording. Then I STILL manage to not hit RECORD when I do my most brilliant performance EVER not missing a note on the Sax or a word... In fact when I play it perfectly through I sort of suspect immediately that I most likely have not pressed record! Murphy Alert!!!!!

If you record over a track, you can open the backup file, select the old (good) track and use 'track-save track to file' command.
Then open your new seq file and use 'audio- import wav file' to bring the good track back into the new project.

To open the backup files you would use the 'FILE' pulldown, then load backup.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

If you don't see the recording countdown, you didn't hit record. That's pretty simple to me. It happens to me too when I'm rehearsing a track and then want to do a take, I forget to hit the record button but I know it immediately unless I don't look at the screen but if you don't look, then no visual is going to help you anyway.
I completely agree with having a lock button though. Or, at least a "There's audio already on this track, are you sure?" box. As it is, I've been trained the hard way to make sure I'm recording on a blank track.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
