Here's a fun little track that I threw together shortly after I got BIAB 2019. It's just a bit of a lark, and the vocals are a bit unsteady in parts. It's a bit of a play on the theme of the Jim Croce song "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown." I hope you enjoy it.

BIAB Song Info
Key=C , Tempo 100, Length (m:s)=3:57
Style is CLASSY.STY (Classy Easy Swing w/ Strings)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic String Bass (33), Acoustic Piano (1), Nylon String Guitar (25), Strings (49)

Don't Mess Around With Bruno

**Edit** Fixed broken link - Thanks rayc! Apologies to those who tried before.

Lyrics

Don't mess around with Bruno the hand
He'll rub you out as soon as shake your hand

He dresses well, better than your friends
He'll take your life, just like that (snap)

He knows just how to do it, he plays the game
Don't bother Bruno, please believe me

He's a man of style and grace
He'll wipe that smile off your face
Don’t touch his suit, or you'll regret it

He's gonna do, what he wants to do.
Don't mess with Bruno or his suit
No, indeed, No indeed

Don’t mess around …

Hi Ed ...

I love these laid back, just take it easy songs. I also write novels and most of them are easy and laid back, with a few exceptions.

I like your take on the Jim Croce theme. He was one of my favorite singers and composers of his era ... to bad he died so young in an airplane crash. I still have his vinyl with all those great songs on it. I really enjoyed my listen. The abrupt ending was a surprise, but as you said, it was a lark.

Best to you ...

Alan

Cool vocal and backtrack. Has an old school jazzy feel to it. Well done

I like the delivery and laid-back genre feel.

However, it's not what I would expect with the topic being a "tough guy".

For some reason, I think it would work better with this music if the main character was a woman....maybe "Brenda".

Just a suggestion to take or toss as you see fit.

Thanks for sharing.

Gotta 50's/early 60's B&W film vibe to it.

And, yeah, the Mack The Knife feel is there, indeed.

A cool little ditty!

Ed,
Unfamiliar with the song of inspiration I enjoyed your vocal and the jazzy feel.
I think that cliff drop ending gets attention for your "don`t mess around" last line-maybe that`s the intention?

Dear 'EdZ314'...

Well, now, anyone who posts a song on the forum that features a photo of my hometown's skyline has just GOTTA have a 'dope' track to listen to laugh !!!

Been a while since I listened to an all-MIDI composition on the forum, and it sounds great in a nostalgic way. Heck, that's what all of us songwriters over fifty years-old started out with, right?

Don't Mess Around With Bruno swings high, and swings low with a finger-snapping beat and a stalking bassline accompanied by a steely, tense string section that could be sound the of Bruno's edgy personality mad .

Your vocal performance is easy, relaxed, and tells Bruno's story with enough swing feel to cause him to 'make you an offer you can't refuse' to sing your song at his birthday party held at the Blackstone Hotel on Wabash and...???

Thanks, 'EdZ314' for 'all that jazz'!!!

Truly,

LOREN (a.k.a. 'bluage')

As I was critiquing this song the doorbell rang. I opened it and a dude that was dressed like he came straight out of a Dick Tracy cartoon strip said "Hi I'm Bruno, EdZ314 sent me"!

OK OK I like your song! wink

Seriously this is really good. I like the laid back jazz groove combined with the bad gangster theme. The vocal, backing tracks, and mix were spot on.

I really liked this!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Ed Z....

I like this one.
Performance and vocals are well done although I could say the backing tracks could come up a bit that's just a subjective thought.
It has that 50's crooner vibe that very appealing and easy to listen to.

Keep up the good work.

Back to it....

Liked the song, production and vox. I thought the lyrics were a little bland considering the subject matter. I was waiting for a clever payoff that never happened.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
