Hello! As I promised here's latest. I is a swing tune set in a ballroom back in the 40's when people actually went to dance and not to be piled up in a place to see "a concert".

cubanpete,

Really nice work on this—excellent production work. Love how you generate that “live performance” feel to this one. Very impressive.

Oh, man, That's swinging great, and I see what you mean about the sweat. I can also see Cab jumping around in a zoot suit. Great production, Mike.

Enjoy whatever happens!

'cubanpete'...

Norman Granz, the famous 'jazz impressario' who created Jazz at the Philharmonic in 1944, could be cited as one figure in the world of music (along with the advent of long-playing records at the time), who changed the way audiences experienced jazz music performances.

The following article that was published by the New York Times in 2001 on the occasion of his death illuminates his controversial thinking on the matter:

"Mr. Granz also represented stars like Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson and championed their kind of music even though when he began, some critics attacked his musicians and their audiences as ''lower-class swing enthusiasts.'' In all his Jazz at the Philharmonic presentations Mr. Granz emphasized that he wanted no dancing or unruly behavior when the music was played. He wanted people to listen, just as they might listen to Bach or Brahms."

Nonetheless, to his significant credit, he fought REALLY fiercely against the 'Jim Crow' mentality of that time by insisting that African-American musicians and vocalists "be treated with the same respect as Leonard Bernstein or (Jascha) Heifetz because they were just as good," he said, "both as men and musicians."

Your composition, Swing a la Calloway, is such an accurately reproduced and swingin' recreation of ballroom swing arrangements of Granz's era that if I didn't know it was you who put it all together, it would be easy for me assume that the 'chart' had been cooked up by any number of the most famous composer/arrangers working back then. It's a truly impressive piece of high-energy jazz music that sounds as though it was recorded before a 'live' audience.

'cubanpete', you da' man, man laugh !!!

Most sincerely,

LOREN

Once more, thanks to all of you for the time to listen and the nice comments and reviews. So you all know, I wasn't too happy with the piano solo, so I changed it. The original link takes you to the new take.
Loren, you're an educator along with most of the participants in this forum when it comes to write your reviews every time you do that for all the ones you listen to.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!

Wow.

We've watched many a video of the swing era including Cab, of course,
and you did a wonderful job of capturing the era. It is so easy to
envision the band and the crowd dancing.

Excellent!!!!

The live groove is perfect and the intro made us immediately feel that
it was a period piece.

Really nicely done - loved the swinging groove on this. A great throwback tune, and really captures the era that inspired it. Top notch work on the production too.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks J&B and Deryk for the nice comments. This is a good time to create some music since we have to be cooked up in the house around here. Although of course there's always the proverbial "honey do's" in this situations.
Thank to all.

Nice sound! You did an especially good job capturing the sound of a live band in the room.

Stay well and don't go stir crazy!

In addition to country and western and rock, I was introduced to this kind of music thanks to my parents. Amazing job. Sounds like one of those old 33 1/3 LPs!!

When this started I thought of Gene Krupa. Once you go into it I said yep Cab, but when the clarinet solo started I thought of Benny Goodman. You really have me confused!

Excellent work Mike. I really liked that live feel!

Hey Mike - This is a top notch production, and all around classy. I don't know the songs of that era very well, only from the movies, but it fits like a glove. Really dig that swing in there, and it really does have that "live" band sound to it. Great work and excellent production.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
