Another DayIt's been a week since our last post, so I thought I'd post another old one. We originally posted this about 6 years ago. At the time it was a WIP. For practical purposes, it still is. We no longer have the stem tracks as this is one of the songs in the computer file that fried. All I had to work with was the "final" stereo mix-down. I did quite a bit of reshaping in Audacity that, I think, improved it somewhat. Di was going to sing it on the redo, but her stroke got in the way of that and she has since lost so much strength she cannot sing any more ... we're hopeful that changes ... if so, it's going to be quite a while. She currently can't get out bed by herself and can only walk ten of fifteen feet before she's totally depleted of energy. I have to bathe her, dress her, do all the domestic chores, etc. This one was a real stretch for my limited vocal range. But I managed a few of the higher register passes. Also, this is one of the last songs - there were a few afterwards but not many - on which I played my own lead guitar track. Fortunately, it's a fairly easy riff. I have Focal Dystonia which is quickly claiming my ability to control my fingers. But, that's okay ... I made a ton of money with my guitar playing for many years. So, I really have nothing to complain about. This is written for a female vocal, such as Jennifer Nettles. But Di is, and was, incapable to singing. But we like the song so much, we decided to put it out there with my meager attempt on vocals. Because we, mostly I (Alan), have very little time to dedicate to new projects, we hope you won't mind us re-posting a few of our early songs (2010 - 2016) or thereabouts. I'll get back to everyone as quickly as I possible can with a listen and comment. Thanks in advance. Di and I hope all you are well and stay that way. Please be safe!!! Also, for those confused about Di's name on the copyright credits: her previous married name was "Bowers", her legal married name is "Diana F. David". "Diana Randall" is her professional name ... Randall was the first name of her youngest son who died in a car accident. PS: We wrote this on as a challenge to ourselves: Write and record a contemporary country ballad and make it big. I think we may have come close to achieving that. You can be the judge. I entered the lyric in larger print so it might be easier to read. Alan & Di Another Day
(v1) The sky went dark The wind stood still You left me in the shadow of Another lover's call You left me here, standing on the edge But there's no place for me to fall
Pre-Chorus What will I do, where will I go How could I find another, when I love you so Perhaps I never told you, I guess I thought you knew I'd give my life, I'd give anything for you
CHORUS Another day of dying without you No sun no moon, no early morning dew Another day, of forever turning blue Without you, there ain't no way I can go on another day
INSTRUMENTAL
Repeat Pre-Chorus
Repeat Chorus

Really enjoyed this one, just an excellent song!
I've heard a couple in the past that you played guitar on, you were obviously a pro level player. Sounds great to me, lots of passion in those notes.
As far as posting the old songs go, keep them coming! I'm sure most on the forum here have not heard them.

Alan & Di,
A really nice song. Beautiful melody.
Nicely put together - as are all of your productions.
That guitar is smoooookin'... hot!
Keep 'em coming. The best to you both, as always.

Hello Alan,
The songs starts very strong with those drums. Love that. The band gives a nice tension to your song. And the leadguitar is pretty cool! Also you are too modest about your singing qualities. In a way they are intriguing for that other day to come. But you are right, if Di could sing it...
There is one thing though I want to mention here: when you post your songs you always write it were old songs rescued from a FRIED computer where one or two tracks are bad or missing or whatever, and then we hear a great song! How must we see those stories?
Stay safe you and Di, Hans

Thank you for sharing this one - I thought the lyrics and melody were great. It may have been written for a female vocal but you do the song justice and especially do a good job of adding emotion to the song. Please do keep sharing your older tracks. I have only joined this community in the last year and would really enjoy getting to listen to them for the first time!

Although I almost never do my own tracks any more, I still practice at least an hour every day. I appreciate to nice comments about my playing on earlier posts! This one is actually a very simple lead, as I'm sure you can tell. The distortion seems to fill it out nicely. Anyway, many thanks for all the nice words! Wishing you the best. be safe ... Alan

fj Hi Floyd ... Many thanks. For the next several weeks, I'll probably be posting some of our older stuff as time is at a premium. I am working on some new things, but only in very short time frames. I sincerely appreciate the kind words on our music. i wish I could play like that these days! But, like I said in the intro narrative ... I was paid a lot of money for a lot of years for my guitar work. It's all good! Wishing you and yours the very best. Be safe ... Alan

Stay safe you and Di, Hans hello Hans ... It's always nice to hear your comments. I appreciate all your comments and nice words. Di and I always smile when we read them! For these older songs ... I have none of the original, individual tracks. All I have are the finals stereo mixes. I just take those stereo mixes over to Audacity and "massage" them the best I can. I mostly use graphic EQ and compression for the newer sound. Sometimes it works out pretty good. other times, not so much. i was happy with the way this one ended. Again, many thanks. Wishing you the best. Be safe ... Alan

I have only joined this community in the last year and would really enjoy getting to listen to them for the first time! Hello Richard ... Thank you so much for the very, very nice comments. I appreciate them very much. I'm delighted you enjoyed the song. And I will be posting some of our older songs ever y few days for the next couple of weeks. As the older members of the forum already know, my wife is significantly disabled and in very poor health, so much of my time is devoted to her needs. That doesn't leave a lot of time for music. Thank you for asking for some of the older things we did. Appreciate it a lot! Wishing you the best. Be safe ... Alan

One - tell Di that she is in our prayers.
Two - this is fantastic. You have a very good voice, I am jealous!
Your backing tracks and mix are spot on.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I never heard the first run of the song so it's all new to me. Outstanding recording. Nice country ballad. Good lyrics and vocal delivery. Loved that electric guitar. Good one.

That was really, really beautiful. I can only imagine what you and your wife performed in your heyday. So glad you're sharing all these little gems with us and so glad someone made some real money with their music along with enjoying it totally. Icing on the cake.

Your backing tracks and mix are spot on. Hi Mario ... Thanks for the listen and, as always, very nice comments! I appreciate your words very much, as does Di. 1. Thank you for the prayers. Although we don't make a public issue of it, we are Christians. 2. Many thanks! This is probably my best vocal. Just wish I could sing as such all the time. It's pretty much hit and miss for me ... a lot of miss! 3. Thanks for noticing the backing tracks. Most of them came pretty easy. but, played around with many drum tracls before settling on this one. Wishing you and yours the very best. Be safe ... Alan PS: Yes, your wife is so thoughtful! What a caring soul!!!

Your kind words do not fall on deaf ears. The guitar was a Telecaster played through a Peavey Nashville amp and a cheap, off=brand distortion pedal. Again, many thanks. Be safe ... Alan

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
