Down in the One-Ply Holler

I had to jump on the bandwagon (pardon the pun) and write my own Covid-19 song. This one is full of jocularity and was fun to create and record, and is here to make your housebound isolation more bearable. The melody is predictable. For those of you unfamiliar with Appalachia, a "holler" (hollow) is a small valley. So my title has two meanings. One is that the "holler" refers to the persona's domicile, and the other is that using too much one-ply TP might make you holler. (Back in the day as many of you may remember, we referred to this type of TP as John Wayne toilet paper: rough, tough, and doesn't take any sh*t from anybody.)

For those who are of a delicate constitution, I assure that no children were harmed or imprisoned during the making of this song.

I used the style CTRNRGS - Chicken Pickin' Country sans the resonator soloist and added a baritone guitar soloist and a bluegrass acoustic solist.

Lyrics

I’ve binged watched every Netflix show
Gonna give Amazon another look
Clock on the wall moving much too slow
I’ve read seven times ev’ry Harry Potter book

I’m stuck here at home
Endless meetings on the telephone
Don’t think I’ll survive this caper
With two rolls left of one-ply toilet paper

My wife’s hair now has turned to gray
My belly boasts 10 more pounds of lard
I’m worn slap out, can’t last another day
They’re gonna find my children buried in the backyard

Chorus

Zooming with the boss on the internet
It’s 9 a.m. and I don’t care
Wearing a shirt and tie is my best bet
Nothing else on but faded holey underwear.

Chorus

Wylodine,
the gov’ner says we can go out
unlock them kids from their cages
And put on your britches
Gonna grab a root at Cracker Barrel
Who-eee, no more cans of Chef Boyardee

Chorus

Hi Ezekiel,

That was simply inspired!

Well, what more can I say?

Full of social realism and hilarious throughout.

Can't stop singing the chorus after only one listen.
Going back for a second one.

Many thanks for making us laugh in these strange times.

ROG.

Man, this is outstanding, Ezekiel. You speak for all of us. Trains had to blow the whistle through the holler, and, man, that's funny about John Wayne. Never heard that before. Now I gotta go hear this one again. Great lyrics!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Creative and funny. A great combo.

Hey, we get the holler thing...we call the bottom area between two small ridges on our property a holler smile

We really enjoyed this...the write, your vocals, the RT usage and the mix. Great use of that solo RT too.

PS At least you're not down to Sears catalogs. If they still exist!

Hi, Scott !

The first item that disappeared
from the stores over here in
Helsinki were toilet paper and
fortunately we had bought a
big bale much earlier so we
were out of the danger zone !
Funny how it was just TOILET PAPER
- made us think have or fellow Finns started
to EAT toilet paper ???

Well anyway, we can relate to your
absolutely superb lyrics and I´m sure
you must have had real fun putting
the tune together !

Hope you and your closest are safe
(and have enough toilet paper nowadays) !:))

Cheers
Dani

HA!

A clever write. An excellent BAND to back it up. And a good mix.

Fun. Entertaining. Nice to have a little levity regarding the current situation...

Great fun- an outstanding write with a zinger in every verse.
I`m no expert, but for my dime you nailed the Appalachian references and accent!
Well done.

I LOL out loud!

This is a very creative write. You nailed that good ol' redneck sound! Loved it!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Funny little ditty, you put together.
Ha! a toilet paper song. Who would have thunk this a year ago?
Also, I speak Appalachian as my primary language and I'm still working on this "proper English" thing...
Thanks for posting your song.

Dani, all the toilet paper disappeared off the shelves here and is still difficult to obtain. Why on earth people would think they would need to stock up on toilet paper for a pandemic, I'll never figure that one out.

Thanks, Robert. I hope nobody takes me to task on the accent. It's probably a combination of different regional accents. :-)

Thanks, Mario. The humor in my song is the same type of stuff that used to get me in trouble in school.

Bawb, I lived in the mountains of southern West Virginia for a brief spell when I was a youngin. Then we moved back to Michigan where I reacquired my Midwestern accent.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
