Hi all, thought I’d put this up, it’s a song I wrote prior to discovering BIAB, but I have lightly enhanced with some BIAB saxophones (2294 & 2295) and even though it’s quite rocky I used the _PBALLAD.STY. I really like the added touch to the initial recording, which was recorded in a studio and is not me singing.

Lyrically, it might seem to be especially relevant now, depending on your views!

Cheers,
David

Lyric video: https://www.djhsongs.co.uk/osl-theressomething

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON

There’s something going on and I don’t get it
It’s madness and it makes no sense to me
They lie and cheat to try and justify it
They’re frightened the truth will set us free

There’s something going on can you sense it
A feeling that there’s something just not right
With a media complicit in not reporting
Just pumping out their constant biased lies

Chorus
What does it take, what do you need, please tell me
What more proof does there have to be
But like they say there’s none so blind
As those who will not see

There’s something going on and I don’t like it
They’re trying to take away our right to speak
Too late the time will come to regret it
To find the price of speech no longer free

Chorus
What does it take, what do you need, please tell me
What more proof does there have to be
But like they say there’s none so blind
As those who will not see

You can ignore reality but only up to a point
When you can't ignore the consequences of the changes that you’ve brought
And there’s so much that you won’t see or don’t want to know
Will it only happen when they reap all that you’ve sown

There’s something going on have you not heard it
The whispers of the growing malcontent
If you listen you can hear them getting louder
As they realise just where their future went

Chorus x 2
What does it take, what do you need, please tell me
What more proof does there have to be
But like they say there’s none so blind
As those who will not see

Very cool song David. Vocals had a familiar sound to them. Then I thought Supertramp with the vocals and harmonies. Well done.

A cool song!! Really like the feel you've created.....the staccato beat and some great vocals create somewhat of a Beatles sound!! Really great production and mix!! Nicely done!! Take care. Greg

Sounds Brit, sounds 60s and sounds good.
The singer does a fine job.
I LOVE the lyrics.
The vocal reminds me of Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Cool.

Cheers

Thanks Scott, I'll have to listen to some of their stuff - I only know the "Girlfriend" one.

Thanks Ray, must admit I am very proud of the lyric, it will hopefully one day feature on my Jeremid EP :-) The singer/producer Nigel did a great job.

Many thanks to all for listening,
Cheers,
David

you seem to like the darker stuff. This is the second of yours I've listened to. I like dark music.

Nice work

djames,

Good tune . . . really well put together from a production standpoint, with some great touches. Catchy chorus—and definitely a British Invasion type sound to this (for me at least). Very cool listen—excellent work! I’ll look forward to hearing more from you.

Best regards,

Deej

Djames, flashback to the 60's! This is very Beatles like. Super backing tracks and a very strong vocal.

This is an outstanding song.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Mario just said what I was going to say. A real Beatles flavour to this song and I can see the fab four belting this one out on top of the pops. LOVE it, a real keeper

Thanks Herb, yes my most recent songs have been on the darker side lyrically, laments to the state of things. I wasn't always this bitter and twisted :-)

I will put a new one up, it's not exactly cheerful but it's very different lyrically called The Last Goodbye or A Permanent Reaction

Thankks Deej, much appreciated. I hadn't realised the "Britishness" of it till reading the replies, but promise no more invasions!

Cheers Graham, it's a lovely thought however I have 2 bits of bad news for you - having lived in Stornoway in my formative years I know the news is a bit behind in the Highlands and Islands :-)

Many thanks,
David

I enjoyed the lyrics: powerful "And there’s so much that you won’t see or don’t want to know Will it only happen when they reap all that you’ve sown" and bit terrifying "Too late the time will come to regret it To find the price of speech no longer free". The band is really strong and the BIAB saxes add nice rocky edge. It's not the Beatles that came to my mind but more like The Clash, The Jam and Madness, I started to listen to Brit pop when they were on top.

Hello David ...

Loved it! Definitely has a Beatles vibe. The lead guitar wasn't so similar to George's, but it gave the song it's own identity. Your vocal is outstanding and the lyric is nicely put together. Everything about this is spot on ... really nice!

Best to you. Be safe ...

Alan

David,
Well written song with the angry lyrics tempered by that great beat and the nicely layered band. I hear a little of The Jam in this too- which is a good thing!
Very well done on all levels.

Hi David.
Hope you didn't mind my comment of your song "The Last Goodbye" but I think you have validated them yourself with this song.
Your vocals are terrific in this song with good energy . I love the song and the lyrics . Reminds me a bit of "Butterfly Ball".

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
