Emerald

Scott and Ray asked Janice to join in on this song several months ago and the audio version was posted by Scott. The plans were for Ray to produce a video and he asked us for some clips of Janice lip syncing. We sent him an idea for all of the vocal parts with the notion he would pick and choose amongst them. He surprised us by suggesting that J&B create the video using all of the clips. Having never done a complete video in this manner it was a fun challenge and this is the result. Without this experience our previous post (Hometown Refugee video) would never have been created. If you would like to watch the link (no ads!) will get you there and thanks for your time and any comments. Thanks Scott, Ray and PG Music.

Below is info from Scott’s original post that includes the BiaB tracks and more.

“Here is a new/old song. This song was born in 2012 when I was searching through the BIAB styles. I came across the Emerald style. I have played this song in my daily rotation since then. Robert, Ray and I were passing around ideas and I presented this as a potential for a new song with lyrics. Robert decided to take a break so Ray and I developed it into this song. Ray came up with a very cool lyric and we made some changes to the backtrack. After the backtrack was developed we sent it to Janice and Bud and they graciously joined the project. “

RealTracks in song: ~~532:Bass, Acoustic, Pop Sw 085
RealTracks in song: ~~689:Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 085
RealTracks in song: ~~362:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085
RealTracks in song: ~1032:Guitar, 12-String Electric, Strumming Ev 085
RealDrums [in Song:CountryEven8: a: Brushes, HiHat b: Snare, Ride
Ray did some tweaks to the drum track
We also used the ~~689:Organ, B3,

Janice - Vocals and Harmonies
Ray - Bass, Rhythm Guitars
Scott - Guitar melody and fills.

The mixing was pretty much a group effort and Bud did the final master.

Absolutely superb. More than that - I will say it: an extraordinary achievement. The video is so beautiful ... and perfectly suited to the song. The song is one of my favourite songs ever to fall under the Janice & Bud aegis. The instrumentals are top notch and yet somehow unobtrusive. Centre stage falls to Janice, who is somehow (I've said before about this song, when it was posted in its audio version only) better, clearer, crisper and more emotional than ever in her singing.

Hats off all round.

What an outstanding production!

Super sweet tone on that axe Scott and a great job on that bass and rhythm guitar Ray. If Janice sang the entire dictionary I would listen to the entire thing, she sings that good! Of course Bud expertly puts everything together.

An outstanding job by all those involved.

Loved it.

Hi J&B, Scott and Ray;

I heard this very nice song before on SoundCloud, loved and enjoyed it and now it's here as Janice, the video!!!
I can only repeat what I said before on the song; wonderful.
And for this video I can say that last word again.
A very good performance!
And I watched another one "Scat", also very impressing.
And "dear mama": Then I noticed Floyd and Peter played along. So, a lot of musicians in BiaB know eachother for a long time.
And I am probably the only (active) Dutchman around in BiaB...

It also reminded me on what kind of videos I need to make to come with my songs...sight... ;-)

Have a nice day,
Hans

Thank you. Your generosity in comments is very supportive and confidence inspiring. Creating the video was a unique challenge in selecting scenes, shooting and syncing it all in the editor. We are very glad it all worked for you!

Janice, Bud, Ray & Scott,

This song and production is stunning in every aspect...

The video is really on another level. A beautiful backdrop coupled with a knock-out vocal by Janice really brings this home.

LOVED IT!

All involved,

Great song as previously noted, and a stunning "debut" video (it was produced before Hometown Refugee) by a rising
music video star!

A superb and enjoyable way to enhance the song and some lovely cinematic filming, scripting and editing by Bud.

Tons of talent on show!

Absolutely wonderful in so many ways.
The temptation in video is to become enchanted with the influx of production values and permit that medium to take over. That potential pitfall was skillfully avoided by careful selection and tasteful application of themes. Very nicely done!

I really like this song a lot, I know I'll be singing it through the rest of the day. Video was very good, excellent idea to avoid close-ups and not challenge the lip-syncing too much. Really liked the train track sequence. Guitar was great. Good work all the way around.

This emerald is a gem. Every facet (composition, lyrics, arrangement, performance and production) is polished to perfection.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
