Am I going crazy? I open up a new session of BIAB, put in a selection of chords for one of my songs. Every style I try has a background of accordion ohm-pah stuff playing. I haven't selected accordion in the "instrument" panel - at least I don't think I have.
Someone please help! Thanks. Wes

Wes,
A LOT more information would be helpful.

1. What kind of computer, i.e., specs, CPU, RAM, Hard drive, OS, etc.
2. What synth are you using? Hardware, software, etc.
3. Did you reclose and reopen BIAB?
4. What steps have you taken to resolve the issue on your own?

Gary

Hello Wes,

Check the notation window. Perhaps it is coming from the Melody [M] or Soloist [S] track...

Hi Wes,
Besides what Gary (information help us) and Andrew recommends, can you see the unintended accordion in your synth instrument panel? or just listens it? What instruments sound source do you use? Check if your VST/DXi or hardware syth instruments source is being properly initialized and it can accept program changes. Also see in Prefer/MIDI Options if the right columns related to Patch Changes are checked in order to BIAB can send program changes to synths. Hope it help.

Sounds like the dreaded "Accordion Virus" has attacked your computer. There is no known cure!!!

Thanks everyone for the ideas.... So here's what I did, I went to the restore (in EDIT) and went back to original settings and that got rid of the unwanted accordion sounds. Still don't know what happened but it's working now.

thanks again.

The only way to quite an accordian is to squeeze all of the air out of it . . . Ducking and running because here comes Graham!

You want to duck? I'll bet you've all heard this one:

A man leaves his accordion on the back seat of his car and goes into a store. The car is unlocked.

When he comes out, he calls the police.

There is another accordion on the seat!

Actually....don't hit me....I've come to a great appreciation of the accordion. I've listened to Grahams work, and others, and I do enjoy the sound of the accordion and it's siblings. Of course, there are those mental images that come with the instrument...the character John Larroquette played on 'Night Court' in a baby blue tux and an accordion...that bring shudders to your body.

I comment to Graham recently that his playing is as good as Frank Marroco, who is probably the most sought after Hollywood session player for the instrument. If you have an opportunity to listen to his music, you'll understand. In my opinion, Frank did for the accordion what Stephane Grappelli did for the violin in the jazz genre.

And besides, whether you're willing to admit it or not, everyone really does like a polka!

It is not the poor misaligned Accordian itself that is at fault, for in the hands of a good player, the instrument can indeed be a wonderful thing. Witness our own Graham and his accordian playing.

Blame it on all the wannabe Accordianists out there. That's where the bad comes from.

I don't know which is worse - accordian or banjo. I've heard that since the harp is the official instrument of heaven, the accordian is the official instrument of hell. And do you know the difference between a banjo and an onion?

At least the accordian does not have a B string that is forever out of tune...

Thanks for pointing that out Mac . . . I thought it was just an issue with every guitar that I owned.

I will sleep better tonight, just saying.

The same can be said for the guitar!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Has anyone ever had a guitar where the B string was in tune?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
