Running Power Tracks 12 on a big-shouldered Gateway Media Center PC with 8 GB of ram. Quad-core--all the horsepower one would need.

My end goal is to play a track from Channel 1, and have a vocalist (through the mixer) record her voice onto Channel 2. I have told Channel 2 to receive Stereo Audio.

--I have plugged a mixer into the computer's inputs, and can actually see its output on Power Tracks VU meters.

But even though I can see the mixers output on PTPA's very own VU meters, I just can't steer it onto Power Tracks Channel 2.

In Audacity it works fine. I just can't find the mystery setting that hooks up "the last mile" in PT.

Thanks for any help you can lend...

You have to be able to see the Audio action on the LEFTHAND side VU meters to know that you've chosen the Line Input for your soundcard. LH is Input, RH is Output. The Output usually works by default.

At any rate, selecting the right Input is a function of your soundcard's software mixer applet and is not found in Powertracks.

If you can tell us exactly what you are using for a sound device or soundcard, perhaps someone can give you a step-by-step. Otherwise, find that mixer applet and find its "Recording Properties" and set that to Line Input.

On the VU meters, I am seeing the mixer coming into the left side VUs. The mp3 file on Track 1 is firing the right side of the meters.. Both of these are happening at the same time.

The computer comes stock with a Realtek HD audio system. This is a Vista OS upgraded to Windows 7, and the latest Realtek drivers are installed.

The mixer is plugged into the LINE IN jack on the computer. The recording properties of the soundcard are set so that the LINE IN is the default device. I can even hear the mixer coming back through the speakers.

I just can't seem to get the LINE IN from the computer to connect to RTPA's Channel 2, which is set as a stereo audio track. I have gone into the AUDIO section of RealTracks and made the LINE IN the chosen input audio driver. I have done nothing with the drivers on the output side.

I'm just stumped.

Since Audacity records the mixer with virtually no adjustments, I'm confident that the audio is in the right place. It just has to be a setting or a check box I'm missing somewhere..

If it is of any help.. I have the same issue with Band In A Box--can't get the mixer all the way into software for recording.

Again thanks for your input. I have an informal recording session coming up Monday morning, and I like to work these things out well in advance.

Go to options / preferences and make sure that the realtek is highlighted.

Close this box and open the tracks view (the one marked "T") then set track 2 to mono audio, and to input from Realtek audio.

It is the last step that I can't seem to find..

"and to input from Realtek audio"

All else was done long ago. Could this be the last mile?

Where do I find this?

Make sure that the track you are recording to
is RED on the left and did you press record? If it's in the meters is going to go to the track IF you press record. How high do those meters go while attempting to record.

As Silvertones mentioned, if you see the input in the meters in PT, you have everything setup right routing-wise.

Check to make sure the track you are recording to is highlited and set to audio
Make sure that 'Punch-in' is not enabled, as this could restrict when it records
Make sure you click the red record circle, not the play arrow..

Sounds like you have it set up right, as far as the routing.

*Did you ARM the track you wish to record to by clicking on the track number in Tracks View so that the number turns RED?

Do 3 REDS make a right?
