Hi,

Can you use vsc3 for midi playback or is it just for rendering midi to wav? I installed the first option in the installer where it says I will play from the the usb drive. I thought it was supposed to load vsc3 in that option also. I see coyote installed but vsc3 didn't show up in my midi drivers.

Thanks

I think the VSC3 is for standalone use. Unless you have 64 bit Windows 7, the VSC/DXi is what to use in BIAB. Coyote Wavetable is provided for Windows 7 folks as VSC/DXi as it will not work on 64 bit.

Hi Gary,

The VSC3 is an older non-DXi version of the VSC.

It is indeed intended to be used as a MIDI output synth.

If installed properly, you should see it as a choice in the BiaB MIDI Output window on the RH side.

It doesn't sound as good as the later VSC DXi version, but with older operating systems it should work. I don't know if it will work at all with any of the newer systems, "newer" meaning anything that came after XP.

HI,

I"m using Xp and trying to install from BIAB 10.5, the usb drive that PGmusic sends you. Are you saying that possibly during the intstall it didn't install correctly or I didn't install it correctly?

Thanks

Well, can you see the VSC listed in the RH MIDI Output window in BiaB? (Note: it will NOT be found under the "Use DXi" checkbox, which should be unchecked in order to highlight any available non-DCi synths listed there. If you check "Use DXi" you should find the DXi VSC listed in the next window that opens. That is the preferred one to use these days and it does install with the BB Installer unless you didn't allow it.

I don't think the VSC3 installs from within the "regular" BiaB Installer.

Look at the contents in the folders of the drive for a separate folder that contains the VSC3 and its Installer.

Hi Gary,
Since you're running XP, I recommend the VSC-DXi. You should find --(VSC-DXi_Setup.exe)--- for it in your -- (X:\bb\vsc\VSC_Installs)--folder, where X is the drive you have bb on. As Mac mentions, it is a lot better sounding synth, and usually runs great on XP. If you do decide to use it, and you have any trouble getting it installed, be sure and post back.
Later,
Jim

I'd be completely happy if I had just one more guitar.

Hi,

To answer Mac, VSC is not listed in the midi driver list in the RH midi driver list..doesn't matter if use DXI checkbox is checked or not. When I check it the box it also shows a checkbox about routing midi through to midi driver. and displays a window that is the VST/DirectX Instruments/plugins...with a synth track tab and audio track tab that seems to just sit there waiting to be minimized.

To answer Jim, I followed the path you posted and ran the vsc dxi and it said it was already installed.

Does this sound normal at this point?

Thanks for helping!

When you get to that window, that synth track tab should also have a dropdown slot at the top of it where you can select which DXi or VST synth you want to run. The dropdown slot has a little down arrow to the right of it, click that to see the list. Then select the VSC DXi. If you don't see it, then you didn't install it.

DXi synths will NOT appear in the main RH MIDI Output window.

Another place to see if any DXi synth has already been installed is in the Control Panel of your OS, in the Add/Remove Programs list. I just checked on my XP computer and the VSC DXi is listed under the Vs in my alpha listing.

Hi,

I have it where you say it should be in my add/remove programs folder but there is no sound unless I uncheck the Use VST/DXi synth and Route midi thru to midi driver check boxes. Should the Synth sound card drop down on the far right of this driver page be put on vst/dxi also? I put it back to general midi. I notice there is no instruments on the synth track tab on the VST/DirectX plugin page that pops up, in the edirol part. Seems like there were instruments listed there yesterday.

Thanks,

Hello Gary,

Do you, by any chance, have the 64-bit version of Windows XP? You can check by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. The VSC-DXi won't work on any 64-bit operating system, so you'll want to use the CoyoteWT. This would explain why the installer didn't originally install the VSC-DXi, and why you were able to get it *partially* installed by going directly into the VSC_installs folder and doing it manually.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows XP, then you *should* certainly be able to use the VSC-DXi. Go back into the DirectX window and look at the VSC panel. Try clicking on the Setup button. If that opens up a dialog, make sure that ALL boxes are checked in that dialog in all tabs. If you get an error message when you click on the Setup button, this means that the VSC isn't installed properly. To fix this problem:

1. Close Band-in-a-Box
2. Uninstall the VSC via Add/Remove programs.
3. Reboot.
4. Reinstall the VSC - either use the Band-in-a-Box Setup.exe on the hard drive and choose option 1 or Custom install, or you could use the file you used before.

You can select General MIDI instrument misc. in the Synth/Sound card menu. It's not usually critical what you select there. That would be unrelated to your problem.

Hi,

I checked for 64 and it didn't say anything about it and I got the error message. So I did what you said and reinstalled and got the instruments in the vst page BuT it didn't have a sound till I unclicked the USE VST/Dxi synth checkbox. So I told the vst page to use coyoteWT and now I have sound. And I would assume it's looking at the coyote, the midi sounds the same but there seems to be more of a spatial stereo effect with better placement of instruments in the stereo field with slight effects. Does this sound right?

Does it matter what midi output driver is set on? and do I need to click the box that says "route midi thru to midi driver"?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Gary,

If you're using a DXi synth, it shouldn't matter which MIDI Output Driver you use, as the MIDI signals get routed to the synth instead.

" I notice there is no instruments on the synth track tab on the VST/DirectX plugin page that pops up, in the edirol part."

I believe that "Edirol part" was the VSC DXi's control panel. If you don't have sound when the VSC DXi is selected, give our tech support line a call at 1-866-983-2474, I'll be happy to walk you through fixing it. It's not too hard, but it is easier to do over the phone. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Thanks

Another post confusing VSC and VST. Similar lettering, different meanings.

Actually VSC3, besides the standalone (system synth) version (replacing the Microsoft GS Synth), also comes with a DXI plugin version.
