I recently came across this interesting site that can provide a large variety of MIDI backing tracks.

There are a lot of free ones out there!

Google is our friend!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

A *good* quality MIDI file can take time. Plus the licensing.. $9 seems reasonable to me.
However, having PGMusic products spoils us since we know what we can do already.

Plus from the samples I checked out the product is pretty darn good. If I was more into midi I would be a customer, in fact I may still be for some of those tunes that I just can't seem to get down with real tracks.

Writing MIDI files that work on most of the various synths is in itself an art. I'd want at least $9 apiece for all the work!

They aren't selling public domain material. I've been purchasing from the Midi Hits folks for a number of years and with rare exceptions their product is worth every penny considering that you (1) get a professionally done product that (2) is legally licensed with (3) the songwriter and performer getting his/her due,...unlike the free stuff that you find out on the web. We all know that you can google for the location of MIDI versions of copyrighted material just like you can google for Bit Torrents of BIAB to download. It doens't mean that we should advise people to do that OR solicit people to share copyrighted work with us.

FWIW, MIDI-Hits has rather frequent sales that get you much lower prices when you buy in lots of 3 or 5 or some other specified number. I've averaged paying about six dollars for their $9.99 files by waiting for their sales and buying in whatever lot size yields the largest discount.

That is a good point Keith, I have downloaded for years, from the free sites, and two things are clear.

1. These sites are dissappearing rapidly due to copyright fear

2. You get a far more complete product from a pay site. The attention to detail is better, and the guitar bends, and such more real.

I've bought quite a few from midi-hits. All high quality.
I've also used Hoofjaw... though not as often.

I just looked at that one, Robh. You can click on the custom and it shows each audio track. You can mute the vocal tracks if you want to. Their files are in mp3 format. I'm not qualifed to comment on their quality. Midi seems to sound better on my setup with the Ketron SD2.

If I were gigging for $$, I could see paying for a "quality" backing track. I've been using Bob Norton's fakebook discs which have worked out well for what we do. My wife has to have the notation so..... Having those biab styles and chords saves us a bunch of time. Well worth the $ for us. YMMV

I like hoofjaw too
I used to really like Tycho tunes. they had some great stuff and great deals but sadly the went away due to people uploading their songs so they could be stolen...I try to make all of my own files these days because programs like biab and jammer make it so easy and fun.

I've downloaded a bunch of freebies. You get what you pay for. I've always done some editing on them in RB. Sometimes I've downloaded some karaoke Christmas tunes from Amazon for 99 cents. They are mp3s and I've done some editing on them in WavePad. They are a lot better quality than most of the midi freebies--especially for only 99 cents each. I actually don't mind doing editing on songs that we use for our gigs though. To me that's part of the fun with BIAB and RB and you can add different effects such as wind sound, etc..

+1 for Midi-hits. I've bought several... they're very good.

in comparison...
I've wasted time downloaded thousands of disappointing free MIDI files...
I've wasted time sorting through them to find something usable...
I've wasted time trying to fix bad drum tracks or incorrect notes...
I've wasted time trying to learn how to make the whole track myself....
I've wasted time trying to learn a variety of different software packages to help me make my own tracks...
I've wasted time searching huge archives trying to find the right drum pattern, style or groove track for a song...

Given the goal of assembling a gig's worth of backing tracks to startt performing ASAP:

If I were starting from scratch today, I would make more progress for less money and in a shorter period of time by simply buying high quality tracks from this place at bulk/sale prices

Given the goal of creating original music AND creating backing tracks for covers:

The tracks I'm making now with RB and BIAB sound better to me than the MIDI-HITS songs. I'm having fun making them, and PGMusic's products also open doors for creating original music. You can't buy that from MIDI-HITS or anybody else.

If you're just looking for audio backing tracks, you can find thousands of them on Youtube. Just search for KARAOKE or INSTRUMENTAL

Many freeware packages let you save audio from YOUTUBE videos

Most of the Karaoke that I've seen on youtube, though good, is a copyright infringement.

Absolutely. I don't see a reason to every buy tracks when with a little bit of ability, some patience, and some imagination you can do anything with this software p to and including firing your band and keeping all teh money for yourself.

And that is coming from someone with as little ability as the next guy!!!

Wait, that didn't come out right....

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
