Hello
I tried to install Powertracks midi sequencer 3.5 on my system...I tried to change the path of the installation folder to one in my programs folder, I named PT 3.5.
When installing I selected that folder for the install pathway or tried to.....but it did not install it to that folder.
Instead it decided to dump the program in the "programs" folder...making a nice mess of my maticuliously organized standard of installed program folders.

What I need to know now...is the file names of all the dumped files, so I can remove them from the program folder...as no uninstall feature seems to be installed by this program.
I can't just go in there and start tossing out free floating files cause I have no idea what might be put there by other working applications.

any help?

Thanks in advance...oh one more thing...The install shield for this program seems a bit dated...I think PG should work on updating their installers!

I installed PT 3.5 midi sequencer because it was included in my purchase...as a bonus package???
Why not install all the goodies and see what they do?

Unfortunately this dinosuarious program shouldn't be included in a 2007 ultra package!..or the 2008 package I got as Bonus extras!
Not my fault!
They need to update that, not me!

And I found that all of the programs to some extent want to install outside the programs folder by defualt.
I like the programs installed in the programs folder in their own folders with pertanant names...where programs should be installed, under their named folders!...not that they have to be,,,but that would be my choice as defualt...for the folder name implies it is where programs go!
And if the defualt is outside the "programs folder"...one should be able to redirect the installer to a place where they want that program to reside!
This doesn't seem to comply with PT 3.5 installer, even though the option seems to be given.
And that again is not my fault!

We are living in a millenium time line...I think PG music needs a overhaul of their coding department!

Just a view i have...Giving away old software for win 95, is not a free bee or bonus package when we are running XP sp3 or vista/...so lets get that straight!

Now about the problem...does anyone know the files that PT 3.5 creates, so I can remove them...Thanks in advance.

Hi,

PowerTracks 3.5 is an older program which used to be on a free bonus CD included by some dealers.

I have not heard of that happening before, the program installing to C:\folder1 when you select C:\folder1\folder2. However, here is one way you could get rid of the files.

1. Install the program again, making sure it goes into a new folder (if you wanted to be sure, you could install it to C:\newfolder\newfolder2, or whatever).

2. Now open newfolder2 as well and your Programs folder that has the undesired installation. Position both windows side-by-side on your screen, sort alphabetically, and use 'Details' view (i.e. View menu | Details).

3. Compare the files in each folder, deleting the ones that are in both folders.

Amen Brother Andrew...Now that is what I call using the brain cells right.
Thanks for that solution...Don't know why I didn't think that one up.

Any word if it writes to the registry or windows folders?

God bless.

No, it wouldn't have put files anywhere else. Although if you had launched the program it would have created the file ptw.ini, which you can delete as well.

Just so you know; Powertracks is at version 12(+) now. That version was designed for Win95 if I remember correctly. Very outdated. That explains the install program. Doesn't explain why it was included in 2007..

I just looked at the available patches for PowerTracks (you can scroll to the bottom to see it) and the most recent patch available for PowerTracks 3.5e is dated November 1997, so that version is over a decade old.

Sir Les. I just posted (before you) about this very same thing. I didn't remember when I got that bonus disk but I can guess it came with Biab 2007 as per your post. I also didn't install it or try to until yesterday. The Roland VSC, which is really good, is also on that same disk. I just bought PT 12 today and it works great. I'm not sorry about my decision since the 3.5 ver wouldn't work with XP and the price is quite reasonable for what you get.FWIW

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
