Howdy!
I finished a song with 3 differant soloist parts.
When I render to WAV, via DXI, the instruments change, and they all change to the same instrument.
???
Thanks,
Walt

Hi Walt,

Are these MIDI solos on the Soloist track?

Noel

Yes they are.
I spent a couple hours last night changing midi setups, but it didn't change the WAV rendering at all.
I have no idea if it's BIAB or my sound card.???
Without the "Soloist" it renders fine...!

Best I understand (my experience) this can't be done in BIAB. Only one soloist will play on the soloist track. You can have them play at different bars, but only one player. Put soloists on other tracks or work this out in RB.

Hi Walt,

I'm going by memory here because I use BIAB 2010 these days. What I'd try is to use the Save + button and save the song with the patches that you've put in place. Then I'd render it to WAV. You can access the "Save with patches" button by clicking on the little down arrow on the far right of the tool bar and then select "Add or remove buttons". I'm pretty sure that what you want, can be done. This is because the solos are MIDI.

In my version, when I go to "Help >> Index" and type in "Save" it takes me to some information on "Save +".

Hope this helps,
Noel

I'm still sure that each time a solo is generated the entire solo track gets erased and replaced. You should however be able to make a solo the length of the song in midi and press F5 and change the instrument. Mind you the notes were generated based on the range of the original target instrument, so if you used a clarinet which has a crazy range and then switched it to something else it might sound very odd, or very interesting. But to a purist he's gonna say, WOW an electric bass cannot play those notes! I might just try this...

Suggestions failed...!
I can change soloist, ( and John, the changes are certainley interesting ) but everytime I change to a differant instrument, and try that instrument, "save +, save soloist, render to WAV" (and thanks Noel for pointing that out to me), it always comes out with the same midi sounding guitar, not the sax I want...! I have 3 soloist parts, one, an 8 bar sax and the second is an 8 bar horn, the third I recorder a chromatic harmonica part.
It isn't that the guitar soloist is bad, it's just that I want the sax and horn.
(Something I don't understand) why is the saved and rendered soloist always the same guitar.??? Could this problem ( If it's a problem, not just that, that's the way it is ) be something other than with BIAB.???
I'm still open for any suggestions.
Thanks a bunch to all of you.

Have you ensured that the track has no embedded patches that are over riding your patches? I think when you click render it redoes the soloist track. If you have a current version freeze the track first.

I'd be using the export to RealBand feature and finishing this there. You can have both open and cut and paste, put them on separate tracks. Should work even better...

Walt,

I think it's time to contact PGMusic's support. At the bottom of your posts in this thread, there's an envelope. Click on that, fill in an outline of your problem and make a note that detailed information is contained in this thread, and send the form to support@pgmusic.com. This will alert support to this thread and (a) they will know your problem and (b) they'll see all the suggestions (so you won't have to type it up all over again).

Regards,
Noel

Send the file via PM to me or to one of these guys and we can see if we can duplicate. AS I mentioned you can't have multiple soloists, but this guitar thing is not normal.

Hi Dan,

Realtracks don't allow for multiple soloists but Walt is working with midi. My experience is that multiple soloists usually work with midi.

Noel

Just tested and yes once an all midi soloist is selected to play on the soloist track I can F5 to change the instrument (patch) at any bar, but the midi track will only play the notes generated for the initial "soloist" which was set at the beginning. You can't use the Soloist menu to select more than one from there. Is that what is being tried?

Hi Dan,

Did you try selecting a range of bars with the mouse and then using "Custom.." to generate the solo just in that range of bars?

Regards,
Noel

Ok, thats a new one for me, it seems to work as you suggest, but, I don't think I am hearing different stlyes of solo but rather just the midi instrument changing. Like what the F5 does. I will have to continue to check this out.

Thanks Noel

Back to the oritinal OP. I am hearing the soloist instruments that I select. No strange guitar playing.

Noel, yes I did try selecting a range of bars with the mouse and then using "Custom.." to generate the solo just in that range of bars. It renders a solo part but not the instrument that I have selected.
Thanks for the trys.
Maybe we'll get it sooner or later...!

Perhaps you are invoking a Soloist that sets its own instrument patch.

That can be edited from inside the Soloist window, if desired.

The BiaB FAQ page has info on how to get different instruments on the Soloist track for different choruses, check it out. Be advised that it is only for MIDI soloists.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
