Direct X's are fine, but some PG plugins progress with a blue bar, then an error message DISK ERROR. Echo, reverb work, but Flange, Chorus, distortion are all not working...regardless of what drive in my machine I have the file housed in. I remember something like this from years back, and I hope the problem will ring a bell with someone here Thanks- Dan Axelrod

I'm confused; are you having trouble using the plugins or installing the plugins? If installing, are you doing so from the external USB drive provided by PGMusic? If that's the case, it might be that the drive isn't getting enough power. You might want to try using a different USB port, as well as using the split cable to double up the connection to two USB ports.
And the PG plugins are DirectX plugins. They need to be installed to your computer and referenced in the registry.

The plugins you can use under the 'Edit' pulldown are a bit iffy when using a format other than 16/44. Some of the plugins in that pulldown do not work with 24 bit recording.
Easy solution though; all the 'realtime' plugins will work with other bitrates and so you can use the edit pulldown, but select 'realtime DX plugins' from the edit pulldown, then you can load the PGMusic plugins and they will work for hard-writing 24 bit.
It's a little work around if that is what you are after.

Thanks John- I'm talking about applying the effects, and your words are duly noted/ Under EDIT-Audio Effects, there are many "default" ones that show up. but it seems like all the others accessed thru the Direct X portion of that menu (including PG's) do work. I don't know what those default effects are- are they Microsoft?
I assumed they were PG, cause they came up as default, but now I'm second guessing that. Under edit, audio effects, they read Compressor Gate Distortion, etc.
Thanks- Dan

Great suggestion RHARV! It worked like a champ, and i hadn't a clue. I'll/ will use the pull down in the future. Are those default effects Microsoft DX's? Just curious...

The effects listed in the Edit pulldown are the older PGMusic FX. Those should just be replaced with the new versions, but some of them were never updated .. like ring modulator and the parametric EQ.
By using the 'Edit- audio effects- realtime DX FX' route you can incorporate the new ones for the same purpose.

I wish PGMusic would just convert them to DX effects and remove them from the menu. That way, we can use those effects in other audio editors as well, as we can the PGMusic DX effects.

Long past due, however we would lose a few of them; parametric EQ, distortion, ring modulator, etc have never actually been updated to my knowledge! JCJr would have his hands full with it. I'd rather see him working on what he is working on now.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
