I just recently bought UltraPlusPAK of the mac 2016 version and now I noticed that there is the 2017 version and there is a discounted rate of $149 to upgrade to the latest version. What's new with 2017 other than the additional real tracks and HIQ notation?

You should contact PGMusic if you purchased in the last 30 days.

Too many new features to list, but for example there is a new compact toolbar option, a song browser added to the style picker, an improved DAW plugin drop station, a song progress bar, and a chord theory section in the chord builder. Check out the full list here: 2017 New Features

And as John said, you should contact support if you purchased recently.

Froi,

There are over 80 new features. You can find text info on them here. http://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.new.htm

1. We have a short video describing the new Mac version https://youtu.be/49bIs0YoD2o

2. Here's a video describing the 201 RealTracks, there are some amazing new ones in there!

3. There's also this video describing the new features https://youtu.be/5p1mI1fsPm8 and in-depth 21 minute version https://youtu.be/o60HpFwFsOM (the videos in item 3 were shot on the Windows version, but the features are the same on Mac)

There are special prices on upgrades available until May 31, 2017 http://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.packages.htm
For example, the UltraPak Hard Drive Upgrade is $149, and normally is $279. That has over 2,600 hours of studio recorded RealTracks and RealDrums.

Thank you for your replies.

I started with the Pro version last March 21 and upgraded to UltraPlusPAK last April 8.

I am now chatting with a customer rep from PG to discuss about the upgrade to 2017. I hope to get a good offer. smile

This is in my wish list. Right now, I don't have the budget for this one.

Just to clarify... The EverythingPAK hard drive has the same number of RealTracks as the Audiophile edition. The difference is that the Audiophile contains uncompressed original audio of all the same files.

Thanks for the clarification.

What I have now is the UltraPlusPAK and someday I wish to have the Audiophile edition because of the uncompressed files.

One question:

Most of the files, particularly the real tracks in 2017 is the same as 2016 in terms of filename and file size. Are there any differences? Right now, I only downloaded the files that are totally different. (i.e., new files or existing files but different file size).

Froi,

I believe it even says on the download page that you do not need to download the Real Tracks that you already have - they are the same files.

Thanks Bruce.

That's how I understand it too. But when I was talking to the PG support who took care of the upgrade, she told me that I still need to download all.

The uncompressed audio is not available for download — or I would have done so.

Having just purchased Audiophile 2016, I have sent my drive to Canada so that PG will ship me the 2017 version. It took a few days to qualify the return and generate an ID# but it's on the way back now. USPS flat rate for the drive only is $24.95 but it's $95 less than having PG ship it without the return.

Downloading 2017 was no charge but the uncompressed audio was not part of that. I am a bit disappointed in that as I have a good pipeline and downloading 1T wouldn't have been a big deal.

Oh well — it is what it is... In any case, I'll be glad to get it back in a couple of weeks or less.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
