If I were to sub a sound from my Analog Lab 3 synth into a realband midi track how would I save that sound within the song file. As of now if I sub a synth sound and save the song it does not save the sound from the synth because it was not actually recorded in Realband?

Hi Rich,

You'll want to make sure you're saving the project as an SEQ file, not as a MIDI file. The MIDI file format doesn't save plugin selections. If you use SEQ, the file should open exactly as it was when saved.

Thanks

Thank you I will double check. I did not use (save as) because the file was already an seq file. I could be wrong. Are you the support in the chat last night trying to help me get Realband working with my synth? If you are it appears my OS is corrupted and I will be having the drive wiped and Windows re-installed tomorrow. That could be the issue behind my problems. I will keep you posted.
thanks Rich

Yes, we did talk yesterday.

Feel free to contact us again if you keep having trouble saving sounds once the machine's up and running again.

Thanks

Am I missing something, wouldn't that be a mixdown because midi is not audio, so unless you sample the original sound from the VSTi, you'll have to mix it down to another track.

yes, BUT. It depends on what you're trying to do. For now the question is about midi but I get what you're saying.

Lets assume he isn't finished with the song yet so he just wants to save it as midi only. In that case he saves it as a .seq file and he can still go into it and change a midi part if he wants to.

What you're saying is if you're finished with the tune and ready for a mixdown then yes, you render it to audio. That solves the issue of worrying about saving all the softsynth plugin info but now you can't change the underlying midi info.

Here's where people can do things differently. You can render all the tracks to audio and save them in the same project so you have both the midi and audio tracks. For me I like things simple, I'll render the audio to a new project so I wind up with two, one midi and one audio. The midi one winds up being my "work" project and the other audio one is my mix/master project.

This is where other DAW's can provide more flexibility but I like experimenting with Real Tracks in a midi file and prefer not going back and forth between RB and another DAW so I tend to just use RB.

Getting back the same "sound" from a midi instrument can sometimes be tricky, especially if you tweak the default patches, or layer multiple synths w/fx.

In theory it's suppose to work, but doesn't always work in practice. Generally the DAW is suppose to manage saving the patches used by the VST, but when you customize a sound you have to save the preset, otherwise it's lost.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
