I just read a post from a fairly knowledgeable industry expert on another internet forum that about 1 billion songs are being posted PER MONTH from about 60 million artists on the Internet.

WOW.

I guess BIAB has to take some of the responsibility for this but dang...

Is that why music licensing companies have to use robots to listen to their song submissions?

Is 1 billion a month a lot??

wink

The those 60 million artists sure are prolific. That’s over 16 sings each per month.

Ha ha! That puts things in perspective. Then again maybe some of those 60million are putting out hundreds of songs and messing up the averages!

You have to take these kind of figures with a pinch of salt because you wonder how anyone would ever measure this.

That's a big number - but when you take into consideration ALL the music artists in ALL the countries in the world, I'm not too surprised. I'd be really interested in reading that article if you happen to have a link smile

If you started listening to just the first 10 seconds of each song, it would **only** take 317 years (listening 24x7x365) to get through the first billion songs, and of course every month there's another billion stacking up.

So yes, that's a lot. smile

It's really not that many once you factor out genres you don't listen to, stuff you don't have access to, anything by Justin Bieber....

Deryk,

The guy did not cite a source, but he is knowledgeable. I will see if I can get him to give me a citation.

But, hey some people on Band in a Box--thanks to YOU Deryk and your Band in a Box Software buddies--have posted 5 songs a day on the BIAB forum.

If they are doing that on other forums, well that could soon be 5 x 30 x 60,000,000 which is 9,000,000,000...

or...

The destruction of life as we know it????????

That is a crazy number! I see others already asked for citation, but even still -- it makes sense. Music is a powerful form of expression and a good outlet. I can see why it's so incredibly popular.

Cool stat! Thanks for sharing!

The stat doesn't make sense. Somewhere, someone forgot a zero or two.

I know what it's like to write and post 14 songs in a month, and that's quite a challenge if we are talking compositions with arrangements and what not.

If we are talking someone banging out a 1 4 5 chord progression on an acoustic guitar, with no lyrics, and no thoughts as to why it's a song, and sticking it on YouTube - well, maybe 16 songs per posting entity per month could be believed, but even on the BIAB forum, I'm guessing the average output of ACTIVE persons posting using BIAB as one of their tools is typically a few songs per month. Even for those of us that are FAWMers like myself and Joanne and Samuel, 14 songs in a month is not something you can sustain year-long unless you are doing it as a profession. You CAN do it of course, but I challenge anyone that hasn't participated in February Album Writing Month, to give it a try. Challenge yourself to output 14 songs - real songs - in a month. Even if it means coming up with 14 different chord progressions and styles and letting BIAB do it's thing. Something you are happy with and willing to let the world hear it - try doing 14 of those suckers in a month.

When I just checked, there are 7.6 Billion (and some change) people alive on planet earth. This statistic means that on average, every person on earth is posting at least one song per year. Edit: in 2015 it was estimated that of the world's population, 3.2 Billion have some type of internet access. In other words, of the people that CAN post, they are posting 3-4 songs per year.

Nope.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
