This is my first ever attempt in the country genre, so I am a little nervous about posting this as there are so many experts in this genre on this forum.

Please, don't be afraid of telling me if I should stay away from messing with this genre. smile

I've used:
RT2421: Acoustic bass
RT428: Fiddle
RT432: Mandolin
RT604: Guitar
RealDrums: BrushesBoomChickEv16

Vocal: Jax

Hi, Will.

I enjoyed the track! I wouldn't worry about whether it's "country" or not - a song stands on it's own merits, not how much it sounds like other songs.

If you posted another in the same genre, I'd not hesitate to have a listen to that one, too. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Wow - this tune was a trip! A little far removed from what I'd consider country, but a very memorable tune nonetheless. Really unique, and definitely a standout tracks.

Thanks for sharing smile

Will,

Well, definitely not what I would call country—kind of a gypsy jazz feel to me. But I’m with David C. in thinking genre doesn’t much matter. It’s the song that counts and you’ve got a good one here. Love those vocals. Very well done!

All the best,

Deej

Will, this sounds great to me! As someone noted, it has a gypsy/jazz feel but country flavored! The melody is very nice and the vocal outstanding! Thanks, Torrey

Thank you all for your very nice comments.

Ha! Me calling it country just shows how little I know about the genre. Or maybe it is because I always like to tweak things a bit and therefore end up with something which is difficult to recognize as a specific genre.

Anyway, I am happy that you took time to listen too it - and I am sure Jax will appreciate your positive comments about her vocal performance.

Will,

A very cool song. Excellent mix.

An terrific vocal. The instrumentation wraps around it nicely - and "stays out of the way" to let it shine.

Very enjoyable listen.

Unique, and I mean that in a good way. You did a great job with the progression. The production was nice too, with the instruments coming and going subtly--especially the mando. A very fun listen.

Will,

Genre is in the ear of the listener. If, for some reason, I had to define this by genre, I would say Progressive Bluegrass. This is a terrific song and recording. What a great vocal - loved it! I would love to hear more like this - seriously! best to you.

Hi Alan,

"Progressive Bluegrass" ... never heard that before, but I'll buy that. Seems like a good term for this music.

Thanks for listening!

Will,

Cool and Nice song!
I agree with Alan.
"Progressive Bluegrass"
It is certainly a country-like song, but elements other than that are included a lot, I think Alan's naming is wonderful.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Will, why did you classify this as “country”? I would say this is a totally unique composition, free of any pre-defined category...giving it its own freedom and identity. When you develop ideas creatively like this, with the intention of presenting something of quality, you really showcase what the BIAB “building set” is all about! Please do more of this free-thought combining of style elements to bring fresh sounds and ideas to the forum...I thought it was great!!

Hi Will,

although (like most Europeans) I'm anything but a country expert, I cannot tell, if your song belongs to that
genre, but I can tell if a song is good. And that one is a good one with a very special mood.

If you haven't already done it: Go and marry Jax - that way you'll always have a great singer for your songs.

All the best,

Stefan

Tano Music and Stefan,

Thank you so much for your very, very nice comments.

@Tano
After reading all the comments, I do regret that I classified it as "country". I just really didn't know what style I should label it with. I will remember your words "free of any pre-defined category" next time I am in doubt... smile

Will

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
