Using Calibre to convert PDF's with lots of graphics is a mess. It will spit out the graphic's 90% of the time in the wrong place, or place them in a single row for the whole chapter.

What I have found that works better than Calibre alone is to first convert the PDF into a .mobi file using Mobipocket Creator, then converting THAT file in Calibre. Most of the time it will come out fine in ePub format, with the graphics getting messed up, or the text getting broke up around every paragraph or page break.

And both programs are free....
