Riff #11 - Polytonal Arpeggio in C
This 16th note Riff in C Major incorporates both hands as it travels up the keyboard.
The LH begins by playing a Gb6 arpeggio in root position, followed by the RH playing a C6 arpeggio, and so on up the keyboard.
This poly-tonal piano riff can be used as a flashy intro or as a fill in a solo. This type of device is a favourite among classical composers and modern jazz players.
Riff #1 - Blues Chord Slide 1
This Piano Riff in G major is based on triplets.
Because of the way a piano keyboard is set up, it's easy to slide into a chord made of all white keys from a chord made up of black keys. In this Riff, the right hand (RH) slides from a Gb Major Triad into a G Major Triad, and the left hand (LH) captures a G major triad note in the middle beat of each triplet.
It's a fun and easy riff to insert as a flashy ending or fill in a blues shuffle in G Major.
Riff #7 - Octave Lick Fm7
This 16th note riff is based in the key of F or F Minor, and can be used in a Latin/Jazz or Funk solo over F-7 or F7#9.
This riff demonstrates how to create 'groups of 3' in a 16th-note based groove.
The riff has the LH forcefully playing the first note, followed by the RH which plays the same note one octave higher then down one octave.
Once you get the hang of the basic rhythm, try it in different keys using different notes.
Riff #10 - Triad Lick in C
This 16th note Riff in C Major incorporates both hands as it travels up the keyboard.
The LH begins with a 16th note anticipation a half step below C, followed by the RH playing 3 notes of the C Major Triad. This continues, with the LH anticipating each RH inversion by playing a half step below.
This flashy fill can be played in ballads, or as a way to "lift" into a solo in a jazz or rock solo.
Riff #15 - Jazz Chord Intro C
This is a classic Jazz piano Intro riff, used by countless pianists to setup a jazz swing tune in the key of C Major. Generally this riff is played when there is a bassist as well.
This Riff is comprised of 2 jazz chord voicings: C13 and Bb13, with a B13 chord interconnecting the two.
Riff #25 - C Wholetone Scale Up
This Riff uses both hands to ascend a C Whole Tone scale, which was widely used during the BeBop era. Try this riff when playing over a C7augmented chord (C7#5) or over a C7b5.
Start by playing the 1st three notes (C/D and E) with the LH, then the next 3 with the RH, and so on.

Riff #42 - Rock Riff in G
This RH Country Riff is in the Key of G major, and is widely used as a fill when playing country rock songs. It's also sometimes used in early rockabilly and even 60's blues rock.
