Band-in-a-Box 2010.5, RealBand 2010.5, and 101 New RealTracks are here! (June 2010)

There were over 50 cool new features added to Band-in-a-Box 2010, and now version 2010.5 adds 40 more! Band-in-a-Box 2010.5 has great new RealTracks features like enhanced pushes, the option to have Jazz chords play as triads or 7ths, and half-time / double-time settings. There are also many enhancements to audio rendering, song entry, and notation.

Plus, we've released 101 new RealTracks in sets 83 to 101, featuring more Jazz bass and guitar, Bluegrass fiddles and mandolins, Jazz B3 organ, Smooth Jazz guitar and saxophone, and much much more!
Hi Andrew,
The new RTs are awesome - I have the audiophile upgrade on order and I can't wait until it arrives.

Meanwhile, I think someone from PG mentioned previously that you were working on adding pushes, shots and holds to more of the older RTs. Will any of these be included with the 2010.5 RTs or will they be coming later?

Many thanks

Regards, Aubrey
Hi Aubrey,

There is indeed a new set of Shots and Holds in one of the installation files I downloaded here.

--Mac
Mac,

I downloaded one of the new RT sets. The RealTrack picker shows 93n under the Holds column. I assume this means it is supported but not installed. Where did you find the new set of Shots and Holds for download?

R
Thanks Mac,
Even more reason to be excited!

Regards, Aubrey
I don't know how they are included with all the different options. If you didn't get one of the two "full" upgrades.

The Install file I'm referring to is called, "realtracks_shots_holds_3.exe" on my disk.

Contact PGMusic Sales directly if you need to find out about this, that should be the fastest route, rather than waiting on a reply to this forum.

Have some of the previously released RealTracks (1-82) been updated in BIAB 2010.5? I am just downloading 83-101 since I already have 1-82.
Hi

i had the update for 1-82 real tracks with my downloads but it was the same as the file we had earlier in the year

regards Dave Hoskins
Hello Dave,

Almost all of the RealTracks were updated quite recently (May), so if you haven't downloaded the May RealTracks 1-82 update, you should get that. There haven't been any updates to 1-82 since then.
I have BIAB/RT 2009.5 with about 94 real tracks, coming from about 20 of the first 39 RT sets. If I do the $69 upgrade, it is not clear to me what additional real tracks I will be getting. It says I would get Pro RealCombos, (12 realtracks in 3 bands). I would upgrade, if I knew the additional tracks(instruments) were ones I could use, and don't already have.

Where can I find a description of what is contained in the Pro RealCombos I would get?

thanks
martin
Hi, Martin -

Why not give PGMusic a call (toll-free) and find out first hand. They will have a record of what you already have and so can explain what you get in terms of the different upgrade options.
I already have Biab 2010.5 with realtracks 1-82.

What is the cost for just the new realtracks?

Thanks
$99

(EDIT - this was a special deal until July 30 2010)
I have the audiophile version, but didn't want to spend the money this time so I bought just the jazz realtracks for $75. The shots and holds were included in the download.

However, I'm really disappointed because I mainly wanted the great sounding B3 organ realtracks, but have found that all have the organ bass included, so I can't add my favorite acoustic bass to the mix because they fight eachother. It's OK if you're a Jimmy Smith/Wes Montgomery fan (which I am, but can't stand organ bass, especially when I don't have to pay the added bass player)... so I think I wasted my money.

Mike
I didn't mean to sound so negative about my favorite computer program. I'm using the new organ realtracks on a few songs just for a little variety, and the new shots and holds that came with the jazz 4 pak were worth the upgrade (but I'll anxiously await the next upgrades).
Andrew
What is the GB total for the DVD Disks covering 83-101? My other 1-82 RTs were ordered with the upgrade Ultrapak 2010 therefore not the audiophile versions.

Thanks - Ian
Hello Ian,

It is around 18 GB.
Right now I'm using the Garritan Personal Orchestra with Band in a Box. Could you pls tell me if I should still buy RealTracks? Are there many differences?

My sincere thanks,

RealTracks are completely different than the Garritan Personal Orchestra. First, the GPO is a synthesizer that plays sampled sounds. RealTracks are recordings of musicians playing instruments, it isn't MIDI events triggering samples at all.

Actually, how is it that you're using GPO with Band-in-a-Box, since GPO has orchestral sounds and Band-in-a-Box styles are largely made up of non-orchestral sounds?

Also, any 2010 version of Band-in-a-Box includes at least some RealTracks, so the question is not IF, but how many RealTracks you want - For example, the UltraPlusPAK would come with ALL RealTracks instruments currently available whereas the Pro version only comes with a several different instruments. Or you can purchase individual sets or 'RealPAKs' of a particular genre.

If you have an older version of Band-in-a-Box, I suggest watching some of the RealTracks videos, and this will give you a better idea of what is possible with recent versions...

Andrew,

Bluegrass styles for BIAB

You may remember a discussion on this thread concerning whether bluegrass should be handled as 8th note based or 16th note based. Peter joined the discussion.

In reviewing the new features in 2010.5, it definitely sounds like the midi problem has been addressed, and maybe the real tracks problem has been addressed.
Quote:

 Styles can now be made that are set to use Half-Time and Double-Time RealTracks. For example, you can make a Jazz Ballad style (tempo 65) that uses a Sax Soloist at tempo 140 (playing double time). The StyleMaker- Misc-More dialog now has setting called TimeBase: Normal/HalfTime/DoubleTime for RealTracks.

 MIDI Styles can now be expanded or reduced. For example, if you have a Bluegrass style at a typical tempo of 130 that is 16ths note based, and you would prefer it as a style that is 8th note based at a typical tempo of 260, you can do this in the StyleMaker by selecting the menu item Style-Expand. Style-Reduce is available also for styles that you want to reduce from 8th notes to 16th notes.

The wording for the midi styles changes is very clear, but am I correct in assuming the following is also true concerning Real Tracks?

I'm still running 2009.5 because of a job loss, but if this is accurate as discussed in the previous forum listed above, I will definitely want to try to upgrade, at least by the 2011 version.

Thanks
Hello,

Yes, you can specify half-time or double-time for RealTracks in the StyleMaker. However it's not necessary for you do that in the Stylemaker - there is also a song setting.

To expand or reduce the MIDI instruments in the .STY though, you need to use the StyleMaker:

1. Ctrl+shift+F9 to edit the current style.
2. Style menu | reduce (or expand.
3. Save As, and type a name for your new style.

Hi Marvin,

Welcome to the forums If you want people to answer this, you'll get more responses if you create a new post in the BIAB forum rather than add this to an already existing post. Sorry, I can't help you either but I'm pretty sure that there are some people out there who can. It is unlikely that they will see your post here, though.

Good luck,
Noel
