I am using Omnysynth, and have changed a patch (MGU file Melody track) multiple times, but no matter which 'Save' buttons I save to, when I re-open the file, it is always back to the original patch. How can I save this patch change (using ST 2.x)

Part two - I also have Sampletank 3, 64-bit with jBridge. It loads fine, plays the included piano track. But I cannot "Load Legacy Sounds", the option is always grayed. Can I NOT use Omnisynth, does anyone know (I know this is not a BiaB issue, but hopefully somebody has experience with it...)

Thanks.

This was the subject of a long thread in the past month or so. I can't for the life of me find it. I swear the search feature on this forum does not work. But nevertheless,

It has been my experience that, No, you can not save the configuration of VSTs synths. But, I have to admit, I have not spent the hours it may take to really work this out. Something about saving a .tgs file??

My work flow of recent is to, get in and get out of BIAB as quickly as possible and make my music by playing myself,

Good Luck

Is it item 33: "VST selection not saved bug" on this post? that you are having issues with?

Hi Soundsmith, do you save the song in "save song as" and then save patches on that dialog box that pops up? on the second question, if is the free version no, you cannot save legacy sounds, that's one of the features that gets activated when you buy a full version.

Thanks guys. cubanpete, I had to check - yes it is the free version. Didn't remember... Thanks. And I don't remember a second dialog box. I do Save Song As first time, then Ctrl-S, and usually before I reload Sampletank. I'll try the other way and see if it helps.

I CAN reload the patch quickly, I have saved it in 2.x, but it still needs to be reloaded, thus far.

This may be the relevant thread.

At any rate, David, try this: Set up ST with the omnisynth sound you want on the melody track. In the VST/DX Synths/Plugins dialog, create a new .tgs preset after clicking Save Group. Save the song. It should now reload configured as you saved it.

Moreover, you can load the .tgs you just created for any track of any song, just by using the Load Group button in the VST/DX Synths/Plugins dialog.

As mentioned in the other thread, you should be able to use this technique with any VSTi, or, for even greater convenience/flexibility, store the .tgs in a modified style with which you may be working extensively. I haven't tested those ideas though (which is why I'm reluctant to post in the tips forum).

Ron, thanks, It WORKED! Unbelievable! cool

I just can't keep track of all the extensions BiaB and RB use (.tgs? never noticed it...)

The relevant post WAS VST not saved, I'll see if this helps.

Thanks again.

Ron,

Most excellent!
I am going to migrate your guide to RealBand.
Have not had Any success with VSTi settings being saved
On UserTracks. My memory(me) is ok, but after hundreds
Of setups, Ya lose it.

Thanks for excellent posting.

Ron, this is very interesting and exactly what I'm looking for to use in RB. Have a few questions:
1. Will this work with multiple VSTi's i.e. different VSTi's assigned to different tracks (for example SampleTank and Kontakt)
2. Will this work for Dxi's (Forte, TTS-1)

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately, no. This was the big question I was asking the OP in the thread I linked above, and I got the impression that one group save did apply to all tracks, but no, not in my hands. (I've been testing with Dimension Pro, SampleTank, and TTS-1, BB only, latest build.) The .tgs preset that gets saved is configured according to whichever track is selected at that moment. You can later load that same preset for any other track, but that would have more utility for the audio plugins than for the instruments. One thing you could do is configure a new song, say MyTemplate.sgu, with each track assigned to whatever VSTi or DXi you want, and use that as a template to load a desired combination of plugins in one shot. But only for a new song. If we want to try out an alternate set of plugins on work in progress, we gotta load the .tgs files track by track AFAIK.

BTW, for Dimension Pro and ST, at least, the .tgs does "remember" whatever sound you had loaded. No need to use the "preset" or "bank" buttons. Dim Pro does seem to forget the *name* of the .prog, though, and maybe it's just loading the proper sound because it's the last one I used. (Been a while since I explored DimPro. I'd guess the preset buttons would come into play here, but I haven't explored those.)

I'd be just as interested as Jeff to learn if anyone has figured out how to load different instruments to multiple tracks in one shot.

Yup. At least, works for TTS-1. That's my default synth, so it must be stored in
DefaultDXiSynth.tgs.

What I'm finding Ron, using RB and not BIAB, it that Vsti's save very well but not Dxi's.

A note for the following examples: in the MIDI setup panel in RB, I have not checked "Reroute MIDI playback to default DXi/VSTi synth".

What I am finding is using VSTi's I can load different patches to different tracks, do a "SAVE AS" for the song and all patches are saved with their respective tracks upon reopen. With jBridge, it makes no difference if the VSTi's are 32 bit or 64 bit or mixed as below.

As an example, using Kontakt x64, I can load 2-3 different patches to different tracks, then using SampleTank x32, in the same song, load another couple of SampleTank sounds to other tracks, do a "Save All" and all patches are saved to the correct tracks. No .tgs needed. Again, this is in RB not BIAB.

I've even pushed it using multiple VSTi's, RealTracks and my external HW synths...no problem...everything saves fine with "Save As" commend.

This, however, is not the case using DXi's. Using DXi's I find that I have to make up the required .tgs file to save the track patches. Even then, it's hit and miss at times with the DXi's.

So, don't know which DXi's you have, such as CoyoteWT, ForteDXi, TTS-1 or others, but if you want to save multiple sounds to multiple tracks try using VSTi's and RB. Just remember to uncheck the "Reroute Midi playback...." box in the RB MIDI setup.

Thx Jeff, guess I misunderstood the question. Yes, no problem about saving different VSTi's with the song. I thought the question was whether there's a way to make a *single* preset (other than the song itself) for instant loading of VSTi combos. Wishful thinking on my part.

Will look into the DXi issue if time permits. Not a big issue for me, since the endpoint sounds become a priority only after transfer to DAW (Sonar, not RB). -Ron
