Dr. Gannon,

Thank you and Tobin for the videos. There has been a lot of feedback in the forum for new features for 2022 videos.

At 1:00:04 the first video is rather long. Is there any chance that chapter markers can be added to the video description? That way if a user wants to learn about a specific feature they can quickly locate and access the video information specific to the feature.
+1 chapter markers
Yes, we will add a table of contents with YouTube links to the relevant sections.
Cool. +1 for chapter links.

I’ve found the most helpful way to learn the new features is the videos. That’s not as obvious as it appears, since my normal learning method
is:
1. Fool with it
2. Read the manual
3. Look at a video

Excellent!

Thank you!
Yes, chapter markers are added, see the top of this thread.
Thanks Peter, Tobin and team. Excellent and educational.
Dr.Gannon,

Once again thanks for the videos and for adding the chapter markers.
I have to add my thanks as well. What an amazing job explaining features. Not sure how many users are thinking "down the road" so to speak, but what some of these awesome features will allow: easily creating "User Tracks".

I'm excited! smile

Thanks again!
everyone of those features are important to the workflow. To me the new Riff, the all tracks equal, and the edit automation stand out. Followed by the micro chords, Motifs, and Stems. By adding chapter markers allow newer users to rewatch easy.
I look forward to how to adapt BIAB VST 4.0 to complete the basic operation video and advanced video of a song
Great tutorials.
It would be fantastic if other tutorials could be made in this way for the whole of the bb manual covering each subject of the manual with real life scenarios.
A lot of work but wow..i think i could actually learn how to use all the bb features and know what i was doing blush.

Here, here! smile
Useful, thank you!

I followed along with Tobin until he added a note at 13:46. He didn't say how he selected pencil (but I worked it out by trial and error). However, the note I added was silent unlike his (I had selected playable RTs and it was outlined in green). Same happened with the Fission Demo. I selected the chords and made them playable (they went green) but remained silent when either played or edited. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rec
It sounds like you have not set up the HiQ Synth. No sounds unless that is working.
Thanks for the suggestion Dan.

Funnily enough after upgrading (from 2019 to 2022) I found that the Hi-Q option wasn't working so I had to run the hiq_instruments_sforzando.exe file to reinstate them. They are working Ok now as far as I can tell; I can replace a standard MIDI instrument with a Hi-Q one and it plays.

So I am still a bit puzzled.
OK, I saw all the chatter about this item in threads and figured I would take a shot. Can't say I have gotten to where you are yet. But you trail blazers should have this sused out soon. grin

Re: 2022.
well what a great week.
my team west ham united won in europe then beat chelsea
satday 3-2. THEN i'm looking at the vids for 2022...
and gotta say IMPRESSIVE.
playable real traks + micro chords...WOW !
and 24 traks...HALLELUJAH...!
yep gonna upgrade in next week.

got a couple of q's.
1. is it possible to play my geetar on a trak , THEN
plug in a audio to midi plug in ...that creates the midi
notes to play the real trak geetar.?
reason..i dont like futzing around with piano roll at length.
maybe pg coders could think of a way of automating the process...ie i record geetar trak, press a button and rt trak created which i can then clean up.
2. if i order the 90 buk pro upgrade on pen drive ....how do i get all the new rt's in last couple of years ?
so i can upgrade my 2020 ultrapak. cos i dont wanna buy
a bunch of rt's ive already got for 2020 and years before that...dont make sense to rebuy stuff ive already got.

best
ome
ps would have liked more realband stuff.."please sir".

1. The Audio Editor has an editing feature called "Transcribe" that will transcribe a monophonic audio track to MIDI notation. Key point is the transcribe feature works best with monophonic audio.

2. Get the PlusPAK. That has all the new for 2022 content. Once you've installed it use the "What Add-Ons Do I Have?" to discover what content you've missed.
Posted By: justanoldmuso Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/05/21 08:06 PM
Jim Fogle
thanks.
re point 2 the plus pak.
according to the details plus pak is for 2021 ultrapak
users. i'm on 2020 ultrapak. will it still work ?
it seems silly to buy the 2022 ultrapak and rebuy a ton of stuff i already have in 2020.

merry xmas.

It can be painful and costly to miss the annual updates and then try to catch up. Been there and done that.
Posted By: Jim Fogle Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/05/21 10:08 PM
The 2022 PlusPAK works because it gives you the package content introduced in 2022.

However, you will not have content introduced in 2021 as well as the bonus content from 2021 and 2022.

I liked this excellent, informative tutorial, and really appreciate that there was very little distracting, superflorus background music, as there is in many other BIAB videos... great work PGM.

Absolutely well put together and explained. This should especially allow users to become familiar with the new features with minimal effort. Outstanding.

After watching the video, I have to say this is the most excited I've been about a BiaB release in years, maybe ever. Ordinarily, I focus on the Real Tracks and judge the new release based heavily on my impressions of them. This has been particularly true in the years that the new features seem to be incremental improvements or tweaks to things I never use. This release blows me away and offers some features many of us have wanted for years. PG seems to have really knocked this one out of the park!

For me, Micro Chords are a game changer. My pet peeve with BiaB has always been that I was chained at the ankle to quarter note changes. No more. This also effectively eliminates the need for the push in entering chords. You can now change the chord wherever you want it to change, rather than being tied to what the program generates. Ditto with the motif feature. These two used in combination expands a world of creative possibilities and takes an already powerful program to the next level.

I never even considered volume automation within the program itself. Mainly because, BiaB was so far behind in some basic features over the years, that it seemed the least of my worries. I always created my own using my DAW's automation lanes anyway, but this is an excellent addition and gives the user a high level of control. Hopefully, new releases will see other parameters become editable as well.

Playable RealTracks is a welcome addition too. So often, I generate a section for a solo or something and it's "almost" right. I've sometimes used my DAW's editing tools to change a note here or there, and even Melodyne. But to go into the piano roll and replace the notes generated from BiaB? That's very useful and should yield a more organic sound, that theoretically wouldn't produce artifacts.

I'm looking forward to the Drum Stems discussion in part 2.

So one question I have is about backwards compatibility. Do these features work on older Real Tracks sets as well, or only for those included with 2022 and beyond? Can any track become a Playable Real Track for example? Even those from old sets? Will Micro Chords entry work on all sets? Can I automate volume on RT's from say 2012 or 2015? Or, as I said, it only available for certain sets? Ditto for the stems feature. Will it be available for all past drums sets, or just new ones?

I haven't downloaded it yet. I probably will tomorrow, but I'll close with an additional question I didn't see covered in the video. Does Micro Chords entry support all the basic chord entry options, such as shots and holds, etc? I noticed you can separate the notes with commas, as in regular chord entry but it would be awesome if you could accent a note with a shot or whatever.

So one question I have is about backwards compatibility.

>Do these features work on older Real Tracks sets as well, or only for those included with 2022 and beyond?

Yes, The micro chords, multi riff, motifs, work on all RealTracks, including the old ones.

>Can any track become a Playable Real Track for example? Even those from old sets?

We are in the process of adding more of them, with the goal of having all of them be playable rt. We have all the material, it’s just a question of time as we add them. There are 400 now, and many of those work on multiple RealTracks since the same instrument was used.

>Will Micro Chords entry work on all sets?
Yes, as above.

Can I automate volume on RT's from say 2012 or 2015?
Yes.

>Or, as I said, it only available for certain sets?

>Ditto for the stems feature. Will it be available for all past drums sets, or just new ones?
_ we have the source material for the RealDrums, and it takes time to make the stems. But yes, we plan on making all the RealDrums available as stems. Right now we have 40 of them as stems.

Thanks for that clarification, Peter. That will help us to assist what are expected to be popular questions from many users.
Posted By: Navid Syed Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/07/21 11:21 AM
Question: is it possible to add your own notes in RealTrack using a MIDI keyboard or it can only be done using mouse in step sequencer fashion?
Posted By: swingbabymix Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/07/21 11:48 AM
Question:

How many official styles are there now? I mean those displayed on the stylepicker page
Posted By: Rustyspoon# Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/07/21 06:32 PM

Finally watched it completely, even parts that of less interest.
Tobin, well done!

What Tobin mentioned about micro chord showing up at 42:09 "would like to see those myself..."

Thank you for the prompt reply. It is very much appreciated. It's awesome that these features are either already backward compatible or that there are plans to make all the previous sets work with the new features. I downloaded my copy today. I also have to give a big thumbs up to the new download manager as well. Not the sexiest feature unless you've done it all manually in past years. Overall, the best release to come along since the introduction of RealTracks themselves.

Best Video I have seen so far I think. More informative and relatively digestable.

Thank You

Great video!

Actually, the new track settings window is, with multiriffs, my favourite new feature from 2022. It allows you to concentrate on making music, rather than searching through menus and menus. Giant steps in the right direction!

Great job on the drum stems!
Posted By: Gordon Scott Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/09/21 03:37 PM
Watching the pt2 video, I've realised that, because some styles will use the utility tracks, loading a new style could/would set a utility track up with a new instrument/musician, presumably ousting whatever was there before, which could be a track of my own. (Sorry, I'm on a Linux at the moment without my Wine install so I have no place to try this).

The obvious question is, Is there a way to stop that happening or warn about it, and/or is there a best practices way to avoid it (using the higher number tracks for my own stuff is an obvious candidate)?

Heh ... there's a Dilbert I love:
If "Best Practices" is what everyone is doing, then it's the same as mediocre.
Posted By: PeterGannon Re: re 2022 vids etc - 12/14/21 12:32 PM
Gordon.
Freezing a track prevents the styles from using it.
