Will a Sennheiser 815s (Dynamic Mic) require phantom power when connecting to the input on a laptop?

Will the laptop pre-amp power it?

Not sure if you understand the difference between dynamic and condenser mics so I posted the link above. In any case you won't get good results with either type mic hooking it up the way you describe.

Get a preamp either from a small mixer or from a standalone such as an Art Tube Pac (or any of the various others).

Dynamic mics do not require phantom power. However, the mic input amp on your laptop will not power it either. Your standalone recorder that you have shown as your avatar likely has a mic pre-amp built in that you could use as long as it passes audio back out as if it was a stand-alone mixer.

BTW, mic is for an online friend query Their PC is down and they are using a new laptop with Vista to record with. Their PC had a SB Card and the mic worked fine with it.
