First of all, I want to make clear that this song is
NOT autobiographical!

The Note (2023, Dave Bell)
I stayed out late last night, like I often do
drinking whisky, shooting pool, hangin' with my crew
Took the back roads home, movin' nice and slow
can't afford to get stopped, in case the cops show
Stumble through the door, with an aching head
didn't stop for nothing, headed straight to bed
Chorus1:
That's when I saw the note, that she wrote
she said I'm leaving you now, I can't take it no more
I gave you my best, but now I'm done
time to start a new life, I don't love you no more
I took for granted, all the little things,
The laughter, the love, and the joy she used to bring
But now that she's gone, I see the light,
it's too late for me now, to make things right
I didn't know what I had, and now it's gone
she left me with nothing, but this song
Chorus2:
I try to forget, but I can't let go
I keep on thinkin', 'bout the love we used to know
she said I'm leaving you now, I can't take it no more
time to start a new life, I don't love you no more
outro vamp: I don't love you no more
All comments welcome!
BlueAttitude team,
Ha! Always being late for the show, finally, I am the first to comment!
Smooth tune. Good lyrics and rhyme. Smokey vocals. Excellent guitar and bass! Percussion worked very well. You should do more of that. Clear mix and listens very well. Good job on video!
Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Dave.
You have that JJ Cale voice again.
I like that.
Have you thought of changing the title to "I don't love you no more"?
To me, it stands out.
Vic
The vocal REALLY matches the narrative.
Cool band and the Dave/Marty parts hold it together wonderfully.
I like the title...the note being the launching pad for the reflections of the narrator.
Stinging lead - love it.
Dave,
A Strong write. (might be your best)
Smokin' guitar.
Buttery Bass!!
COOOOL smooth groove.
COOOOL vocal.
Excellent mix.
Superb Listening.
Strong.

Nice groove and mix! Cool back track and guitar work!

Dave
Some really lovely melodic playing, a good evocative vocal and Marty laying down an excellent bass.
Really good work all round. Great song.
Peter
Dave, that is some great playing with a perfect tone dialed in. Really good expressive vocal. Marty’s bass is in the pocket and the whole production is up to your usual high standards. Well crafted lyrics, Tom
You guys are a great team.
To me your vocals have a vibe similar to Stephen Stills in his later works.
A sad story but such is life sometimes.
Hey guys,
Really great song!
Excellent groove, playing and vocals with a real Santana vibe!
Nice!

Great to see you, Misha!
As far as the percussion goes, I agree. The percussion library included with EZDrummer3 sounds quite a bit better than what came with EZDrummer2, so I'll definitely use it more often in the future.
Thanks for your comments, and thanks for checking out the video!
loved the 'mood' of this song. nice lyrics.
that clean guitar tone you have on one side of the stereo image i really liked.
for some reason i hear the main lead gtr breaks 'doubled'.
but thats just me.

I think this is my new favorite of yours, great lyrics, great vocals, well sung, well produced.
Great work from all involved!
First of all, I want to make clear that this song is NOT autobiographical!
Yep, we all believe you
So you say this song isn't about you and yet I would bet with a delivery like that you almost feel like it did. Talk about convincing!
To me, this is one of those songs that gives the listener an experience that makes them thankful it didn't actually happen...but leaves you with the memory of something that never actually was.
Of course everything else is on the highest bar, I expect that from your work.
Great song. It left me with the feeling of loss, then brought me the feeling of gratefulness for what I have. Thank you for creating that for me!
Dave.

Vic
Hey Vic,
Yes, I did consider that for the title but I liked the simplicity of "The Note" better.
Big J.J. Cale fan here! I love his music, also his approach to guitar as well, just playing what the song needs, nothing more.
Thanks for the listen!

Thanks so much, floyd, means a lot coming from you!
The Blue Attitude band, this should be on the radio today!
This is pro all the way.
Love that groove!
Outstanding vocal and guitar, as usual.
The bass is in the pocket, as usual.
The mix is perfect, as usual.
I think this is your best one yet!
Spot on everything - the weary vocal, the bluesy guitar... it all works.
Nice job on this!
BlueAttitude,
I think rayc has the right of it . . . that vocal matches the mood of the narrative . . . just a perfect fit and it sits wonderfully in the mix. All aspects of the production are top notch . . . and that solo just slays. Somewhat agree with Vic about the title of the song—“I Don’t Love You No More” might be a bit more recognizable if someone is searching for the tune. Geez, this is smoking stuff! Outstanding piece of work, folks!
My best to you all,
Deej
Boy when you take the lead do you give me a Chris Rea vibe. He is one of my favorite artists. Excellent lyric. Loved the melody in the guitar break. Marty's bass glued the song together. Well done... Cool video

Hey Tom, I'm still using S-Gear here, been using it ever since you turned me onto it a few years back. Thanks!

We have fun working on these songs together, that's the key I think. Thanks for giving our song a listen and for your feedback, very much appreciated!

Perfect example of a blues song: sad story with lost love and whiskey, crying guitar (probably your best performance I've heard), crooning voice. And all that is packed in an excellent arrangement and clean mix.
Janne
Good stuff! Hypnotic and beautiful!

Thanks very much for stopping by, Aaron, and great to see you here! You have been missed. Would love to hear a new song from you one of these days!
Good one, Dave, on your vocals and your guitar! Janice said that she could feel the guy’s heartache and regret crying out from your guitar.
The lyric has really good imagery even before seeing the fine video of the song.
Great mix all the way around.
And that bass man ... yeah!
Enjoyed it!

Hi Dave and Marty
Fantastic song
Everything fits together here
But your singing fits really perfect to this song
And your guitar work is a blast
Many greetings

Thanks, Mario!

Nice job on this!
I thought for sure you would give me grief for using so many double negatives in the lyric
Thanks, David!
Your vocal is perfect for this. Your performance is convincing as if you had actually lived it.
Your guitar work is exceptional as is Marty's bass. Loved the solo!

Hi Dave,
A beautiful song and as been said before I heard JJ Cale right away. Beautiful vocals, smoky and mysterious in a way.
I do like your voice. You have to sing more in your songs, or maybe a duett with Chris?
In Dutch I would call it "een heerlijk lied", but in English you have to say lovely. Like our words more in this case...
And of course I want to know which part in it isn't autobiographical?
Have a nice day,
Hans

Hi Hans,
Well, I have a very limited range, and don't have the ability to belt out a song like a real singer, such as yourself, can. So, I can sing the laid back tunes but that's about it
As far as which part isn't autobiographical, I was a party guy just like the guy in the song, more than 40 years ago mind you, but that was when I was still single
Getting married and having a daughter changed all that.
Thanks for the nice review!
Dave...you and Marty are the Kings of the blues as far as I'm concerned...IMHO this is one of your best...from the tightness of the performances to the quality of the mix you've hit the nail right on the head! Great job guys!
