Hi All,

Here's something new... The mix is a bit unpolished, but I think it sounds better that way.

This is called Sweet Jane Tonight.

Chelsea streets are lonely
In the city of shattered dreams
Old Queens still run the rails
While the subway spits and screams

Oh Sweet Jane
Can’t recognize your face
But I hear your voice tonight
Coming through this place
Oh Sweet Jane
Like a shadow in a ditch
Once a Gaslight dream
Now a ghost over Greenwich

Politicians make promises
But their words twist like a maze
Big money runs the world
And leaves everyone in a haze

Oh Sweet Jane
Can’t recognize your face
But I hear your voice tonight
Coming through this place
Oh Sweet Jane
Like a shadow in a ditch
Once a Gaslight dream
Now a ghost over Greenwich

The world is tumbling out of control
And we need some rhymes to make us whole
Oh Sweet Jane won’t you save us all
From the darkness and the night that falls

Oh Sweet Jane
Can’t recognize your face
But I hear your voice tonight
Coming through this place
Oh Sweet Jane
Like a shadow in a ditch
Once a Gaslight dream
Now a ghost over Greenwich

My band used to jam on a song called Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground

I like this it's sort of a homage to that punk style

Hey Bob, nice vocal work.
I enjoyed this.

I got a strong Dylan vibe on this one and that is a good thing!
You did a good job on the vocals and mix.

I liked this one very much.

As Mario says, the Dylan vibe is strong here. BRILLIANT song. Lyrics, writing, performance - the lot. Serious congratulations to you.

It was hard not to meet this song with expectations of a velour subway. Indeed, the 1st two chords tease towards it as does the tempo & groove.
It's a very cool sketch of urban & relationship decay.
Yes, the mix works well.

Bob,

I don't know why, but when I heard this I felt like I was rushing on my run.

Fo some strange reason I felt just like Jesus' son.

Cuz it made me feel just like a man.

And I wanted to put a spike into my vein.

And try for the kingdom if I can.

And I felt like I was born a thousand years ago.

On a great big clipper ship.

And I sailed from this land here to that.

With a sailor's suit and cap.

Why do you think that was, Bob??????

smile

This was such an awesome song man and it took me all the way back to the day, but then I got stuck in the day and I can't get out of the day how do I get out of the Greenwich village now.

This guy is standing next to me in a ridiculous blond wig asking me to go to a party.

Should I go???

(...okay, got it. It's not about Floyd grin...)

Normally not my cup of tea, but for some reason I like this song.
A lot!
I think that its raw character works very well.

Hi Bob,

In some way this song sounds familiair, but I can't get my hand on what band played something similair to your chord.
It's a very nice melody and so are the lyrics. Of course, I have to say, because the majority of your lyrics and melodies are great.
And the way you sing it is very good. I thought the vocals sounded a bit unstable, but that was 'wrong thinking'; they made the emotions in this song sound so realistic.

Another good song, Bob!

Yes, Bob, I prefer unpolished. This is really an engaging sound. I'm with Elliott on his comment. Played the Velvet one, and this one seems like a fun one to play, too. Dug the lyrics.

Bob,

This is excellent. I love the so-called rawness of this . . . brings gravity to the tune. The write is among your best, which is saying something as all your writes are stellar. Like Elliott for me this has hint of punk . . .is there such a genre as acoustic punk? Really, a wonderful tune Bob . . . Outstanding!

My best to you,

Deej

Bob,
Always a pleasure to hear that raw authenticity you bring to your compelling urban tales.
Sure, we can hear some Lou Reed and a hint of Dylan, but this is pure Robert Dean and I love it!

Bob,
Good set of lyrics well delivered. I see why you would want to leave mix unpolished. Sounds live. Thank you for sharing.

Each verse is a gem but then so is the chorus.

Janice said she got the same vivid imagery of NY as she does when reading the words of author Pete Hamill. Your vocal delivers the melancholy message so well too.

The mix is just fine (great snare pop) and we felt like we were in a small club listening to the band.

We’ll stay for your whole set, Bob!

I like unpolished, I like the sparse, simple instrumentation.

Your lyrics are poetry.
