Hi All,

Here's my take on a Daniel Lanois / Malcolm Burn style of production. Lots of delays, overlapping loops, distant & heavily saturated drums and sonic atmosphere. I've had this one sitting around for a while and thought it was time to set it free. smile

This is called Picasso Painted Horses.

Picasso painted horses
Dancing in the rain
I was dreaming you were calling
From a meadow deep in Spain
You were covered by a windstorm
You were held back by the beauty and the raging force
And you knew you could not catch the horse

You were looking like a shadow
Outside the bedroom door
I was dreaming you were flying
Like a hawk I watched you soar
You were searching for the pony
You were looking in every barn and river source
And you gave up and could not find the horse

Picasso painted horses
Now ghosts upon the wall
I was dreaming you were watching
When the summer turned to fall
You were writing me a letter
You were asking if I felt such great remorse
And I did when I finally lost the horse
Picasso painted horses

Bob,

LOVE the write! (you are a talent)
Love the musical "experimentation".
Cool drums.
I'm hearing this as somewhat mid-heavy (that might be MY problem - I've said that a couple of different times today in threads by others). Might be nice to have some high-end (treble-y) synth or guitar licks to balance things?
That's a minor thing. I dig this.

Bob I agree with fj, this is great stuff, so much to listen to.
I hear a little bit of Bob Dylan in your vocals, definately a good thing.

One tiny, tiny nit of a suggestion:

"You were asking if I felt such great remorse"

Great job.

Floyd,

Thanks. I appreciate the kind words.

That's a great suggestion.

Bob ...

You are a word magician. You could write the nutritional content (or lack thereof) on the back of a frozen dinner I didn't like and convince me to buy a dozen of them.

This is so different from your "regular" fare. I truly like it! Every one of your songs has a special touch. This one has many.

What a treat!

Bob, absolutely an outstanding song.
This is something that Dylan could have written back in the 60's.
Loved your vocal and lyrics!
What a great backing band and arrangement you have going in this song.
I loved everything about this one.

The title made me curious, but I had no idea what to expect.
Different in a very positive way.
Enjoyed the listen.
A lot!

Bob...I think your musical arrangement and production are a perfect match to your lyrical composition...your vocal is compelling...yeah, this could easily be a Dylan write...love the percussion and distorted guitar work...interesting, different and way cool! Dan

The crunchy drums took some getting used to against the clean vocal & guitar but it works.
The outro had some cool VU in it.
Another fabulous lyric as sound poem.
Very cool.

Your lyrics are always so good, Bob. I was drawn in by the title and rewarded quite well. What an interesting song so well written and performed. A highly successful experiment in my ears, sir.

I'm not familiar with the style. It's no doubt an acquired taste. wink

As usual, the write and vocals are exceptional.

Cool stuff! smile

Lyrically beautiful and interesting story with a captivating title and a dreamy landscape.
The nicely effected band supports that mysterious mood, the distorted drums paint a lovely mosaic.
Enjoyed your vocals. Very creative and artistic work.
(Seems like that picking guitar is missing from the instrument list)

Janne,

Thanks so much.

Good catch on the guitar. I have added that track to the list.

Wonderful lyrics, beautiful imagery.
I don't think this song needs such a full production. I appreciate what you did with it, but I feel your backing tracks diminished the essence and beauty of the poetry.

The power of your lyrics and melody with a simple supporting guitar with perhaps a small string quartet backing track would work beautifully.

Either way it's wonderful.

Love that lyric write, Bob.
Maybe a little heavy on the instruments but could be eq'd if you wanted to lighten it a tad.
Thumbs up from me.

You nailed the Daniel Lanois vibe, Bob.

The imagery in your lyric is always so vivid and with this treatment Janice said she feels like the scenes are viewed through a thick mist. smile

These lines really jumped out at us:

“You were looking like a shadow
Outside the bedroom door
I was dreaming you were flying
Like a hawk I watched you soar”

Nice dreamy vibe presented with fine vocals and mix!

Experimental productions are a bit like stepping off a cliff for us ... you did an excellent job with it.
