I rather like the theory that we were never kicked out of Eden; we just lost the ability to recognize it. Many people I know thoroughly enjoy, and in fact, require an occasional walk in the woods. Getting back to nature.

RayC, who played bass on my last reggae song, put me on the right path for this walk. He brilliantly rephrased the KISS suggestion. “It's all about the blank spaces.”

Walking In The Garden

Walking in the garden always takes away the blues.
just strolling through the plants and trees.
All the troubles seem quite taken with the stuff they call the news and fly off in a quiet breeze.
Under the shade of God's green canopy we breathe a breath of joy, and grow to fight another day.

Walking in the garden lifts the weight right off the world.
The birds all sing while time stands still.
When the cool dawn turns to morning all the wind begins to swirl. The Sun will soon replace night's chill.
All of the time we spend enjoying life with nature everywhere
will help us fight another day.

So when the masses turn their backs from the calmness of the creek remember where we all came from.
So when you know that someone needs you,
don't turn the other cheek.
Just take the walk and do what needs done.

Walking in the garden we can see the flowing stream.
While drinking in the air, we smile.
Even clouds add to the wonder. How well they fit this dream. Nature makes it all worthwhile.
Under the shade of God's green canopy we breathe a breath of joy, and live to fight another day.

Marty,

This is excellent - one of your very best vocals. Love the song and production. Dave's guitar shines.

I really like what you are doing these days... Great music!

Great song! "Perhaps we were never kicked out of Eden; we just lost the ability to recognize it." Bang on! smile

I hope you enjoyed your walk Marty. You sound like you did.
I agree it's one of your best vocals.

Marty, when you and Dave team up I know the song is going to be a killer of a song!
Again you proved me correct.
Great Reggae groove.
Great vocal and lyrics.
Outstanding lead guitar as usual.
This sounds great, keep up the excellent song writing.

You nailed the bass Marty.
Is it slightly to the left?
A particularly good vocal - clear and forward.
Dave did what he does - excellent filigree and sting solo.
Nice narrative - a touch of therapy in the current maelstrom.
Ace mix.

The song starts out with a screaming lead, and I immediately think "This is going to be fun."

That's the bluesiestj Reggae I've ever heard!

Fun listen, all right! laugh

Well, THAT was a lot of fun. Definitely a pleasing fusion of styles. All the playing is perfectly suited to the tune. Loved the guitar tone. The theme really resonates with me. Lots of cool hiking trails in my area, I hit them every chance I get, but less than I want.

This has a great reggae groove with blues guitar, well sung with cool lyrics and a masterful production. What’s not to like? I spend a lot of time outdoors so I relate closely with the lyrics. Very much enjoyed my listen, Tom

Thanks, Bob. For almost a couple decades I just used BiaB for learning and writing songs for others to do, and my demos carelessly sucked. Now I actually practice the vocals. hehe You folks on the forum rasied the bar. Still, my songs could be done so much better by others.

These old legs are starting to give out. Although I still love walking, I now do most of it on my bass. Thanks, Vic!

"Perhaps we were never kicked out of Eden".
Yep, I 100% agree!

I enjoyed your walk through the garden, excellent work by all 3 of you.
As a matter of taste, I would personally prefer more reggae-like guitar work, but it works the way you've arranged it, so it's all good.

Marty and all:

Terrific reggae tune with a cool message. Dave just slays that guitar . . . and all the other production elements fit seamlessly. Wonderful collaboration—well done!

Hope all is well in your world,

Deej

Thanks, Ray. Unless I messed up, the bass should be centered. Thanks so much for all your help.

Thanks, David. We both did our own version of reggae, which of course comes out Blue.

We are definitely some of those friends who require daily walks or bike rides in the woods.
As Janice says, being in nature is good for our body, mind, heart and soul!

What a cool reggae blues, Marty, and Dave’s guitar is cooking and his fills supported so well the “smiles” in the lyric. smile
Wrapped up a nice mix too.

Your vocals and bass are excellent and you sound like you truly enjoyed this groove.
We've done several reggae tunes, and man, is that ever a different vibe to sing over and play on!

We also love the scenes in the video and are now wishing we were in one of those magnificent settings.

Marty (and Dave)...what a great team you guys are...it doesn't matter the style or genre, the tempo or the timbre you guys nailed it down every time! I love the message of this song...Adam and Eve should have sung this one and if they had it might have kept them out of trouble...as many have mentioned the reggae vibe along with Dave's cool blues created a great mixture to consume for us listeners...the positive lyrics are as refreshing as a walk in the park...there is a lake near where I live and I try to get out there as much as possible to walk and pray and reflect so I love the lines...

"All the troubles seem quite taken with the stuff they call the news and fly off in a quiet breeze.
Under the shade of God's green canopy we breathe a breath of joy, and grow to fight another day."

As I said you nailed it...Dan

Thanks much, Tom. We can't help --no, we won't help-- playing Blues in every song.

Thanks, Brain. I appreciate what you're saying about a particular genre usually dictating taste, but even my bass line is way outside the reggae box. I find it best not to direct Dave because what he ends up playing is far better than I could've imagined. Every time.

Hi Marty and Dave.

This is very creative music making. I love the uplifting feel that reggae styles bring to arrangements.
My favourite line was "Under the shade of God's green canopy we breathe a breath of joy, and grow to fight another day". That's great wordsmith work!
These lyrics and this uplifting music express a really great sentiment in a very entertaining way.
What I love about BIAB is the ability to explore so many different styles and to create hybrid styles.

This was really enjoyable.

Thanks, Dan. Yep, whatever style there is always room for some Blues. Gethsemane is a garden, too. It's all good.

Beautiful positive message carried by the gently bouncing reggae rhythm. Outside today on my walk, winter felt really approaching, wind was quite cold and the birds were not singing anymore, but thanks to your song, I had a chance to enjoy also a warm walk in God's garden.
The chorus melody and chord progression are especially enjoyable. Good performance and Dave plays like an angel of Eden (maybe the sound of his guitar is sometimes bit raw for the smooth mood). The organ and the steel drums add nicely to the feel.

Thank you very much, Noel. You're right about exploring styles. Sometimes I end up with 5 different versions of a song before it's done. So glad you like this one.
