Ain't Misbehavin'

Hi Folks,

Here is my version of the Fats Waller classic.

"Ain't Misbehavin'" is a 1929 stride jazz/early swing song. Andy Razaf wrote the lyrics to a score by Thomas "Fats" Waller and Harry Brooks[2] for the Broadway musical comedy play Connie's Hot Chocolates.

Vocals: Nigel Spiers
Piano: 3484
Bass: 397
Drums: Gypsy Jazz Sw
Banjo: 1789
Trumpet: 441

I've long had a soft spot for this classic.
Lovely rendition. The solo REALLY sits well.
Bits of the melody and style seemed to have been lifted by Eddie Cantor numerous times.
A fabulous song & even a Bill Hayley treatment didn't dent it's charm.
REALLY nice version Nigel. well done.

Nigel,

Terrific rendition of this great tune . . . fun listen, nicely arranged, sung and mixed. The trumpet solo sounds great. Nice job on this one!

All my best to you,

Deej

Really nicely done, and it sounded like you were having fun. The soloists sounded like they were in the right song, which isn't always the case. So WELL DONE...I enjoyed it!

Great song. Nice version - not trying to reinvent the wheel - enjoying and respecting the era.

Not my kind of music and yet it immediately puts me in a good mood, so you've done everything right.
And, your voice is PERFECT for this music, great vocal performance.
Well done!

Nigel,

It's a very famous song in Japan too, so I've listened to many versions so far.
Your version is also relaxed and very nice.
The choice of instruments is also really perfect for this song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Brilliant. As usual, with your songs and performances, I'm left with a smile on my face, afterwards. Your "vocal smile" makes itself felt in the way you sing. Wonderful.

Very cool, Nigel. You even make it sound like an old-style recording mixed with amazing new technology. I really dig how you added a bit of Dean Martin to your vocal --you know, that fake drunk guy thing. Really well done all around. It's a fine tribute to all dem cats that came before us.

Hi Nigel,

I just read what Marty wrote about you and your performance. Well, he mowed the grass at my feet, if you also use that expression. Except for the cats...
You captured that old style very good. Especially your vocals are shining! It sounds like you really had fun singing this way. Like that!
And your horns are so bright, like I'm standing in the same space. I used horns/trumpets in one of my song lately, but never came close to this sound.

Well done, Nigel,
Hans

What a delight! Your vocal fits so well and the piano is nice and light.
We loved the little vocal tip of the hat to Armstrong just before the trumpet solo.

Good one!
