I started this by making some backing tracks to practice a little flat

picking. Then I stumbled across some great sounding mandolin

loops so I massaged them and married them to some real tracks,

wrote some lyrics and came up with this. I appreciate any and all

comments, Tom

Go Ahead And Break My Heart

I’ve got a real bad habit of falling in love

Sneaks up on me and happens all the time

I get all worked up just to be let down

A stolen heart a victim of a crime

I won’t hold you to it but you said you would do it

You’d fall in love and then we’d fall apart

So give it all you got give it your best shot

Then Go ahead and break my heart

I won’t hold you to it but you said you would do it

You’d fall in love and then we’d fall apart

So give it all you got give it your best shot

Then Go ahead and break my heart

I’ve made my mistakes I know what it takes

to get up and try it one more time

No I won’t give up I think I’m way too tough

To walk away and leave it all behind

I don’t give up on love I give it a chance

I’m not afraid to fall once again

If I don’t let myself go there’s one thing I know

I’ll be left all alone in the end

I won’t hold you to it but you said you would do it

You’d fall in love and then we’d fall apart

So give it all you got give it your best shot

Then go ahead and break my heart

Tom, that was fantastic.
Your super flat picking and vocals were the highlights of the song IMHO.
Super mix.

I also loved it.

Toe-tapping goodness :-)
Really well done, and a first class production.
Love it!

Permission granted. What a terrific song. Well written and masterfully produced. Great band, and I can see them standing on the stage just diggin' the feel. A fun mover, Tom. Just the right tempo and feel to be stomping on that blood-pumper.

Tom,

Killer mix. Again.

Love the write.

Nice flat picking. The sound you get recording that acoustic is astounding.

Top-Shelf. All the way.

Catchy Commercial Bluegrass. Not an easy nut to crack. I'd say you completely shattered it...

Hi Tom.

Stunning!
I love the bluegrass sound and the mix is as polished as anything I've ever heard.
Great songwriting. Great arranging. Fantastic performing.
Listening to this, I feel like I'm at a live performance of a favourite artist!
Brilliant stuff!

Tom,

That was a great idea you had about the mandolins!
You made a swinging song, so pleasant to listen to.
The vocals are so good, but they always are!
And that habit of yours (in the lyrics), well... not bad.
They may only cause headaches occasionally, but that is good for making beautiful songs!

That's pretty fab - the vocal, particularly in V1, sounds super authentic...I mean it does across the song but V1 seems to have some vintage sauce.

Tommy...I love me some bluegrass! that was classic sounding...really great interludes...super pickin'...snappy, well written lyric...great meter and pace...my favorite XM station in "Bluegrass Junction"...if I were to hear this there I would not be surprised!

I won't repeat all the positive comments, but will add that your harmonies are fantastic as well. Really enjoyed the tune and your flat picking!

Tom,

Dang, another good one . . . what toe-tapping fun. Yeah, that mandolin (partnering with that banjo) is bang up terrific. Great vocal, stellar mix. The roll continues . . . outstanding tune, catchy as all hell hook. Take a bow!

My best regards,

Deej

I was expecting a rock song, but surprisingly I heard an upbeat bluesgrass song. Nice lyrics with humor and something that could be called irony or reverse psychology, clever. Great combination of nice guitar playing, mandolins and banjos. Really catchy tune that made me smile.

Well, from a couple of folks who played in bluegrass bands for decades we gotta say that you have a genuine feel for the genre.
Actually we knew that already! smile

The mix is nailed which again shows your familiarity with bluegrass. It's harder to mix than many, many folks realize.

Your vocal, the melody and the lyric are all right in the wheelhouse of really good bluegrass.
And those flat picking bits sound great in tone and chops.

Nice to hear some bluegrass here and always great to hear tommyad!

Really like the choice of style. This is bluegrass at some of its best.

Good mix, and the solo breaks work perfectly.

I always enjoy your thoughtful comments and I didn’t grow up playing Bluegrass but I always enjoyed it. It took many years to get to the point of being able to play the style where I started to feel comfortable. Thanks for your supportive and generous feedback, Tom
