SORRY about the new thread.
Upon returning home I brought my wife, my luggage and COVID. That caused inactivity & now I can't edit the original with the W.I.P. that is part & parcel of the point.
BIAB drums, acoustic solo & organ with the rest by me - so far.
Here's the backing with & without melody:
Judith Said
Lyrics - we have lyrics!
Based on the realization that 70 years of a relationship does not mean that either party knows the other's deepest desires unless they are welcomed or expressed.
There's still some tweaking to be done and, I assume, some melody reworking needed as well.

Judith Said
V1
Judith said
In her head
Don't call me Judy
It's not my name
If it's all the same
To you.
C1
Long term love fits like a glove
But deadens the touch
Marital habit from hare to rabbit
Doesn't take too much
Not asked, just assumed
Choices subsumed
V2
Judith said
Silent bed
Always wanted a cat
It's not to be
There's no cat for me
It's true.
C2
Long term love fits like a glove
But deadens the touch
Marital habit from hare to rabbit
Doesn't take too much
When knowing "what's best"
Ignores the rest.
SOLO
V3
Judith said
She pled
Let's go for a drive
Movement & air
New moments to share
With you.
C3
Long term love fits like a glove
But deadens the touch
Marital habit from hare to rabbit
Doesn't take too much
Two minds become one
Choices are undone

Hi Ray,

I like the backing track, and really like the melody.

Lyrics read well, looking forward to hearing them!

Dear Ray, the most important thing is health. Be well, continue to make beautiful music for us.

I can hear the flute in this mix! laugh

Now if you could just find a singer...

Sorry to hear you got COVID. Hopefully it's the relatively mild version that's been going around. Everyone at my house is more than ready to be not sick anymore.

Ray, I hope you’re feeling better. The backing track sounds good and I’m looking forward to hearing it in a completed form, Tom

We really like this bed for the vocals, Ray.

Your bass works great with the RD and your guitar performances are excellent.
Your midi work complements the organ with a serene feeling against the urgent vibe from the drums and bass.

We look forward to the vocal version!

J&B

PS We had listened to this and created our comments but not posted them until today.
So this is for V1 but we will soon listen to V2 for differences.
Glad things are settling down a bit for you and yours.

Thgis is good. My favorite part are the lyrics --the implied things Judith didn't say. I tried singing them with the melody, and I hear you. I really enjoy hearing these develop. Thanks, Ray

Ray,

Glad things are getting better for you.

This version sounds great and I really like the way the lyrics came together. Looking forward to hearing the vocal.

Sounds nice again!

So, we have the melody and lyrics and are waiting on the singer now?

Sorry to hear about the Covid. Hope you feel better!!

Ray

It's sounding really good to me! The lyrics are interesting and once the right vocalist is in place this will probably a good one! In my mind I can hear a female vocal on this! I like the clean sounds chosen instead of a heavier distorted rock sound.

Take care, TB

Ray, sorry for your health issue, hope you are on the way to a speedy recovery. Like the way this is developing. In fact, the melody (without vocals) version makes a fine instrumental in my view. Great mix as usual. Thanks for sharing these glimpses of the work in progress. Looking forward to "final" if there is such a thing. Ha!

Hi Ray,

I fully agree with what Dave wrote.
Like the song and melody and that nice flute.
The nylon strings guitar gave the song some touches of Greece songs.
I felt that in the beginning and somewhere in the middle of the song.
What does Judith thinks of that? On purpose or...?

In the -lovely- lyrics Judith seems to complain all the time. Is she?
Or maybe I need to hear her singing this song first.

I have some doubt about the drum section. I think I wrote it before.
The melody is very nice, as I said, but the drums... It feels like they could florish with less bpm.
To me...

Cheers,
Hans

Hi rayc,

Love with the time often turns into a deep friendship that cannot be done without. Your composition has the merit of addressing these problems with time passing too quickly. I appreciated your very airy melody which fits well with your lyrics. It's a joyous song full of emotion. well done

Kindly regard
