A Card In Fate’s Right Hand
© 2015 K Leverett

From the day you were born you were trapped
With these black Kentucky hills at your back
Even before the strip miners took so much away
It never seemed to go your way
Still waiting for a better day

And you say that your life
Hasn’t turned out like you planned
Darlin’ you must be a card in fates right hand
When you put all your trust
In an angry man
Darlin’ you are just a card in fates right hand

And you keep betting on a long shot to come in
Then wonder why it is you never can win
Settled for a mining man
Thought he had bigger plans

With all the dirt beneath your painted fingernails
You’ve long since given up on any fairy tales

And you say that your life
Hasn’t turned out like you planned
Darlin’ you must be a card in fates right hand
When you put all your faith
In an angry man
Darlin’ you are just a card in fates right hand

Darlin’ you must be a card in fates right hand

Welcome Kenny!!

And you keep betting on a long shot to come in
Then wonder why it is you never can win

Absolutely love that! There are some other very good lyrics in here. All in all, musically and lyrically a very cool song. You have a nice, comfortable, natural, laid back style. Really enjoyed it!! Take care. Greg

I really enjoyed how you put this together. All the background parts creating a soup of sounds and the drum and your vocals propelling the story through it. your vocal phrasing reminded me of Tommy Petty which is meant as a compliment as I like how he can sound urgent and laid back all at the same time. Great job.

Hi Kenny,

Welcome to the forum.
A very nice first contribution. Indeed, your voice reminds us of Tom Petty, like Patrick said. Good vocals.

Hi Kenny.

THIS IS QUITE SIMPLY THE BEST THING I'VE HEARD FOR SUCH A LONG TIME.

The lyrics are brilliant. "When you put all your faith in an angry man". Just brilliant.

The backing is exactly right for the mood of the song and the vocal delivery is full of emotion. The mix is good and the whole package is extremely professional.

Welcome to the Showcase and please post some more like this.

Welcome to the forums Kenny.

This is a great song. Your voice is spot on and your lyrics are great.

" And you keep betting on a long shot to come in
Then wonder why it is you never can win" and " With all the dirt beneath your painted fingernails
You’ve long since given up on any fairy tales" are great lyrics.

I can see someone like John Prine singing this.

Ps - your backing tracks fit the song perfectly also.
