Iceland

Hi all,

first remix contest this year: https://soundcloud.com/groups/amy-kress-iceland-remix-contest
The original is the last at the bottom.
From the original I used the vocal tracks and a strings track which I completed with some strings by my own.
Just for fun I tried the new crooner big band track and liked it so much that I started working with it. There was a lot of regenerating, copying and pasting. I think the swing feel suits the melody very well.
RTs used:
RealDrums-JazzBrushesSticks#1
RT2126_ Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Half,Half Sw 110
RT560_ Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Jazz Freddie Sw
RT2593_Horn Section, Background CroonerBigBand9-Part Sw 110

https://soundcloud.com/boehmusic/amy-kress-iceland-boehmusic-remix

I hope you enjoy.

Awesome! Loved it. I'll leave you a review over there smile

Gunter, You're right the vocal fits this swing feel very nicely. It always amazes me how you can hear a different genre to use in the midst of the dance tracks. Another job well done. Mix sounds pro. Tom

Wow! This is really superb. The vocal recording is absolutely perfect, so crisp, and the sparse use of bass and drums only in places adds unbelievable character.

The Horn Section style and obviously a massive amount of editing makes this one of the best arrangements ever presented on this forum.

You've taken a fantastic old swing style and with a great melody and Amy's superb delivery, presented it all in a modern, stylish and very enjoyable song. Congratulations to you all of your hard efforts.

And, yet again, Guenter, you have found beautiful music where it was buried too deep for me to see!! I listened to some of several of the remixes (most are not easy to listen to) and the original (somewhat better), and yours (AWESOME!!). That big band thing worked great-I'm gonna have to play with that. You did an amazing job, making me enjoy music I never would have otherwise. Great!! Take care. Greg

Supremely clever. Sounds great.

You are the re-mixing master! You have probably learned a ton doing these remix exercises that you can easily apply to your own tunes. I also listened to the original -- you really knocked this one out of the park with the genre switch-up. Quite creative.

Guenter ... there's not much we can add to what's already been said. Super job on this! You're man of great musical talent ... we really enjoyed this. Hope all is well in Karlsruhe.

Guenter I always enjoy what you do with a remix. The big band sound is awesome! Your whole production is just great! I can't imagine myself trying to do this. You have such a good imagination and it really shows in all of your remixes. I sure enjoyed listening.

Guenter,

I listened to all of them (nice that there aren't so many this time). (parts of them, anyway).

I actually liked almost all of them. They all "brought something to the table". Almost ALL of them overdid something - usually a "drum" sound (the gunshot, for instance - really got annoying in an otherwise nice track). The other unfortunate thing is that almost all of them caused the vocal to become "secondary".

Amy's original mix was actually the most "typical" - and therefore, "ordinary". (I thought).

MAN! can that girl SING!!!!

Your mix is the only one that shows that off... And what a breath of fresh air after all the others!!! I actually listened to the words - for the first time - after listening to the song so many times. That in itself puts you on top.

Awesome job with the horns. Awesome job with everything else, too... drums and bass sound great. Strings, great.... and OH! that vocal!!!

Great mix.

Amy should be coming to you to do an entire CD. I would not be surprised if she did - really....

I think what amazes us the most about this is that you were
able to produce it in a manner that makes one think
the vocalist was originally singing with a swing band.
The difference in the vocal delivery with a more even
feel can often sound really out of place when you add
a swing backup -- something we've often experimented
with. However, you made it feel like they were in the
same studio and had worked together before.

We sampled the other mixes and this is absolutely our
favorite...admitting our bias toward this genre. Given
the current collabs with Lady Gaga and Tony Bennet
this just might hit the right chord with folks.

Stellar and very enjoyable!!

Fantastic work Guenter! If you don't win it will be a fix!
I didn't like the original mix at all - standard modern boring cliché sounds, unoriginal, ugh. Your idea of transplanting the vocal into an entirely different genre is genius. And your mix is perfect, soundwise. You have golden ears mein Freund!

" (Your) massive amount of editing makes this one of the best arrangements ever presented on this forum." No doubt about it. "Amy should be coming to you to do an entire CD. I would not be surprised if she did - really...." No doubt about that either. That you took a " standard modern boring cliché sounds, unoriginal" song into such an original and professional mix is outstanding.

Your mix is the best of the bunch not just genre speaking but I think you did the most with the song.

Although her vocals are stellar, clear and fit well in the mix, I think she could do an even better job redoing the song over your music. She would probably phrase better and more in style with the big band genre of singing.

Excellent, excellent work.

Oh yes Guenter that style works great here! We definitely think this is your best one so far.
Amy's vocals are very cool by the way, they remind us of Suzanne Vega.

very nice of you to listen to all of them.
You are right that all of the other contestants made the vocal only an attachment.
"MAN! can that girl SING!!!!"

Guenter,

This is INCREDIBLE - a really, really enjoyable way to spend 4+ minutes.

I can only imagine the amount of work that you've put into dicing, slicing and splicing the Realtracks. The way you've taken a steady 8-beat and massaged it into swing is nothing short of spectacular. The phrase "Genius at work" just sprang to mind. It sounds like the perfect sign to hang on your door when you're assembling your remixes!

As I listened to Amy sing, it was like her vocals were made for your backing. There was nothing artificial sounding about what you've done at all.... a perfect match! I bet her eyes flew open when she heard what you'd created.

As I said at the start, this is incredible.

All the best,
Noel

Superb! Everything is nicely placed. So rhythmical and swinging that my body starts swinging naturally.

Incidentally, the song with vocal is very nice. I like especially female voices, but I do not have female singers. I only have vocaloid!
