Mister Jay v2

Tempo 185
Style is _HEEHAWH.STY (Ol' Dusty Trails)

RealTracks in style: ~540:Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 165
RealTracks in style: ~615:Harmonica, Background HeeHaw Sw 165
RealTracks in style: ~373:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Hank Sw 165
RealTracks in style: 616:Mandolin, Rhythm Bouncy Sw 165
RealTracks in song: ~1135:Pedal Steel, Rhythm WesternSwing Sw 190
RealTracks in song: 1868:Guitar, Resonator, Soloist WesternSwingRob Sw 165
RealDrums [in style:NashvilleSwing8^1-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride

The piano and fiddle were midi tracks (thru hard synth) from the original version. The Piano is actually pieced together from a midi solists, a midi melodist, and a midi harmonist sliced, diced, and overlayed to fit here. The fiddle was a mix of various violin/fiddle patches in the synth and intended to emulate an electric fiddle.

I sang and knocked.

I succumbed to encouragement to "redo" the original with Reals. This was a bit of a bastage bringing parts of two projects (themselves heavily eidted and in pieces) into a coherent whole that added Real Tracks and Real Drums to an arrangement but also used parts of the original that I consider integral to the song as a whole.

The Style was suggested by BIAB when I opened the old .sgu. At first I had my doubts about a style named "HeeHaw", but BIAB is very wise.

The bulk of this mix was done in Reaper, but finished in Acid Pro where I seem to have more luck with envelopes. It's been a lot of work, and a learning experience, but I think it's time to put this mix to bed and move on.

Comments from the original posting follow:

This song was born from a fun conversation with the real "Mr. Jay". a bail-bondsman in Houston. He not only inspired the song with his stories, but helped to "Houstonify" it.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
I am quite surprised to see you, I must say
Please don't haul me off to Jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

Ain't this Memphis springtime something else to feel?
I've been busking for a bus ticket down on Beale
See that lady there that let you through the door.
Ain't none like her back in Houston anymore.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
And I'm quite surprised to see you I must say
Please don't haul me off to jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

I'll head back to Cunny Homes in old 3rd ward
Baby's mama prolly thinks there's some reward
Got to get back to my biz on Scott and Clay
Give me one more week, I'll be back Mr. Jay

Instrumental

Ain't this LA breeze a bucketful of bliss?
Ain't no courtroom back in Houston quite like this
You look like you've been working pretty hard
Stick around, I'll show you Sunset Boulevard.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
I am quite surprised to see you, I must say
Please don't haul me off to Jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

Ain't this New York City something, Lord I swear
Since you made it here, you'll make it anywhere
It's up to you if you think it's time to go.
Got no money and I'm scared of Mexico

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
And I'm not surprised to see you I must say
I'll crawl off of this here stoop
get back inside the loop
I am not jumping bail Mr. Jay

I am not jumping bail
I'm not jumping bail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay

I loved the song, Tangmo! Well done!

It reminded me of the electro swing style that were so popular a few years ago. Worth considering if you ever want to make another version with another style in BiaB. Your song got a groove similar to that style.

Wow, this is really catchy—makes me think of a Grateful Dead song. Great write and love the production on this—that instrumental is killer. Very awesome tune—well done!

Oh yeah! We love the new version.

In a way it has a bit of a Farm Aid sound...like something Mellencamp might've done. Also it has a feel of what Tom Adams has described as Appalachian Honky Tonk. All good things.

We enjoyed it and the backstory of how it all came about!

Really well done! Love how it sounds with the RealTracks. The song really flows perfectly. Love the groove, and your vocals fit perfectly in the mix. Nicely catchy and perfectly energetic. This is the kind of tune I can imagine sounding unreal live.

Great work and thanks for sharing smile
