A BRIGHTER DAY

This is a song that I have posted before but have continued to work on. I started writing it with my co-writer Ron Helm when I was in my late teens (many, many years ago). Ron contributed a couple of lines in the verses. This will probably be my last run at this one. Thanks to those who listen!

Piano - 1264 Pop Shining
Guitar - Pop Autoswell Brent
Guitar - 2916 Acoustic Rhythm

A Brighter Day
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss and Ron Helm
©2016 Glass Gate Music

I tried but couldn't hide it
A pride, too strong to fight it
It never turned your love from me
For years, I kept denying
My heart was cold and dying
I was so blind but now I see
I'm not alone in this lost and crazy world

Your love has no end
You gave me one more chance
When I'd fallen so far away
You've proven you're my best friend
You kept me believing
That I would see a brighter day

For me, all hope was fading
Just like a ship that's sailing
Lost out on stormy open sea
Your Love is so amazing
The only thing that saved me
I've found the very thing I need
You took my fears
And you cast them all away

Your love has no end
You gave me one more chance
When I'd fallen so far away
You've proven you're my best friend
You kept me believing
That I would see a brighter day

You could have turned your back on me
You could have walked away
You've proven you'll be faithful 'til the end

I'm not alone in this lost and crazy world
Your love has no end
You gave me one more chance
When I'd fallen so far away
You've proven you're my best friend
You kept me believing
That I would see a brighter day

Torrey...this is such a gorgeous song...I'm a sucker for a great mid-tempo song...love the intro with the cool synth and guitar lines...your vocals are exceptional and the melody is so captivating...I am a lover of harmony (you know this) and yours is always so different and interesting and spot-on...so I'm on my third listen trying to pick up things I can steal but I don't have the chops to get any of it...I love it when lyrics fit the melody and groove so well and my brother...you nailed it with this! Super tune!! I wish I could think of someone you remind me of (as you have so graciously done with my stuff)...but you are no one's clone...your sound is unique...best regards...Dan

Yea Torrey
This is a Good write from you as expected, You do suit stepping out of your norm , as I see it , great vocals but on the verses a bit dry ...wee bit more /add some reverb/excitement in the vocals/song as the artists do/done .

I always seen comments on this forum too much reverb, well a think that is the big diff of opinion, from live and recording , a sure as hell loved my studio recordings of the artists i bought on vinyl, cassette !! .

And that started that old ...here we go ..(They never sounded as good on record as they did in concert.). saying..!.

This is now ! and we are here !! Go for it !!.

Excellent lyrics A song a would revisit and try some plug ins Pssst !! Reverb .

Thanks

The man of many talents hit another home run

Super intro and groove

Your vocal is very strong on this one

Your band is perfect, as are your leads

This song brightened up my day

Loved it

Love those opening guitars. Man, you are so good at these songs, Torrey. You compose the perfect progression and fill it with a wonderfully flowing melody, get the most out of your band and are able to present it with the best vocal --a truly high stand all the way. Your lyrics always flow so easily --at least you make it seem that way. No vowel sound out of place. When the melody calls for you to hold a long note, the word is never 'What." hehe Another beauty, Torrey.

Excellent production Torrey.
A mix of late ELO & Brian May.
Very well written, very well performed and mixed.
Topped with TB vocals...excellent.

I can imagine the Eagles doing this.

Hi Torres.
For me, reminiscent of the 1960’s pop bands from Britain (Hollies, Beatles etc.).
Really well produced but I would like to here some extra dynamics here and there.

Thanks for having a listen. I did originally try a mix with more reverb on the vocals bit it seemed to take the "snap" out of the sound and didn't suit my taste. All In the ears of the individual listener I suppose.

Thanks Vic! I don't know if you mean more dynamics with the music or vocals. If it's the music, there isn't a lot of dynamics to work with when almost totally relying on the BIAB realtracks as I did here, except for an occasional stop or hold here and there. If it's vocally, then that's a different story. I didn't take the time to work out the vocals on this one as much as I do on a lot of other songs.

Great intro! Gets the song going immediately. I like the lyrics as well. Some clever lines without being overly complicated.

Hi Torrey.
I was thinking of the music tracks mainly. Maybe a couple more more hits and holds.
I don't know what Daw you're using. Does it have automation to increase the volume on certain parts of the track and decrease on others? A bit like a fine painting with light and dark for impact but loud and soft instead but subtly used.

Yea your right Torrey !

I meant if you write then sell your self , glam it up as everyone does in the industry !!.

If not it sounds bland, done in my room kind of thing !!.

Listen to the stuff on the radio /broadcasts and think how would my song fit in preparation ?.

Again nice song , I've seen/heard loads of songs performed by other people who record/master differently from the original artist/writer !.

To go on and be more successful than the originals .

Swings and roundabouts !.

Won't affect you folks in the B.I.A.B. Forum tho .

ALWAYS, ALWAYS Love to listen to your tunes Torrey!!! Production-wise, this sounds as pro as anything I've heard on the forum!! I love the influence of the old days I hear in your tunes. These days, there are so many 4 chord, 8 bar deals. This is musically so creative!! WONDERFUL!!! Take care. Greg

This has a very good combo of BiaB and your fine performances.

Your excellent, passionate vocals present the uplifting lyric so well.
Not much need to mention the mix as they are always pro level.

We always hear some Beatles influence in your music and it always makes us smile.

We’re glad you reposted it!

I love the harmony guitar intro!

You're taking a pretty big leap tone-wise, in the verses... But it works because of the power of your voice :-)

Very creative chord changes, like only you, can come up with.

As always, the backing vocals are great too.

Very cool intro Torrey. Loved the chorus/harmonized guitars. Excellent vocal and lyric as always. Backtrack was very cool as well. Drums really locked in the groove to the song. Super mix and production...
