Hi All,

Here's something called The Main Line.

The sky was coming down
All around the stars
Footprints in the night
Lighting up the dark
Like a path or a tunnel through the haze
Like an axe coming down to split the days
She’s a vision up against the fading light
She’s a ghost in a line of crooked sight

And she don’t pay no mind
And she don’t pay no mind
Moving in and out of time
Baby’s on the main line

It could have been Detroit
Or a condo by the sea
In the middle of the night
In Kansas City
Like a jet or a rocket to the sun
Like a war that never will be won
I’m on a mission to unwind the crime
I’m a shape shifter running out of time

And she don’t pay no mind
And she don’t pay no mind
Moving in and out of time
Baby’s on the main line

I’m on a mission to unwind the crime
I’m a shape shifter running out of time

And she don’t pay no mind
And she don’t pay no mind
Moving in and out of time
Baby’s on the main line
Baby’s on the main line
Baby’s on the main line
Baby’s on the main line
Baby’s on the main line

Hey there Bob, I sure liked the way you got the acoustic rhythm and lead guitar to work together. I thought it really made a cool sound working together like that.

Last time I swung by the forum for a few days, I didn't get my dose of Bob Dean, and I MISSED IT! This is vintage you.....LOVE IT!!! Take care. Greg

Bob,
First verse is a killer. A well composed and sung tune. Mix is very clear, easy listen.
Thank you for sharing.

What a good band choice. Very cool baritone and the way you used it is just prefect, Bob. "a shape shifter running out of time." ALL of your lyrics are so engaging. Love the easy feel of this Main Line. Excellent vocal in your entertaining and unique style. One thing we know is that your song talent never goes in and out of time. Always present.

Bob,

Nobody in the forum does these folk/rock type tunes like you! I always enjoy your work and appreciate your lyric writing! You've got a great sound going on here in this one!

Thanks, Torrey

I like the song and the arrangement. The drums/bass combination you've used works very good.

Your voice always reminds me a bit of the Waterboys, I like that.

Yes, Another Bob Dean Classic!!

Love it!

Great lyrics man.

Hey in the sound cloud lyrics I think you want to fix it to say "split" and not "spilt" with the axe...

or not...

Hi Bob,

I have been hoping you would bring back the baritone again, such a great sound and really fits your music I think.

Great lyrics, I love:

"I’m on a mission to unwind the crime
I’m a shape shifter running out of time"

Nice!

Great song, one of your best.

Another good tune, Bob.

Another terrific use of BIAB.
You always make it sound like "Bob Dean's Band".
Excellent use of the baritone.

We LOVE this! Janice said she started to quote some lines and realized she wanted to quote the entire lyric so… smile

The meter of your lyrics flows so well it is hard not to keep rereading them aloud.

Once again your band (and that baritone guitar!) are the ideal accompaniment to your distinct vocals and the entire package keeps us mesmerized.

Wonderful Americana!

I found the first verse quite intriguing but I could not quite apprehend the relationship between the story-teller and 'Baby' (but then I'm not as sharp as I once might have been). The BIAB tracks were well-chosen and fitted the song particularly well. Murder ballads don't seem to be as popular today as they were in the 19th century; perhaps this one might spark a revival of the genre!

The baritone guitar was an excellent intro. Super vocal, lyric and backtrack. Guitar solo was excellent as well. Loved the tremolo. Well done...

Beautiful effective imagery.

The baritone adds to the overall loneliness of the melody. Effective too!

Interesting poetry, dark and scary, but criminally entertaining. Nice powerful introduction of the drums. The baritone fits very well. Good vocals.
