Interesting story about the business arrangements with VOX.

It amazes me that today the push seems to be high wattage, high SPL amps...how did they ever make it in the early days with 25 watt and less amps?

I suppose that in the 60's the listeners had much less hearing damage than many of us have today!

But you must remember that when The Beatles announced they were quitting live shows the main reason given was the band could not hear itself over the crowd noise.

It must have been extremely frustrating. When The Beatles quit touring they were most likely at their peak as musicians. What good is it to work so hard to be that proficient and to not even be able to hear your band mates, let alone for the crowd to hear and appreciate your playing?

Sound level was a problem playing live until fairly recent. Crowds use to scream and holler for Frank Sinatra during the big band era and Elvis during early days of rock and roll. The difference is they never had a promoter rent a stadium to accommodate the crowds.
