PROMISES
---------------------
I recently asked forum friend Steve Mohacey to help me "breath life" into a 40-year-old song. It features Steve's excellent skills on tenor sax.
=============================
Letters and pictures and phone calls and flowers
Had promised a day that was due;
Now I can say that today is that promise--
Today I am flying to you.

Burst through the clouds and a mem'ry's awakened
By colors I see in the skies;
Now I recall why that blue is familiar--
That blue is the blue in your eyes.

Can't keep my mind on this book I've been reading;
I've tried but it's simply no use;
My mind is caught up in letters and pictures and PROMISES--you.

What can I say when I look in your eyes that could
Tell you how much you've been missed?
Foolish to think that a word could exist that could
Tell you as well as a kiss.

Somewhere below there are lovers whose lovers are
Waiting for their day to come;
Aren't we lucky that our day has finally come for us?

Ten minutes more we'll touch down in your city
I'll search for your face in the crowd;
Run to your arms and I know that our hearts will be
Singing our promise out loud:

Love you! Love you!

Tom,

Very nice! Cool & jazzy. I love the interplay with the sax. Your vocal, arrangement and mix are perfect for this song.

Excellent!

Tom-

I'm so happy that you asked me to be part of your project. Thanks!

I like the final mix. This reminds me of returning home from deployments while I was in the Army. The anticipation and excitement of coming home to someone you love is always a worthy subject for a song.

Bravo!

Warmest regards,

Tom, an outstanding song, great arrangement, outstanding vocal, super backing tracks and mix
Steve, fantastic sax that supported the song perfectly.
Great work gentlemen.

Hi Tom.

I can only reiterate what those above me have said. This is a fantastic composition and equally fantastic arrangement and production. Steve's sax work is perfect! This track is a credit to you both. I love you lyrics and I love the melody and they way this song travelled along. The key changes were really skillfully done! All in all, this is some mighty fine listening smile

Super tune, guys! Another classic song structure with perfectly phrased vocals. Nice mix, too.

Man, I LOVE BiaB, but the pro touches on sax here are special. Nice collaboration.

Hi Tom!
I love the meter of the vocal phrasing in this song - a triplet feel over every two beats - it creates a non-rushed urgency - like the sounds of the city in the background, and sax supports this feel (great work Steve M). The drop into each italicised section - not sure what these are called - are they bridges or alternate verses? chorus - Anywho… - they sounded great, different, yet complemented the feel of the overall song.

Tom - your vocals are recorded close and this creates a sense of intimacy - or maybe closer, personalised proximity, which serve the lyrics well.

Overall, a most enjoyable song. Well done.

Lots to enjoy. A fabulous song - a show tune in waiting.
The vocal is seems to be in a different room to the backing by level and sax by reverb space.
That midi bass does sound a bit midi but fits in when the vocal is riding the waves.

Cheers

This was refreshing. Love your style creation; the band sounds great. The lyrics are adorably romantic and your voice sounds good, as usual. It's really quite catchy.

Whenever I hear your songs, I think of Kermit the Frog singing The Rainbow Connection. Now, some might think having their vocals compared to a frog (let alone a muppet) to be a horrible thing, but Kermit had a wonderful voice when he sang...smooth and kind and comforting. The association is in regard to those qualities.

Wow! This is fabulous.

The sax at the start had my brain going in the direction of the intro theme to an old Private Detective TV show and I half expected to hear the narrator coming in lol. Then the rhythm section kicked in and off it went..... Loved it, your vocals are great imo, as is the overall mix and use of effects, verb etc.

Great listen 👍

Hi, Tom.

Nice write! The sax contrasts with the triplet feel of the melody, and the arrangement works to capture the mood.

It's got a very 70's feel, which the bongos help with. Love the mix.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks for the upbeat write ... very nice.

Your session group well supported your vocal and the excellent sax.
The conga/bongo track nailed the feel.

And your mix brought it all home ... great soundstage on our monitors.

Nice collab y'all!

Cool jazz song. Vocally it reminds me of Julie Andres' "Favorite Things."
