Hi,

I'm using the DAW Plugin Standalone v5.0.9.

How do I change the directory location where the files are rendered? I'm aware they are saved as dir-SavedTracks\datetime-SavedTracks but the directory to which they are saved is obsolete and unrelated to any project I'm working on.

I've searched for a solution but to no avail - obviously I'm missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Or the final option you have is to move the rendered wav files to your DAW tracks and save it in the DAW to the project directory.

Thanks but no, that doesn't do what I need. That opens the Save File Directory - which is where my SGU is, but the rendered wav and mid files are still written somewhere else.

@MusicStudent -

Thanks for the reply. My SGU is saved where I want it.

When I render the song, the wav files are written to a directory I haven't used since last year - nowhere near or related to the current song directory.

Example...
My song is saved at E:\bb\Songs\Default

when I render this song the rendered files go to
C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Projects\BIAB\Song in A\Song In A-SavedTracks

Thanks again.

Don,

Welcome to the forum!

The location where the plugin saves renders is locked and can not be changed.

The directory location where the plugin saves renders is X:\bb\BBPlugin\SavedTracks where X = the drive letter where Band-in-a-Box is installed.

The renders from each plugin session is contained in a separate folder.

Ya, as Jim said.

The rendered saved files go to a fixed Global location into a time/date folder, which I set to auto delete when closed. Why do you want to save them? You can always hit re-gen and get them again. I only save them when I use them - meaning they go to the DAW. Then I use the features of my DAW to save the wav files to the project directory.

Thanks for the welcome to the forums! I've been around since BIAB2004 (I think V7 but I'm not sure) - long, long time lurker but this might be the first time I'm really stuck.

@Jim - It looks like that folder is permanently pointing to a directory I don't want. Any way to change it? Ini's, etc? I did a text search for the 'bad' directory on the files in the complete BB install but nothing I could use was evident.

@MusicStudent - I don't want to save them long term. But I don't want anything written to an obsolete folder on a drive I don't want them written to. And yes, I move them to my DAW when necessary. I just don't want them written there.

And yes, I did the 'reset to factory settings'.

By the way if it matters, the other directory and file were created and saved using BIAB2022. I'm now thinking 2023 is broken.

Thanks again to y'all for your help!

Is that where you want the files to go? Because you set the folder for the "rendered files". And you can set the folder location anywhere you want (...but I already showed you this?). I don't think anything is broke. Maybe I am just confused regarding what you are doing.

Don,
This is not right! You can set the location to any parent directory your want and the rendered files will go into time/date subfolder within that parent directory.

What DAW are you using? I am on Reaper and it works exactly as claimed.

I agree it's not right. That's the problem.

My primary DAW is Reaper but it's BIAB we're writing about, and the problem is where BIAB renders, and it has nothing to do with Reaper.

I'm using the Standalone BIAB (DAW Plugin Standalone.exe). Reaper, nor FLS, nor any other DAW I use is involved.

Again - I want BIAB to render to a current (or at least one of my choice) directory, not some obsolete, arbitrary directory I haven't used in a year.

If I delete the BIAB bad '-SavedTracks' directory, it creates one. Arrrrg.

If it hasn't happened already, I'll pass this up to PG support. I think it's either a latent problem or a new 2023 issue.

Thanks again,
Don

Oh, that is news! I assumed we were talking about the BIAB-VST (VST3)! Nothing obvious to the uninformed. grin Maybe now I will have a chance to help. crazy Let me take a look over there and see what is going on.

Ya, not much different over there. Same options to name and save the location of the render folder and files. By the way, the current version of both is V5.1.4 which I am using. There is currently a bug report dealing with this specific feature not working well. It has been acknowledged and a fix is claimed for next version.

Hold it, I just tried to change the name of the folder in the Standalone BIAB, to save in a different location and it stopped me cold. I did not expect that. Is that the problem, it will not allow us to change the name?? I will send to developers.

It was not working for me at first then it worked after saving closing, restarting.
Look in C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Band-in-a-Box DAW Plugin Folder Locations.txt
you can set it manually there.
It will also ask to move them if you Save As.

Code:
BBLocation=C:\bb\
RealTracksLocation=E:\bb\RealTracks\
DrumsLocation=E:\bb\Drums\
SavedTracksLocation=C:\BB SavedTracks\SavedTracks\

I'm still working on this so thanks for hanging in there with me...

@musocity - thanks for the tip on the Ticket directory. I didn't know it existed but that's exactly what I was looking for. As it turns out, the contents of my Plugin Folders Directory are the same yours. But the BBPluginDebug.txt file might hold some clues.

@MusicStudent - where did you get 5.1.4? The support page I'm going to still shows 5.0.9.

I'm pursuing an idea that, for whatever reason, the tracks in the style in my new song are bound to an 'old' directory. I've found that multi-riffs and a few solos using new tracks in that same song correctly render to the 'default' directory.

I'll be setting up a few test cases to see if my theory holds up.

Learning something new every day from all of you!

Thanks again,
Don

I hope pictures are worth many words. (I also hope they're large enough to be legible)

There are three attachments - maybe not in order...

a) From the 'dropdown' list' (Preferences -> Folder Locations)
b) What I entered and want and saved (in the DAW Plugin Filder.txt file)
c) Where the tracks were actually rendered. (Why there?)

Unless I misunderstand the concept of PG Music's directory locations and directory persistence, or what rendering is, (if so, please let me know and set me straight), I'm considering the PG disregard for saved/then ignored parameters a nasty anomaly and I'll figure out a workaround or change my workflow to compensate.

Thanks to everyone for your time and help. I won't bother anyone again with this unless I'm asked otherwise.

@MusicStudent - got it. big time thx.

P.S. This is my first shot at attachments, and I hope they're ok. Please let me know.
