Hi, floyd jane. I cheated and read the lyrics first. So they set up unreasonable expectations, which of course you went above and beyond. I'm getting strong a Springsteen vibe here. Big, sincere and rocking. Color me impressed - I thought I knew the fj sound, but you turned the dial past that last notch. Again. It all works - the guitars, the vocals, everything from the first guitar lick to the last twang. Big, clean mix. It sounds great.

Great lyrics! Great wall of guitar sound. I really like how catchy and singable this is without resorting to a singsong chorus. I listened over five times, not critically, just for the pleasure of it. I did notice on the two stanzas that began "if I ever dream..." that some of the words were too soft, at least for my ears. (Could be a senior issue). And of course, your always terrific and impassioned vocals topped it all off. Great outing here, trite to say that it's "one of your best," but that's where I'm thinking.

Hi Floyd! I think this is what they call a 'benchmark'. Lots of good to say about this and your work. I love the section (do we call it a bridge?) with its rising bass line, and the way you sing some words in an unexpected way. The solo on the way out breaks the stereotype as well, with pleasing differences in tone between the guitars.
Before I had read any other comments, Springsteen came to mind (not that I know a lot of his discography), so it was good to see that David remarked on this as well. In the phrases 'i want to be the face / i want to haunt your dreams / i want to show you a love' where this stood out.
I'm heading back for another listen!

Floyd,
Writers write...
I love how this song makes a striking impression immediately with a big, commanding vocal full of power and emotion. The guitar driven arrangement is beautifully done, full of subtle changes and dynamic shifts. It sounds polished, balanced, and professional, allowing each guitar track to have its place. And another great solo as well!
The lyrics and melody are excellent. At times, I hear the grit and storytelling of Springsteen, and at others, the sweeping, dramatic emotional delivery of Orbison. It’s a rare combination that gives the song both depth and accessibility. Not easy to do...
This is an outstanding piece of work. It's crafted with skill, heart, and artistry. You always create the kind of music that stays with you long after the last note.
And that's because... writers write.
Bob

Hi Floyd, Some people here should take a closer look at the first four lines of your upfront.
After spending the last few weeks back on the forum for the first time in a long time, I thought that it was no longer possible to write songs without SUNO or other AI...
But maybe being a musician is enough to write excellent songs...
Just like you are. A truly excellent song from start to finish. Everything sounds really great. Man, you've mastered so many different musical styles, that's awesome. Vocals, guitar, bass—everything is top notch.
I really enjoyed it, Floyd. Andi ;-)

Floyd, This is a masterpiece. You are a great wordsmith. You are a great multi-talented instrumentalist. You are a great arranger. You are a great producer. The only thing left for me to say is I loved it. PS - your first 4 lines is how I do my songs also. Well except I use pitch correction on my vocals because I need to use it
I'm no longer allowed to go caroling at the psych hospital. I guess Do You Hear What I Hear was a bad song choice!

Man, no one writes lyrics this good --well, guess I can't say no one now. Good guitar work perfectly placed and played --in fact, if you didn't say it, I'd think it was all you right from the opening 5 seconds because you made it such a smooth transition. You were always the full pacakge from creation to production and now you're adding more layers of excellence with your playing. Can he get any fuller folks?

Wowzer, Floyd! Stupendous write and POWERFUL vocals. Super job on the lead guitar parts and fills, too, as well as bass and organ. Very jangly and hooky and all the things I like to hear in a song. That was maybe the fastest four minutes of my life--a great measure of a song's quality in my view.
Love the lyrics but especially the "lock screen" line. Now THAT's true love.
(Dunno how I missed this one for three days. I need to be more diligent in looking for songs knocked down in the queue.)

FJ, Rock solid lyrics. Fantastic opening. Flows very well. Vocals are strong and sit very nice in the mix. A bit heavier than many other tunes I've heard by you, but that is not a bad thing Got some of U2 vibe. Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing. Misha.

Floyd I listened to your song. Every word, till the very end. I’m rating this review myself. (Ha, ha…love your “commentary” on real human work!) Your work is so motivational for me and spurs me on to try to do better and improve my craft by taking lessons from your projects. I really liked the extended bars on “true”..great touch! And the nice gentle landing was perfect. Great lyrics, movement, feel—all around wonderful.

So, what did I like about this? Everything. What creative ability I have liked - Everything. What made this a great song? Everything.
\Nice guitar work! This is bold, powerful, and full. The entire sound stage - left to right, bottom to top - was perfectly filled with, well, everything needed to give rise to a great song.
Also, wanted to commend you on your ever-improving guitar skills. You have quickly learned how to fenagle 6 strings into a coherent and well-done sound. Congrats on making so much headway on that journey. Kinda cool, isn't it? I remember when I first started to play guitar beyond the simple, open major chords. I literally practiced 2 - 4 hours almost every single day. You could have planted potatoes in the very sore indents in my fingertips. But 9 months later, I made my first $8.00 playing out professionally in St. Charles, Missouri. I see and hear the same passion in your playing - and you are coming along like gangbusters. You're making all the right stops on that journey. Nicely done, Floyd. Seriously!
BTW, I liked EVERYTHING about this one.

Hi Floyd, Excellent write! Lots of great lines, my favorite: "your hammer and nails the wind in your sails your everything" Mix sounds great through the 'phones, although I thought the vocal could have been a bit louder during the chorus. Nice job on the guitars, I especially liked what you did during the outro with the two leads in there. So, you are now playing keys, bass, and guitar ... time to get a drum set?

This is a fantastic song, Floyd! I love all of those guitars in the rhythm section, plus your solo, etc, is all very excellent. Great lyrics and a top class love song. You certainly don't need an auto-tuner. Really enjoyed listening to this rocker. Brilliant in all respects!

My 1st thoughts were Steinman/Meatloaf. It has that vibe to it and your strong vocal arrangement reinforced that. Your guitar playing is FABULOUS. I was working on a track a couple of days ago that lacks a lead & filigree - I thought of your & your playing. This song arrangement explains why. Ab Fab.

Hey that's a pretty decent uptempo rocker.
Your guitar sounds good. I'm assuming that's a plugin on the guitar.
That solo wasn't half bad either. Some tasty stuff in there. Keep on gettin on.
I liked what I heard.

That's quite a lot of guitars (including yours), and yet it still sounds very clean and transparent. Speaks for your mixing/production skills. You've created some really cool (and, for me, new) images with your lyrics, and man, I really LOVE what you do with the bass. The Jacob Collier Choir (I'm a big fan of his) sounds pretty good and interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention. For my personal taste the vocals in the choruses could be a dB or three louder, but that's no biggie, they still sound fantastic. Incredibly catchy. I tremendously enjoyed my listen! Several times

Do you know what we like about your song? EVERYTHING.
It’s big and powerful and rocking and yet it is also breathes really well. You always amaze us with how you can mix and match so many different guitar tracks….and now you’ve topped yourself by playing several of your own!
Everything sounds great and in exactly the right place. Janice read the lyrics before listening and said, “oh, yeah!” After reading about everything you played and then listening she showed me one of her recent daily calendar quotes that reminded her of you: “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls before.” Not that you were dealing with walls but that it is evident you are following your bliss and we benefit from it. 😊
Loved it!

Andrew Thanks, Andrew. I appreciate the mention of the guitar solo and especially the bass line (since I taught myself bass recently - kinda right before recording this) I get a lot of Springsteen "influence" notes when I do these type songs. Not intending to "sound like". It's just the way I end up creating my rock-i-er stuff. I did listen to a lot of Bruce growing up. But I also listened to a LOT of Tom Petty and no one ever tells me my stuff sounds like him (I often wish it did)....

I listened to this after you first posted it, but didn't get a chance to respond. Glad to hear it again. It's such an amazing song, but at this point, I'd expect no less from you. Your voice sounds great. It's just an all-around catchy rock song that could drive the crowd wild! I've got my lighter out and I'm waving the flame in the air.

This is really the first full bass track I've played/recorded. Getting the level right is the hardest mixing job - I think. The Bass varies on different speakers and earbuds more than anything else. If I up the volume from here, I have one set of buds that get way too bass-y. So...I'm working on the balance. Feel free to offer as many suggestions as you got.. Man, no one writes lyrics this good --well, guess I can't say no one now.
Alan Thanks for all of that, Alan. Everything. Where/When in St. Charles?. - We lived there from '89-'92...

Hey Floyd,
St. Charles is my hometown. I grew up there. I was born in St. Louis in 1947. We moved to St. Charles in the early 1950s when it was a town of 6,000 people. The population now is about 70,000! We played at a dive called City Club. It's on the corner of Main Street and First Capitol Drive. It's down by the Missouri River where the old brick streets are in the historical district. I just saw on Google maps that it's now a restaurant. We lived on the corner of North Six Street and Lewis Street. I played there from the summer of '64 through May of '65. I remember the very first song I played in the band was "Welcome To My World" by Jim Reeves. My father had just bought me A 1961 Gretsch Tennesseean Chet Atkins model. I thought that Bixby was way too cool - and I used it way too muchI We played on Friday and Saturday nights making $8.00 each. We had a 5-piece band. I never realized that night was the first step I made to making over $60,000 a year just by playing with my G-string!.
What took you to St. Charles?
BTW, we were there at the same time. When I retired from the Army in 1988, I went back to St. Charles and stayed until 1992, when I moved to Bakersfield, California. who knows, we may have crossed paths!

Thanks, Dave. I keep forgetting to turn that chorus up (several folks made mention). Thanks for mentioning the two leads... ...and the write... My wife caught me eyeing a digital drum set on craigslist. She said "Don't even think about, buddy...." Too many good drum programs and tracks available, so the time to "get effective" seems a waste... I did, however, master the mandolin...

Thanks a bunch, Chay... Ab Fab. Warms my heart. (You can ask I'm willing to take a stab, but no guarantees...)

Hi floyd!
Wow!!!! I'm late to the party with this one but I'm so glad I didn't miss it. It's brilliant. Your outstanding writing, brilliant arrangement, super-singer-songwriter performances (instrumental and vocal). and your killer production are beyond fantastic. This is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining listening experiences that I have had in a long time. I am thoroughly impressed with what you've done and what you've achieved. You truly are a Band-In-A-Box musical wizard of the highest calibre.
Incredible work! --Noel

Yeah, I immediately heard The Boss, The NEW BOSS.....FJ!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE EVERYTHING (That's right EVERYTHING) about this!!!......just jumps out of the cans and into your soul!! Amazing musicianship, writing, and vocals.........WOWOW!!!! Unbelievable my friend!!! Take care. Greg

Hey that's a pretty decent uptempo rocker.
Your guitar sounds good. I'm assuming that's a plugin on the guitar.
That solo wasn't half bad either. Some tasty stuff in there. Keep on gettin on.
I liked what I heard. Thanks What a big sound! Great work, Floyd. I love the "lock screen" image. The mix is perfect--reverb makes it soar. Appreciated…..

Hi, Floyd. I’m still amazed by your talents.
Recently the young woman I play gigs with asked if I’d like to try cowriting with her and another local musician. Our first session was about a week ago. This past Tuesday I sent them the link to your website. If you want to write songs, study a pro.
At first this production had me thinking Shenandoah or maybe Exile, probably because I expected ‘country’ but it quickly took on its own original and top-shelf vibe. Excellent playing and singing. Take care.

That's quite a lot of guitars (including yours), and yet it still sounds very clean and transparent. Speaks for your mixing/production skills. Coming from a guy with mixing/production skills of his own, it's much appreciated. You've created some really cool (and, for me, new) images with your lyrics, ...as lyrics ought to... and man, I really LOVE what you do with the bass. Thank you for mentioning that.... The Jacob Collier Choir (I'm a big fan of his) sounds pretty good and interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention. ...and it's free! For my personal taste the vocals in the choruses could be a dB or three louder, but that's no biggie, they still sound fantastic. I keep forgetting to address that... Incredibly catchy. I tremendously enjoyed my listen! Several times Thanks for the nice comments, Brian...

Big sound with nice vocal effects, heck just a few decades ago this would be on the top ten, IMHO. Donny G Thanks, Donny. Sounds really nice Floyd.
Great lyrics and arrangement.

Loved it!
J&B Thanks for the terrific comments - and all the fun we've had over the years, making music. Yours, mine, ours. Real stuff.

This is a finely crafted song. Reminds me of the BoDeans. I love those driving guitars. Very memorable song. Fabulous vocal. No need for it to be tuned. Thanks, Scott. Appreciated. I saw a couple of items about the BoDeans in the RnR Hall of Fame. Chad (Hear2Learn) played with them (drums) for a spell I think. I've never heard them - something to find and listen to now.... Thanks, Beth...

We still speak fondly of our favorite restaurant on the river (name escapes me, of course.) I was there for work. Selling computers to McDD - into flight simulators and weapons systems trainers. Left there and went to Nashville for 15 years... It's great to hear your music again. I loved the song.

floyd,
It's a smooth, upbeat rock song. And great love song! As always, I'm impressed by your vocals and instrumental playing. You said you didn't use Autotune, but am I the only one who thinks that you don't need it with your vocal ability? Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
