Hello Laurent, What else can I say than everyone else wrote before me? A very beautiful song, very sensitive lyrics, good rhythm, excellent solo and good singing. But I had a wish about how the phrase "nothing remains" is sung and I would like it to be sung ;-) The vocals go down every time on 'remain', where I would like them to go up and bring in a little more emotion there. But I know, it's a matter of taste... I enjoyed it much, Hans

Hi Ron, What a funny, but also intriguing melody. And what a nice way of singing, in 'broken' lines I would describe it. You made good use of those midi instruments. I never really liked a Tuba, or Bassoon in a song, but after your performance I might... They worked out very good. Enjoyed it much! Hans

Hi Izzy, Thanks for the insight into you. Of course I knew you wouldn't accept that challenge, but it's still a shame. And in your post I think you needed to let off some steam ( a Dutch way of saying). But I doubt your way of telling people how to improve their creativity is effective: C’est le ton qui fait la musique! (Look it up). And when your song comes out, I will listen and watch it, if there is a video included, with open mind. I always do that. So, don't be afraid of that. We can learn from each other if we want to. Bye, Hans

Hi, Chad. I think that most of the results could easily pass for well done pop music. Heck, it took me a minute to notice when it got to the end the music and started playing the next song. As to how we can use it, I'm not sure. For one thing, no output generated by an AI qualifies for a copyright. That means that anyone could strip the vocals off your song, replace them with another vocal, and there's nothing you could do about it. These programs have been trained by crawling through the internet and violating copyright, so ethically they're a mess. I think people who think these programs are "creative" fail to realize the massive amount of data that is used to train these programs. Programs like Midjourney process billions of images. Think of how many country songs these programs have been trained on in order to get flawless steel guitar licks. As a songwriting tool, they're meant to replace the musicians and composers. They do too much to be an idea generator, because in the end, all you're doing is assembling a collage of ideas that were generated by the AI. This is truly astonishing technology, but they're one-button solutions designed to replace composers, musicians, and mixers - not tools for songwriters.

Not only do I agree with this, but it’s what I do. My RealTracks and RealDrums are on their own internal SSD. I did have to omit some RealTracks I will probably never use, to fit the audiophile version onto a 2TB drive. I could always grab them from the PG Music USB drive if needed.

Same Song 11 styles (AI Assisted) HearToLearn 04/13/24 12:51 AM Forum: Off-Topic Jump to new postsJump to new posts
A few months back I was worked on my mixing skills, or lack of, to be more accurate. I wrote a song called "Mistake" that was more of a Female pop song. It was ok. Recently I decided to mess around a bit more with AI and music, as many have. Some of these are in the same genre or style, but a slightly different feel. In all, for examples, this one goes to 11. So, it's the same chorus from the same song lyrics for all 11. I decided to call it "Many Mistakes." I would be curious any thoughts. MANY Mistakes After getting some input I thought about having a discussion around how we could use this. smile I know some feel that's been discussed to death, but I feel that discussion is just beginning. We may be in trouble. shocked thanks all! I've missed ya. A lot of life going on right now. -Chad

harmonies program changes are not exporting to midi files (save especial) Jorge 04/13/24 12:39 AM Forum: Band-in-a-Box for Macintosh Jump to new postsJump to new posts
I modified my BIAB MGU files to include harmonies. When I save it to MID file, (using save special option) it writes the harmonies in different tracks (Channels) but the MIDI the patch number is not included: all harmony tracks has the same patch number. no midi program changes are included when a change of harmony occurs. If I change the harmony in a specific bar the changes in patch number does not appear. I remember this was not the case with my older version of Windows BIAB. I have the export patch number option ON. I was expecting this program changesi all, melody and harmony channels. Am I missing something? Regards

You click on the Timbres of heaven when in the TX16Wx. As I said I rarely use SF2s and when I do it is in my DAW. So I tried to load the TX into BiaB and BiaB can't find it. I am going to have to do some more research and get back to you.

Re: Assigning different VST's to different tracks rharv 04/12/24 10:21 PM Forum: RealBand Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Think of it like this Track one is using the VST for Organ If you assign the same instance of that synth then set it to Guitar, that instance of the synth is now assigned to guitar. It is possible to create another separate instance of the synth by using the Port option Jeff mentions. Unless your VST is a multitimbral synth, that is how it works. If it is a multitimbral synth and can use different sounds on different MIDI channels, then you could try assigning MIDI channels, but you didn't mention which particular VST Synth (VSTi) you are using, so it's hard to get more specific.

Ray, THANKS for the listen and suggestions! Agree with the "different flow" philosophically, but since the lyrics don't have a traditional verse/chorus/bridge structure, I didn't have a crisp opportunity on this song in my view. Thought Dusty did a great job varying the vocal flow a bit in the second half of the song through selective harmonies.

Bob, ha! Yeah, wanted to venture out from our "normal" submissions for this one. "Circus music" is an off the beaten track genre for sure. Glad you liked it!

B.D., that may be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. In selecting the SoundCloud genre from the pull down menu, I couldn't find one that fit, so I've self-assigned this one to the "circus music" genre. Knew when I posted this one that it could be confusing. The song is about a boy and girl on a date at a county fair in south Georgia, USA, circa 1978. The county fair of this song was a mix of agricultural displays, thrilling rides, clowns, games of skill (usually rigged) and side shows like sword swallowers. The "county fair" concept is sometimes called a carnival or festival in other places, and many circuses share some of the same exotic participants and happenings. The lyrics also have a bunch of double meanings that can lead to confusion. They confuse me sometimes! But I like the idea of this song producing a weird hypnotic effect, because that's EXACTLY what happens to many when experiencing the sights and sounds of the fair. Glad you liked(?) it!! Ha!

Hello Ron, you have said it very nicely here. I like that. Yes, the BB vocals, esprecially those in the middle part were a surprise for me too. I also had other bg vocals, but I said to Anne-Marie, go ahead, surprise me. And that's just what she did! And you're right. The alternative of getting older is bad, most of the time.

Hello Al, you're always visiting me with nice words. But you also have nice words about your condition too! What a nice result on that physical! I fear I can't say this for myself. I had to think a while about your critics on the video. I don't mind critics at all. That's why we have this forum. Still, I was thinking how to respond to it. Normally one could say; "well, that's your opinion, but I have another taste", but that didn't feel good. So, at first I went to that website in your link. To assign a completely different VSTi synth to a different track you would need to load the VSTi synth into a different Dxi/VSTi Synth effects group in the DirectX/VST Window, and then set the output port of the 2nd track to the port that you loaded the different VSTi into. (right click on the track and set the port)

Hi Janne, I sometimes have the same feelings as where your post started with; "after several dark and depressing songs... etc." And the you come up with something cheerful: Drinking! Sometimes I do that on my one, but only after a hard days work on making songs or reparing things in the house, coocking, or whatever reason. But at first: your songs can be dark sometimes, but never depressing. I understand you feel that way, but your songs always have a nice twist in them that give me - at least- a smile or a melancholic feeling. Second: This song is a lovely, funny song with very good use of the artificial vocals. I'm still thinking of making a duet with one or more AI vocals, but I'm still a bit scared of the amount of work that entails. So, I love your song. Maybe the percussion could use some reverb, but I'm not very sure about that. Joten: Tsemppiä! Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
