Very cool song, Brain. We often talk about the lyrics, and I might forget to mention how good the song is. It is. You are the master of those synth vocals. Excellent harmony and the song is so well developed with dynamics. That abrupt ending gets me every time. BTW, I have my dark side and you're welcome to it, but still... green is yellow without blue. hehe Did you get my PM about green? Thanks a lot, Dark-Marty

Beautiful love song, I like it a lot. Melody, lyrics, vocal performance....everything says 'love'. I am still in the process of unknotting my tongue from "With relics from a Celtic shrine", though

I like the sense of humor you guys have Good work from both of you, good lyrics, good band, good bass. Marty's vocals could be a bit louder in some places, but overall it was a very enjoyable listening experience. Wish there was an "un-see" button for the video though

Hans, great production, and yes, that bass REALLY pops! Also love your harmony vocals and whatever FX you're using on them. That's a neat sound. David makes the points I might make about the topic far more eloquently than I can, so I'll just leave it at that. I do appreciate your thoughts on corporate responsibility. That's another complicated topic. Always enjoy listening to your music, looking forward to your next!

There was an issue with Reaper not handling wma files well as it was using ffmpeg decoder but the very helpful guys over at Reaper implemented the Windows Media Foundation codec to fix this issue after I asked them and I did some testing, now Reaper plays wma direct accurately on old or new hardware. You will need the latest version from 6.57 It now plays fine on a 1.9GHz Celeron Win7 laptop with a 5400rpm HD. Thanks to the incredibly helpful guys at Reaper this shows what I have been saying about Biab/BBPlugin/RealBand playing source files direct that seemed to fall on deaf ears around here. All this would allow Biab to be used as a Live Arranger that will be a game changer, the Reaper guys saw this, I just hope the Biab guys will also now see. VIDEO: Biab-Live-Arranger-WMA.mp4Users must not read posts that I have been posting for years n years with actual examples. I have no idea why they don't just try these things out for themselves, rather than waiting for PG's confirmation and approval of the possibility. JJazzLab works as a Live Arranger using keyboard midi styles the same thing Biab could have done back in 2008. Users need to look more into these things, experiment themselves, be more supportive and encouraging, anyone can download and try n try n try Reaper for FREE to see how it instantly plays wma from/to any point in any wma file with seamless transitions. Reaper doesn't require anyone to be a brain surgeon to use it, but how many have tried it to give ideas how Biab could work ?????????

Thank you all for your warm comments. Indeed there are many stories on this subject but they are very painful because we must understand that we did not simply have to set foot on the beaches but that afterwards they had to conquer every road, every hamlet, every field. And each time men died for it. So we must not forget and honor them. Laurent

Hi Laurent. What you, Chris and David have created is a wonderful testament to heroism and a fine record of history. Here in Australia, tomorrow is April 25th. This is called ANZAC day, and it is a day that we commemorate fallen soldiers. So, sitting here right now, and watching and listening to your creation, is most appropriate. It's quite a solemn experience for me. I also notice that you are from Normandie, France. That you live where all this happened is a remarkable coincidence and, as I'm watching your video with David and Chris's song, it helps to make this episode of history even more real for me. I'm guessing that in earlier years when many of the people from Normandie who had lived through World War 2 were still alive, you would have heard many stories of D-Day, the conflict, the heroism and the terrible human toll. Thank you for posting this, and thank you to the three of your for creating such a thought-provoking audio-visual journey. --Noel

Hi, Noel. What an arrangement! This is fantastic. You really know your stuff. The intro was awesome and really captured my imagination and segued into a superb production. Thanks! I tried my best to keep the elements of the original arrangement. I mentioned before - I think the cello is making me sound better than I actually am. I loved what you did with Synth V. Until this presentation, I had not heard Oscar, now I've added him to my 'to buy' list. Heh. I heard a song someone did with Sheena, and now she's on my "To Buy" list. When I first got Oscar, I thought his voice was perhaps too soft and quiet. But the "Rock" setting brings out more power, and I was surprised - and pleased - at what an emotional performance I got. I really enjoyed the song, and I enjoyed all the images that sprang into my mind as I traveled along on your musical journey. It's always a pleasure listening to your work! You never disappoint Thanks! I appreciate your kind comments!

Hi, Mario. David, you are the master of synth voices! They sound so organic it is scary. Thanks! But... the software is doing most of the work. Outstanding work on the arrangement and backing tracks. This must have been a bear to mix. Surprisingly, no. There aren't nearly as many tracks on this as the original. And once I'd automated the faders for the guitars, 90% of the mix was done. Everything else was put in relative to the guitars and voices, and there wasn't that much to do. An outstanding piece of work. Beautiful, just beautiful. IMHO your best to date. Loved it. Thanks! But... What am I to think, when my best work to date was something I did ten years ago? Thanks for listening and commenting!

Hi, Dan. David...this is a gorgeous piece of music...your mastery of the Synth V voices is evident...the vocals are exquisite...the backing tracks are so professional sounding...but it's your composing skills and arrangement that are so, so evident here! This is marvelous! Thanks! That means a lot, coming from you! But honestly, the SynthV voices don't require nearly as much work as they used. At least, they don't if you pick a genre that fits the voice. Thanks for the kind words!

Hi, Ron. David, really beautiful song, and the arrangement and production are splendid. Really tasteful dynamic shifts but not showy, which ain't easy. Everything serves the song perfectly. Nice work with the vocalists, too. Thanks! I was a discouraged when I found that I'd lost the tracks to the original version, but the alternate tracks did a good job, and it was fun to hear the song with a slightly different "flavor". I think the cello is the unsung star of the arrangement. The guitars are pretty, but the cello really helps to glue things together. As for the dynamic shifts... thank goodness for track automation! It's my not-so-secret weapon. Always enjoy your detailed explanations. Sounds like a journey, but...you made it! Nicely done. It actually took less time than I expected. I got pretty frustrated copying over the original vocal because of ... issues, but once I got the correct chords worked out, it only took a few days to finish. It was nice not to have to sweat the lyrics for a change! Thanks for your kind comments - I appreciate them.

Hi, floyd jane. A lovely opening. Gentle, Full, like a deep breath to "get ready". To be honest... I sort of lucked into it. I had a listen to the original version, and it had a french horn on it. So I added it to the new version. Just as I was finishing up the mix, I noticed the piano was playing on the introduction. It seemed a bit busy to me, so I pulled it out, and... Ooooh, so much better. That's the thing I keep re-learning: things sound better when the non-essential stuff is taken away. The tracks under the first verse are gorgeous. They are what I think of as "cotton candy tracks" - airy, delicate, sweet. Perfect for highlighting that (very impressive) vocal. That takes thought. And talent. Thanks, but... I can't take too much credit. Panned guitars always sound awesome. And the high string trio works so nicely here - I really lucked out. All I really had to do was automate the faders, and most of the mix was done. The "falling" melody? Thanks! A very nice balance on the BIAB strings (cello & violins). I kept the cello dry and put the a plate reverb on the high strings. It did a good job making the strings sound bigger than they were. I thought I was going to have to put a reverb on the cello to make it match, but I left it dry and to my surprise, it worked. So the high strings are nice and soft, and the cello keeps the its definition. Nice (supportive) touch around 3:15... Thanks for noticing! The horn doesn't show up much, but when it does, it really does sound nice. That was something from the original arrangement I wanted to keep. Nice use of held chords on the acoustic. It's super-convenient that BiaB has an option for rendering out held chords. It's easy to cut and paste in the DAW, and sometimes it's helpful for making small changes to the strums as well. The Mix is beautiful. (As is the arrangement) Well, that made my day. Thanks!

Hi, Marty. SO good, David. Good write, and you fashioned Oscar so well. Well, Oscar did most of the work. I really enjoy the backing track --so well put together and softly dynamic. Thanks! BiaB did most of the heavy lifting. It's mostly just a matter of finding instruments that work well, and using them in the right place. Man, changing it from C down to G is a big jump. I wonder how Oscar would do up there. Maybe Natalie. Never mind. This is perfect as is. Well, I started off in C, and it was too high for most of them. Obviously, you're going to get different vocal qualities in different registers. So while Oscar could sing up there, the emotional quality wouldn't quite be the same. Thanks for stopping by and your kind words!

Hi, Hans. I enjoyed the song, from a musical standpoint, that is. IMO, It's the same message fat people have heard for years: If only you ate less and exercised more, you wouldn't be fat. But most people who diet end up gaining back the weight and more, and an exercise routine is difficult for most people to maintain. Certainly, obesity is a real issue. But from what I've heard from fat people who get told this, this particular message is rarely helpful. Still, nicely done. And yes, even the bass.

Hi, Noel. You are frighteningly good at writing positive songs. These lyrics are quintessential Noel Adams: A touch of alliteration, a "feel good" lyric: Glistening golden hair and your face is like the sun Shining bright, warming everyone You weren't thinking "time to change up the rhythmic pattern a bit" when you wrote this, were you? With relics from a Celtic shrine that bend heaven’s design Because you're probably the most analytic writer on this forum, and despite how effortless it all sounds, I know nothing is in your songs that hasn't been thoroughly thought out. But it's not just the lyrics, but it's also the way you sing - shaping each syllable. There's a quality of earnestness in your vocal that's disarming. Hayden fits in well with you - nice work. But then, it's all nice work.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
