Hi, I am running BIAB version 2016 (438). I am running windows 7. I have the "options, preferences, Allow Multiple Instances Of Band-In-a-Box to be running" UNCHECKED. However every so often it ignores the fact that I have this unchecked and when I run another song it opens up another instance of BIAB. It occurs when I do the equivalent of clicking on a BIAB file in windows explorer (the only way I run BIAB files). Is anyone else getting this?

Thanks,
John

No bug! No need to go outside of BIAB to open a song file. Just click F3 and scroll to your BB folder and open your file. Your PC will open multiple BIABs if you keep clicking your files in File Explorer

Hi Raymb1, regarding "Your PC will open multiple BIABs if you keep clicking your files in File Explorer" It actually does not open a new instance of BIAB most times (it just uses the existing one instance most times which is what I want).

I actually open my BIAB files from one of two databases 1/ Microsoft Access or 2/ a web based call in the PHP language using xampp to set up apache on the P.C.

From MS-Access
Application.FollowHyperlink "C:\Access\GuitarPracticeRecords\BIAB\" & Me.fldS_BIAB_Practice_File, , True

From PHP running apache
$MyCommand='F:/bb/bbw.exe C:/Access/GuitarPracticeRecords/BIAB/' . $InputFile;
$output = shell_exec($MyCommand);

But it is windows 7 that handles these calls so it is essentially the same as doing if from windows 7 by clicking on the BIAB file name.

What I'm getting is that when BIAB is open, you don't have to leave it to open the file in File Explorer. Stay in BIAB and press F3 to go the folders. I don't use any of the other ways you mention to open BIAB files. Working within BIAB works best for me.

I have noticed the same bug but I cannot reliably repeat it so didn't bother reporting it. I am also on Win 7.1

Thanks JohnJohnJohn. You have given me enough info to report the bug directly to support through email. I will point them at this thread. Maybe you could describe exactly how you are calling the BIAB files as I have done to help them find the bug. I will give more info below.

I use the MS-access call in win 7 and I use the php language call in win 10. The bug in win 7 I have experienced at least 100 times. The database which issues the PHP call is used to organize the songs for live jam sessions and I don't use it that much. That may be why I have not seen it yet when running under win 10.

I use MS-access calls in win 7 and I use the php language call in win 10. I have not actually noticed the bug in win 10 with the php call however I can not say for certain. The bug in win 7 I have experienced at least 100 times and maybe 200 or 300 times. The reason is my usage. I use the MS-Access program to call BIAB as part of my song repertoire practice for jazz. The database program helps me stay organized in my practice so it makes sense to call the next song directly from MS-Access (I have the knowledge so I may as well use it). The PHP call is for live jam sessions I am running. I won't get into why I am using that database rather than the MS-access database. The underlying idea is the same in that I have the songs on the database to organize the jams so it makes perfect sense to call the BIAB files up directly from the database. It may be that I have not seen this bug while using the win 10 PHP calls because I have not run that software nearly as much. I am hoping I never see it wth the PHP calls since it is going to create even larger gaps between the songs and annoy the jamming audience :-) This is why I want to report it.

I am not doing anything as elaborate as you. I just sometimes want to browse and select a BIAB song to load from outside BIAB using Windows Explorer while BIAB is already open. So here is exactly what I do...

- open BIAB
- switch to Windows Explorer
- browser through my folders to locate a BIAB song I wish to open
- in Windows Explorer I double-click on the song

Sometimes it opens the song in the existing instance of BIAB and sometimes it opens it in a new instance of BIAB even though I also have the option set to only run one instance of BIAB.

Okay thanks. I just sent the email to BIAB support including a link to this thread. If anyone else is experiencing this they may be able to use the details to fix the problem.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
