I'm running 2016 BIAB and need to insert a measure of 7/8. In the set time signatures window I only see time signatures that are /4....and no way to do a 3.5/4! How do I get a 7/8 measure? Oh, and it needs to only be one measure of 7/8, so faking it with longer measures won't work.....unless there is some way to insert a half measure of 7/4......

Thanks!
Mark

yes, I believe that this cannot be done in BiaB. But in RealBand it is possible. Do you have the Windows version?

If you don't need notation do one BiaB cell in 3/4 and the next in 4/4 and both cells will make one measure of 7/4. If the feel is wrong do the first in 4 and the second in 3.

As Notes mentioned the workaround is to use 3/4 then 4/4 (or vice versa)

I would not suggest trying the odd time styles in BiaB as they use a math formula to insert the odd time over a standard tempo time span, which makes working with them confusing to me.

As mentioned, Realband can work in true odd times and still generate, as shown below.
One of the many differences between the two programs.

A question to RB users. Does RB export those non 2/4,3/4, and 4/4 time signatures correctly? The last time that I tried it did not. It would be a game changer for me if it could.

Thanx in advance for your help.

Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

FWIW I've never had a problem.
I've sent tracks to people who used different DAWs and different versions of RB/PT (interchangeably) and never really had an issue as long as the file was opened in the other DAW using the same time signature and tempo.

In the image below I simply dragged a 7/4 drum into Reaper (having set it up to time signature and tempo to match) and everything just lines up.

Thanx. I'll have to give it another try. It has been a long time since I first tried.

Thanks! Looks like RB indeed does the trick. Now I just need to learn the ins and outs of using RB vs BiaB. I mainly just need bass and drum parts - and preferably output the drums as midi so I can use 3rd party samples to play them in my DAW. So far I've only be able to output mixed wave files with RB, not individual tracks, but I'm sure there must be a way.....

Right click the desired track you want to export.
I right click on the Track Data area.
The options are different if you right click on the track name area vs the track audio or MIDI display area (never sure what to call that area).

You can then Save track to file and select MIDI or audio as the desired format, depending on the track data/options.

FWIW, RB now sends the necessary timing information to the drum VSTi's that need it, so you may even be able to do the drums in RB .. depending on how you play those third party samples.

That feature snuck in about a year ago without much fanfare considering how much it improved the program.

Thanks! My workflow is very DAW centric and my DAW is tied to the faders on my recording console, so RB (or BiaB) is (for me) just a quick patch for when I need to demo something I can't play well...for me it makes sense to get it into my DAW as quickly as possible and move on with the production. But cool to know RB is supporting VST's and all that for the people who need it.

If you create a midi metronome track in RB then drag it into Reaper before the audio Reaper will import the tempo, time signature changes and markers. To get the chords into Reaper, export them to musicXML and use this script https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=460110#Post460110 or see REATRAK for Reaper https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=212645

In BiaB if you use one of the odd time signature styles like 5/4, only the first chord change of each bar is on the beat. A bar with 5 beats and 4 evenly spaced chord changes won't cut it.

For those of you using RealBand, can you put 5 chords in a 5/4 bar?

I generally use PG's Power Tracks Pro Audio for a DAW, but if I know the answer, I can help other RealBand users.

Thanks,
Notes

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
