Hi,

When guitar real tracks are recorded,I assume they are recorded with a mic on a amp. If this is true do they also capture a DI signal?

I also assume recordings are made in various recording studios off site.

The reason for the question is that sometimes I want to use the same VST on both my guitar tracks and the BB tracks which means I need DI recordings.

Do they exist?

Thanks,

Billy

That's a fair question. To my knowledge, we users do not know very much about how most RealTracks are recorded. Piano tracks are done on a digital piano giving the exact MIDI from the track, but I don't think we know anything about guitar tracks. I could be wrong; let's see if any of the guitarists here (who would be more likely than me to pick up this info) do know.

There is a box in the RealTracks Picker menu that can be selected if the RT was recorded including DI. It will be greyed out if no DI version is available.

There is also a column listing the RT's that have the DI feature. You can sort the RT's by DI function availability.

DI recording RT's will be flat and dry and also lower in volume.

Thanks Charlie and thanks Matt

I will go check that out.

There are some really good guitar players who work in the studio a lot who can record DI. I find that very difficult. Most studios break it out in at least two signals. One DI and the other from the amp mic on two tracks on the board.

The guitar becomes a different animal when plunged in to a 100 watt amp and turned way up. That also requires another skill set....kinda like driving a car at 170 as apposed to 70...lol

Having one note flow into the next with the sustain you get at high volume is a cool sound, well until you make a mistake...then it is a really loud mistake.lol Not something I can do here in my Town House....lol

Thanks,

Billy

Billy,

The direct input sub folders are located under X:\bb\RealTracks\Direct Input. My 2019 UltraPlus PAK shows the following instrument groups have direct input folders: acoustic bass, electric bass, acoustic guitar, baritone electric guitar, electric rhythm guitar, electric solo guitar, electric strumming guitar, background resonator guitar, background slide guitar, harmonica solo, pedal steel background, pedal steel rhythm, pedal steel solo, electric piano rhythm and electric piano solo. Windows explorer counts 676 sub folders but some of those are for holds.

The number of files in the Direct Input folders has grown substantially since I last looked. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Jim,

I was hoping to find a good one bar intro for a rock/metal song I am working on. So far without luck. I did not want to spend any more time looking unless there was a DI track.

I will go sort the DI tracks.

Thanks again,

Billy

Sorry guys

I can not find the DI info. I have 2019 Audiophile. There is no path X:\bb\RealTracks\Direct Input.

For me the drive letter is f:\bb\RealTracks. There is no Direct Input. That path takes me directly to the RealTracks.

Also I don't see this info in style picker.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Billy

Hi Billy,

If you open the RealTracks Picker and sort the list by the "Direct Input Available" column, do you find some RealTracks with a "Y" in that column?

Thanks
Kent

Billy, it looks like somehow you don't have the 533 folders in X/BB/RealTracks/Direct Input that I have. But what's the answer to Kent's question?

I don't see a "Direct Input Available" column.

There are 13 columns. Name, Type, R in this case,Tsig,EvSw,Tempo, Long Name,Genre,Group,Date, Set#,#inst,#substyles,Other Genres.

Also Kent, I have Team Viewer if that is less of a issue for you to deal with.

Hi Billy,

It sounds like you're looking in the StylePicker, not the RealTracks Picker. You'll want to hit the RealTracks button, in the Tracks section of the toolbar, not the Style button.

Thanks
Kent

OK Kent thanks I found the DI column. Yes there are some DI tracks.

I also look at some solo tracks. I may be able to find some stuff to use.

I had to laugh looking at some of Brent's rock solos...you can take Brent Mason out of the country but you can't take the country out of Brent...lol I love that guy!!

Thanks,

Billy

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
