I've started experimenting with chords a lot today. Only in VST version.
I found a problem. If the input chord is short, the input music changes very little.
If it is increased to a certain length, the later concert will change, even if the same chord is repeated all the time. This is a good thing. You can make music faster. But it also makes me confused, because I always need to keep writing as long as possible, and then find out my favorite change paragraph.
My question is, in general, how long chords do you enter. What length is the most appropriate.
In fact, I like the feeling of continuous progress for a long time.
In addition, there are blue, green, a and B on those chords. I don't understand what they mean. I haven't found relevant video teaching. I don't know which friend has time to talk to me.
Thank you very much for helping me

The blue and green boxes are part markers. Typically an "a" part marker is more sedate, or has less energy, than a "b" part maker. You might use an "a" part marker at the beginning of a verse and a "b" part marker during a solo.

You can use part markers wherever you want. Some users place a part marker at every bar.

Part markers tell the drums when it is time for a fill. There is a setting where you can select whether the drums do, or do not, perform a cymbal crash as part of the fill.

There are other part markers beside "a" and "b". A multistyle combines the elements of two or more styles together. For example assume you have two styles called style 1 and style 2. The part markers for style 1 will be "a" and "b" while the part markers for style 2 will be "c" (style 2 "a" part marker) and "d" (style 2 "b" part marker). You can continue adding styles all the way up to "y" and "z" part markers.

RealTracks are a collection of musical phrases or riffs. RealTracks have phrases of 8 bars, 4 bars, 2 bars and 1 bar. If you have 8 bars in the chord of "X" you may hear any combination of phrases built around "X". Band-in-a-Box can extract smaller phrases from inside a larger phrase. The longer you make your chord breaks, the more content Band-in-a-Box has to select from.

Just a thought. You are new to Band-in-a-Box and are starting with the plugin. Nothing wrong with what your doing. In fact I'm pretty sure one of the reasons PG Music is developing the plugin is to attract a new audience that, without the plugin, otherwise would not try Band-in-a-Box.

However, that also means you are not familiar with the basics of Band-in-a-Box and how it works. I believe many future plugin users will benefit from reading your questions. Keep 'em comin'!

All excellent advice above.

There is a video available on an introduction to Part Markers, which may assist:

Hi,

Harmonic rhythm is an important factor in the creation of music. It's also one of the lesser understood principles. The below web page and YouTube clip explain it in a little more detail.

Hope this helps,

thank you.
In other words, if I choose a style, is there only a and B? I can't come out C, D unless I choose another style
I can't find the link to the video of composing music with VST.

If yes, if you are not busy, please let me know if you can find it.

I read the links sent by the two teachers above and benefited a lot

Why is there only a and B on VST, but not C and D

In addition, I don't know the role of choruses, bar setting and song setting on this VST.
I also didn't find the relevant detailed introduction and video introduction

The plugin does not have as many videos available as the Band-in-a-Box program does. Partially that is because Band-in-a-Box is a mature product while the plugin is a recent product.

The plugin is included as an add-on in all Band-in-a-Box retail packages. The plugin is not intended to replace the Band-in-a-Box program but instead to bring SOME Band-in-a-Box features to a DAW. One name suggested when the plugin was first released was Band-in-a-Box Light or BiaB Lite.

Styles with more than two kinds of part markers ("a", "b", "c" and "d") are called MultiStyles. I believe you are the first user to comment that the Plugin does not support the use of MultiStyles.

I've taken the liberty of creating a wishlist thread +++ HERE +++ if you want to support the idea of the plugin using MultiStyles with a +1.

I'm a little confused about two things:
1: The change of rhythm and melody confused me. I want to know how many squares are written in the VST plug-in. Will complete the changes of drum rhythm and guitar and other instruments in style.
2: The 8th and 16th confused me. I know that ev stands for stability and SW stands for stability. I also know that 8th stands for an eighth note. But I don't know how many squares the 8th and 16th represent the lower chords

Both the Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) Plugin (what you call VST) and the BiaB program have a maximum limit of 255 bars (what you call squares).

Each bar is roughly equal to a whole note.

Each bar contains two cells so each cell is roughly equal to a half note. The highlight covers one cell.

Each cell contains two notes so each note is roughly equal to a quarter note. So one bar equals
two cells and four notes.

When writing about bars it is common to show a bar as "|" without the quotes. So a bar with four chords can be written as |a,b c,d|

Each note contains a chord. If a chord position is empty it is assumed the preceding chord is still playing. So a bar can have up four chords split into two cells of two chords. Notice the "a" space is empty and there is a space between b & c | ,b c,d|

Chords inside a cell are separated by a comma. If the first or third chord position is empty then place a comma before chords b & c | ,b ,d|

Ev equals Even feel and Sw equals Swing feel (also called shuffle). The easiest way for me to tell the difference is to listen to the drums and count the beats. The drummer will hit the high hat or cymbal right on the beat for Even feel (count as 1,2,3,4) while Swing feel the count is between the beats (count as 1 e and ah 2 e and ah, 3 e and ah 4 e and ah)

Jim Fogle:

Just use a and B in VST. Because C, D and even more can be generated by selecting realtrack through extra and riff, right?
In addition, for example, I wrote five a's

So the five a's are different. I can cut and splice them myself in Daw.
Similarly, if I input three B, the generation is different, right?
I also noticed that there is a space and there is nothing. This belongs to a?

From the 2021 manual, page 71:

Part Markers
Part Markers are placed on the Chord Sheet to indicate a new part of the song, to insert a substyle
change, or to insert drum fills.
They typically occur every 8 bars or so but may be placed at the beginning of any bar.

Also, check out page 136 which also has some information.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
